You have three different sides of fighting the legion here, a clarification for ya: Gul'dan- Serves the legion and accepts their power. Bad Guy. Khadgar- Fights them and refuses their power. Good Guy. Illidan- Fights the legion using their power against them. Good Guy using bad guys power.

And yeah, noone is born bad, but as an example; a man who hits his wife because he was abused as a child has >become< bad, his trauma doesnt matter at the point that he makes his own victims. To kinda understand the storyline of Legion, you should watch the following in this order: 1. "World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Cinematic" (about Guldan and the Orcs - how they fight the legion) 2. "World of Warcraft: Legion Cinematic Trailer" (How Horde and Alliance fight the Legion when they started attacking Azeroth (homeworld of the players)) 3. "Sylvanas Windrunner - Warchief of the Horde [Cinematic]" (how Silvanas became Warchief of the Horde after the Legions first assault (after the cinematic above)) 4. "Antorus Ending Cinematic [Illidan's Final Sacrifice] - WoW Legion 7.3.2" (Ending of the Legion, how the head of the Legion (Sargeras) was killed) This then led into the Battle for Azeroth conflict (between Horde (orcs/trolls/undead) and Alliance (Humans,Elfs/etc)) as you already saw in some cinematics. Appreciate your videos, would be amazing to see you react to these!
Sargeras was never killed, he was imprisioned by his fellow titans and Illidan is now his warden. When Sargeras was pulled away from azeroth he stabbed the world with his 2 thousand miles sword, that wounded Azeroth's world-soul, the solidified arcane blood of the world is what gave the trigger to the following war.
I would say they should start from the 1. world of warcraft cinematic and not with the last addon^^ but both are really good at grasping the message of all cinematics.
Agreed! Karazan was/Is/and forever will be one of my most favorite raids. Black temple, steam vaults, even the sunwell were all good instances, but karazan will forever hold a special place in my heart.
My favorite single cinematic! That's when I knew illidan probably wasn't going to be sticking around... Too OP haha. One shots a Naru then catches the sword of one of the most powerful paladins like its nothing..
It's interesting to see some of the comon themes here : 1) Gul'dan is denied power he crave for, and take it to do evil. 2) Khadgar seek more power for a good cause, but refuse the weight it has for good. 3) Illidan take power of evil for a good cause. Each is defined by it's relation to power, and how they choose to wield it.
illidan is probably 1 of the best characters in WoW's lore, if u want a better insight into his character u can watch "rejection of the gift" , its a ingame cinematic but still very good quality
Giul’Dan is the only one who’s evil, he served the legion. Illidan was just a Nigth elf, and by absorbing the skull of gul’dan he became a Demon hunter
Just saying, if you wanna see more of this kinda style of WoW cinematics. They made one for a particular expansion. The video is called Lords of War. It’s about 30 minutes long because it has 5 parts but it’s as close to a “movie” due to the time.
there is one movie (a full real movie, theaters, dvd, etc) "Warcraft" 2016 that movie is about many of of these particular characters seen in the first 2 videos you watched here has some well known actors/actress. the movie takes place in a time between the 1st and 2nd video seen here. its a pretty good movie.
What you have to understand about the story of Gul'Dan is that all mystic orcs were Shamans until Gul'Dan's exile where he changed his allegiance from the Elements like all other Shaman before to the power of Fel Magic making Gul'Dan the first warlock.
the first time the legion invaded azeroth was 10k years ago. back then illidan was a gifted night elf mage. he decided that the only way to beat the demons was to use their own power against them. so he goes to the big boss demon and tells him that he wants to join. big boss demon shows illidan a vision of all the worlds the burning legion has conquered and gives him demonic power, in the process of this his eyes get burned out and gains the ability to see any magical source around him. so armed with the demon power coursing through him he then does a double cross and uses the demon power to fight the demons. thus he became the first of the demon hunters.
Another great video! It was so lit, I'm glad you guys were able to see this. I loved these trailers too myself but personally my favorite was Khadgar because his story presents vigilance and resistance to temptation, personal desire and peer pressure. I love all of your videos (and not just the Warcraft ones, I've been checking out each one in your channel) and you guys deserve even more subs. I hope you guys get to see the Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor and Warcraft: Legion cinematics (where you'll see the father of King Anduin (the young King from Battle for Azeroth) and a different side of Sylvanas that might change your perspective of her). You are prepared is a reffrence to the cinematic for "the burning crusade" were Illidan was a "villian" misunderstood more like but the players faught him anyway. And the ending line of that cinematic was him telling us "You are not prepared" now they use that line all the time so its abit overplayed.
Illidan was the extremist. He would do literally anything, to defeat the ultimate enemy of all (The Legion). Even if that meant making his family hate him, being labeled the Betrayer, and going against everything he was ever taught (he's 10,000 years old). But in the end, he had the right intentions. He fought evil with evil.

