Indeed. They we're just picked up along the way. They aren't really actors and most of the in the van stuff is not scripted. It felt really genuine to me, a bunch of kids in a road trip, doing all wacky stuff.

I'm from ohio and back in 2005 right after high school a friend of mine went to Kansas to sell magazines just like this but he only made it a few weeks and gave up. This movie just reminds me of being young and wild. I miss those days. You don't really cherish being young until you're not young anymore. Today happens to be my birthday. Birthdays are just bittersweet anymore.

I've never seen this movie before but when I saw the commercial back in 2016 and this clip right now, I get the vibes of those early late 90's- early 2000's indie films like Kids, The Doom Generation, Bully, Gummo and Trans which really captured the feeling of helplessness and frustration at all the messed up things in the world when you're young and all the other things that I don't even know how to put into words, the world need more movies like that now more than ever to help people understand each other like those movies helped me back then

Beautiful film..and yes I completely get that they were all misguided lost souls, that found a family, as dysfunctional as it was, within this group, but that is what made it even more sad. They were literally working, walking, all day, everyday...and for what!? All their money made just went to gas and their next hotel room costs. Also kind of ironic that most of the cast were actual street kids...and the chic that played Crystal, their boss, is Elvis Presley's granddaughter

@@kinghulkk5143 I do agree, one of the biggest flaws of this movie is the cast is made up of all white people minus the main character. But, nonetheless, it's a bunch of young people doing drugs and having sex which is undoubtedly a representation of American youth. In the beginning, you see Star digging in trash to feed her and her little half siblings. It shows them in terrible abusive living conditions, which is why she joins the mag crew which takes her away from that life. This comes full circle at the end when she comes across another poor family. Thus why poverty is a major subject, if not THE main subject of the film.

I am an old man. 74. I watched it last night. There were a couple things I didn't like. Thievery. And when she said bad things about God. Then she went and spent her own money to buy some food for that family. That was good. The cowboys were not going to harm her. Maybe ask her to go in the pool with bra and panties. Big deal. There are worse things. But it was a good movie and gave me a different perspective on kids. Not everyone has it easy. But we all have dreams.
