A local news station reached out about a recent rescue and TNR project where 20+ cats were fighting to survive in a Brooklyn apartment building basement.
We asked them to come film the new clinic you helped build instead (Flatbush Veterinary Clinic). Then I asked the reporter to contact the city and get their commitment, on record, that it’s time for the city to step up and fund increased access to care for all New Yorkers. Because that is how we'll prevent cats from fighting to survive in such challenging conditions.

Thank you to Pix 11 for covering this important story: pix11.com/news/local-news/bro...
And don't worry, we have lots more rescue stories coming up later this year! Lots and lots. It's just been very busy. Thanks for your support!

THANK YOU Councilman Justin Brannan for recognizing the need to fund the kind of model that Flatbush Cats has developed. I hope you can bring your colleagues on board for this important public service.
@mikesexton8902
Dude spay and neuter shouldn’t cost 2000 that’s just crazy. Love you Flatbush
@spaghettisaucer8870
Nice to see the councilman take your work
@TheMountainbobcat
$2000 dollars for basic spay and neuter, thats nuts! Im up state and the last time i took a cat to the vet it only cost me $100, like seven years ago. Dr. Pol of Michigan vet service i dont think would charge this crazy amount of money? Its terrible how animal and human health is being held hostage by money grubbing entities.
@forcemarine
Please consider donating. Their group does fantastic work and they send updates to their donors regularly. I live on the opposite side of the country but I love to see furry friends receive the help they need no matter how far away!
@bklyn_line
Fair play to Flatbush Vets!!! Thank you Flatbush Cats 🤙🏽

$2000 for spay/ neuter? That's just crazy. Now I finally understand why it is such a big issue in Brooklyn. I didn't understand before as I live in Scotland were the costs are between £50 - £150. Which is affordable for most people. Good job Flatbush Vets for making it accessible in your area.

I have a niece who is a vet. Lower the cost of education, you will lower veterinary care. Four years of college and 3 years of vet school and she graduated with over 200k in student loans. She pays over her minimum amount each month, but she will have this debt for 10-15 years. If she wants to open her own clinic during that time, she will have to factor that debt in to the cost of running the clinic.

The city’s actions are long overdue! Basic services such as spay and neuter in a $2000 bracket is absurd! Where’s the ASPCA in all of this! Thankful for these organizations that are doing their utmost best with these situations. Other states have TNR programs, why can’t NYC have more of this!
@tiportangeles2696
2K for a spay neuter????? Outrageous. Our local humane society offers $30 spay/neuter 3X a year!
@ninja1antelope
Yes, yes, yes. Needs to be scaled up like in most civilized countries. Get rid of puppy mills- make vet care affordable.
@Everyyoueverymiau
Up to 2000$ for spay/neuter?! That’s insane
@christiancolossus5165
One of the few non-profits in NY that is ACTUALLY making a difference. Love you guys!
@dao8805
THANK YOU, Willz Weigart, founder of Flatbush Cats. You are a hero to cats and people who love them. Eight years of hard work and incredible progress. It is wonderful that at least one councilman is seeing the need to to fund this important work; I hope he succeeds in getting the rest of the city officials on board.
@rorylong314
One of my cats spay was €195 but that included extra bloods to test her reaction to the anaesthetic and a microchip too. I’m in Ireland, not exactly a cheap country to rent/live. $2K is insane!
@lucyochocki9948
Great coverage. It is so important to spread the word.
@ginmar8134
Heroes!
@JadeLiz74