If you want, there is a movie that came out in 2016 that you could watch, just called Warcraft. Despite it's lackluster reception by the general public (imo due to the videogame to movie stigma), it depicts Khadgar beginning and his story with Medivh (his former teacher) and where Gul'dan fits into all of this and his relationship with the rest of the orcs and hte Burning Legion. It is a good introduction into this world, nad it should fill in some holes left in between all this cinematics.
Still think you should check out the modern ingame rendered cinematics from Legion and Battle for Azeroth! And the two cinematics from Warcraft 3 regarding Arthas and the Lich King, their cgi still holds up today. And finally, Warlords of Draenor cinematic and Lords of War videos. (The latter being the same style as Harbringers and Warbringers)
the reason why Illidan (the guy with the wings) said "YOU ARE PREPARED!" is because he originally was a boss we had to defeat and the thing he always said was "You are NOT prepared!"
Gul'dan (Gool-Dan) is the Harbinger of the legion. Basically, he is the legion in physical form. The legion are demons. (Little node to the bible there. "We are legion. We are many.") Khadgar (Kad-Gar) was a skilled mage studying under the leadership of the Kirin Tor (Arch Mage union) with the Guardian of Azeroth (Med-eve) as his mentor. Mediv was currupted by Fel Magic (The legion) and they ate at his thoughts until he unknowingly opened the dark portal which let the demons into our world. (Which is why the blasted lands to this day is a burnt scar of the jungle it once was.) Illidan (Ill-A-Dan) was the bad guy in the burning crusade expansion. He served the Legion long enough to overthrow their stronghold in outland known as the black temple. We, at the time had no way of knowing what his true plan was, and so we set out to kill him and reclaim the black temple for ourselves in an attempt to bring victory to our people... Only to find out Illidan was one of the good guys all along. You should really watch the black temple trailer. I'd def give you 2 likes for that one
If the elements didn't run away in fear from the Fel and the one whispering Gul'dan... he could've became a powerful shaman instead of a powerful key player in the Burning Legion.

Gul'dan would have been a Shaman had he not tried to force the elements to give him purpose. Despite being spirits of primal power,the elements are rather dainty when it comes to who uses their power. A GOOD shaman calls upon them and asks for their aid. They'll say "Element of water,come to my aid,lend me your strength". When Gul'dan reached out and forcibly touched them,they felt his soul and feelings and most likely saw darkness in his heart. Now,there are DARK Shamans who control the elements and use their power forcibly and not respect them. But yea.had he just let the elements come to him,he would have been chosen to wield their power.

Illidan is the most mistreated, misunderstood character of Warcraft. And besides all the heroes in this world, he is the one who is a true hero, despite all rejection and hate he gets.

