Nice video, I use mine pretty much all the time, as well as all the gnarly sounds it's also my goto for those lovely, huge, cinematic drones. Nothing else in my rack can do what Elmyra 2 does. Oh yeah, drench it in reverb...it's the law.
Absolutely marvellous little synth (and Neutral Labs are super nice and helpful). Every time I sit with it I discover something sonically new. It’s so deep. Just bought another one!
You can't get this kind of melodic control with the Lyra. This ticks the boxes the Lyra can't. I've a Solar 42 on pre order but I really love this. Nice work Mr Carr
This sounds really great! In that jam in the 18:21 is that all coming from this unit at one time with no extra effects except the reverb? And you have just one of the tracks going to the reverb? I’m a modular newb so not sure how this works!
at 18:21 the chords are from the Elmyra as are some of the little glitchy noises - samples of noise and distorted stuff added later in the mix. The drums are samples. ie. the 'live' part is the chords and all the changes to that sound - LFOs, filters etc.
It is a bit weird tbh. It was a hard one to mix as the different demos have completely different perceived volumes. I thought the vocal was far too loud when making the final edit, especially compared to the tracks near the end, so pulled it down a few dB .. unfortunately that's affected the start, where the track is much louder (although lower on the levels and pulled down in the mix). If reducing everything down to blend with the ambient track the whole thing sounded quiet.. but the kick on the track was hitting the limiter. Haven't got the time to go back and remake the track with another kick, remix etc. so have to go with it in the end as long as it's audible.
Is it though? Yes, both can be played using metal touchpads, but if you look at how the sounds are created and the philosophy behind both instruments, that's pretty much where the similarities end. So it's a little bit like calling a Minilogue a copy of a Sub37, just because both have 37 piano keys. 😉
@@nyppy I was going to email but - I just got one in the mail off Reverb and have most of it figured out, but it seems like any amount of turning up the mix for the delay makes it as distorted as the ouch controls, even with the choke and bite all the way down. Let me know if that sounds odd and I can maybe get a video to see if there's an issue.
@@Eli_B3000 Yeah, sure, send an email with a video and I'll be able to tell whether it's normal. Also let me know if this was originally bought as an assembled one or a DIY kit.
@@nyppy Ok, I figured it out. I had the choke just above counter instead of clockwise and it was making the delay noisy. All sorted! Let me know if you have a forum anywhere for feature requests, suggestions, etc.
