The Old Hokkoku Highway is a highway that connects present-day Torii in Shiga Prefecture to Oiwake in Nagano Prefecture. In the Edo period, it was developed as a "side road" on the old Nakasendo road connecting Kyoto and Edo, and was also used as a road for changing attendance during the Kaga domain period.
Nonoichi City flourished as the first post town to move upward from Kanazawa Castle. From Oshino 5-chome to Honmachi 4-chome, Inari 2-3-chome, Mikkaichi-cho, Tokuyo-cho, and Gomachi on Honmachi Street, you can check the route of the Hokkoku Highway.

In the area around the former Hokkoku Highway in the Honmachi district, the houses of old townhouses, including the Kita Family Residence, which is a nationally designated important cultural property, continue to this day, and it is an area of high historical and cultural value.