Gul'Dan was using Fel magic, which trades literal life forces for power. It's the power demons use. He became the legion's emmissary. Gul'Dan was chosen by Kil'Jaden to do this as he was evil to his core anyway, but his dissibility prevented him froma cting out. Gul'Dan formed Blackhands' Horde, and ran it from the shadows. Khadgar is actually pretty young, he was aged artificially through magic and he's the 'defacto' gaurdian of Axeroth, following in the footsteps of Medheiv. Medhiev was the last gaurdian, he was born tainted as his mother Aegwynn battled, defeated and was corrupted by Sargeras (The mad Titan). Medheiv was the Human who helped Gul'Dan open the Dark Portal so the first war could happen, where Orcs invaded Azeroth. Medheiv is not to be trusted, even when he's right. In this video, it was Medheiv, it was a Dreadlord, the original demons of warcraft, they are why Sargeras went mad, and started the burning crusade. Illidan Stormrage, the twin brother of Malfurion Stormrage. Both were born with golden eyes and male, both signifiers of a great destiny in the night elf culture, as both are very rare, and having both is even rarer. Malfurion was a gifted druid, taught by demi-gods and have the love of Tyrande Whisperwind, all things Illidan coveted, but could never have. He wasn't a good druid, he wasn't loved by Tyrande, so he turned to Arcane magics, then fighting the legion in their first battle with Azeroth he siphoned other elve's magics to make himself stronger. He was then imprisoned for 10,000 years. Upon his release he was considered mad, and power hungry. He became a Demon Hunter in which you battle a demon for you're very soul, and if you win, you absorb it, hence his appearance. Demon Hunters use a demons own power to hunter and eridicate demons. Illidan was always right, he gives up anything to ensure victory. For a good idea of Illidans chracter, watch 'Rejection of the gift'.
The demon hunters are blindfold because they burn out their eyes with demonic fire. This leaves them blind but able to sense and see the hidden demons.

If you two want to know more about some of the World of Warcraft characters you’ve seen. You should watch all the Warcraft 3 cinematic. While they are old and don’t look as good as the newer ones. It might answer some of the questions you have on a character or 2. The Warcraft universe has been around for 25 years, and you started at the end, working backwards
I doubt Gul'dan was outcast just because he was a cripple. I'm sure *he* thinks that, but there was always a darkness in him. That's why even the elements recoiled from his touch.

All Demon Hunters have power in their eyes. First they undergo brutal and intense training to learn to wield warglaives and become extremely agile warriors. Many don't make the cut and some of them die during training, it was deemed that only elven physiques were robust enough to survive the training (there have been exceptions). Part of the ritual to become a Demon Hunter is to slay a powerful demon and literally eat its heart, so that the demon's essence corrupts your very being. This is the process where most candidates die. They have these glowing tattoos over their bodies that work like magical seals that keep the demon imprisoned within them, making the demon dependent on the survival of the host in order to exist. The Demon Hunter can tap into the demon's energies to perform enhanced physical feats and protect against magic. Next they ritually blind themselves by poking out their eyes so they gain the signature Spectral Sight which allows them to see everything even through walls but especially demons are easy to track. Azeroth has a certain disdain for Demon Hunters, they make people nervous because they are very powerful beings enhanced by demonic energies. But despite the corruption of their flesh, they are still very much the same person as they were before the ritual that changed them. To some people they are heroes who sacrificed everything they are to destroy the Burning Legion and their demonic host. But unfortunately to most they are misunderstood as colluders with dark powers, which ironically isn't entirely inaccurate. Despite the mistreatment they receive from the other races that stand against the Burning Legion, they are unwaveringly committed to their cause. Illidan has instilled a certain type of cult-mentality among the Illidari Demon Hunters, I think this was necessary to keep all that concentrated demonic power in check. A Demon Hunter that goes rogue is a threat to everything. Like Varedis Felsoul who used to be one of the combat instructors of the Demon Hunter initiates. When he fell in battle, his soul was tortured by the Demon King and was ultimately made to believe that the Illidari betrayed the cause he fought and died for. So he turned against all he stood for and joined the Burning Legion, being a pain in the ass until the player Demon Hunter killed him and took his legendary warglaives.
Spoilers ahead: Gul'dan serves the Legion. He later feeds "fel" (demonic energy) blood to the orcs. Then they invade Azeroth (they were from another world) eventually the orcs cut ties with him and they make the horde. Gul'dan is the most powerful warlock to ever exist. He was killed after many efforts.. only problem is that another version of him from another timeline comes to our world/timeline. So we have a similar situation again, only this time, this Gul'dan knew the mistakes of his alternate self so he was almost able to "resurrect" Sargeras (mad titan, leader of the burning legion, basically satan) but then we stop him together with Illidan and Khadgar. As for Illidan, he plays a big role in the warcraft universe. Back in "The Burning Crusade" expansion, he was the main villian but actually we the "heroes" were the villian and we did not realize it. We thought illidan was in league with the legion and we invaded his temple, finally imprisoning him after we almost kill him. The alternate Gul'dan steals Illidan, who was in stasis, and almost had Sargeras possess him. We manage to stop it with the help of Khadgar and some titan artifact, and Illidan himself kills Gul'dan.
Illidan used to be a night elf lusting for power, now it is hard to say if he is more demon or an elf, but his intentions are at the moment righteous, all he seeks is destruction of the burning legion. His followers are demon hunters, their training consist of things like letting a demon posses you and conquering him inside you, gouging your eyes so you can "see" corruption and demonic energies better etc. Illidan is definitely the most badass character in WoW lore. The green power that Gul'dan wields is called Fel, easiest way to explain it is - evil. The major difference between that and power of the elements is that shamans have to ask elements to give them their power but if the elements don't find you worthy and good in heart they won't communicate with you. That's why most orcs lost their connection to elements when they fell to demonic corruption.
Starting from the "end" and rewind everything is still not the good way to have the references and understand the importance of the characters you see ;p I you plan to watch all the cinematics, start from the first ones
Gul'dans story is especially sad cause many theorize that it was the demons who deceived him either as the elements or they scared off the elements cause they also saw his potential. This is based on the fact that the one speaking to him Sargeras has an underling called "The Deceiver" .
I se you guys are getting some of the races mixed up.... Gul'dan is a orc and not a ogre. Gul'dan was octicized for being weak and useless in his clan (orcs kill or exile their weak). The orc homeworld Dreanor is seriously unforgiving and weak people can drag a clan down or lead to their deaths. The elements seen the evil in Gul'dan's heart and rejected him but the Burning legion noticed the horrific hate in him and gave him the power of fel energy (demonic powers) and used him to bring the orcs over to the burning legion. Don't feel bad for Gul'dan because he was evil before he ever was cast out of his clan. Khadgar's master was possessed by a evil titan named Srgeras (Super satan figure who cleaves planets in half) and Khadgar and had to put him down and before Medvih died he cursed Khadgar aging to a old man. Illidan Stormrage is the twin brother of Mafurion Stormrage (the first druid and possibly one the most power being on the planet), Illidan was shunned and used his own methods to fight the buring legion by allowing himself to feign allegience to the burning legion to gain the power he needed to fight them, his methods was frowned upon because he often sacrificed his allies to win and at some point we (us adventurers) came and defeated him and locked him up.

Illidan and Arthas are basically the kind of people who'll kill the child to save the people. Most of the other characters will try to save both (and generally fail of course). People like Sylvanas and Gul'Dan and stuff kill both the child and the people lol. Illidan is a very interesting character, like Arthas, because he also sacrifices himself basically to save his people. And like Arthas he does also sacrifice his people lol, but it's only a few to save the many you know? And it's like in that scenario where they're already dead, like the would you shoot down a hijacked plane if it was supposed to crash into something and kill a whole lot more people. Of course you would, because no matter what the people on the plane are dead, all you can do is save the others. Weirdly enough some people seem to think this is evil... *shrug* Even weirder is that some of these people are Sylvanas fanboys.
You guys should really watch the Burdens of Shaohao. While I would enjoy watching you guys react to it, it's really just a beautiful work of art that everyone should watch - Warcraft player or not.

I really really really want them to watch Nobbel's videos. If you really want to understand Sylvannas watching her whole story is going to help. I hate how they did her in BFA but we don't know what will happen and we know that Sylvannas is a Chess player and not a Checkers player.

If you really want to understand world of warcraft there is a youtuber called nobbel87 that makes videos explaining every character. It would have to be a real long video or multiple parts per video though since some videos are 4hours long lol
