The Nordhavn 55 is one of the most popular trawlers ever conceived - an ideal cruising trawler that can be handled by a couple and capable of traveling to virtually unlimited destinations worldwide. Terrapin has a legacy of being one of the most active 55’s. She started her cruising career in the Pacific Northwest, then took off south, through the Panama Canal and over to the US eastern seaboard. Her green painted hull is distinctive and instantly recognizable, turning heads in every port she enters.
Terrapin has the classic Nordhavn 55 layout with three heads and three staterooms; owner, guest and captain’s. The owner’s stateroom is conveniently positioned directly forward of the galley. The guest stateroom / office has the clever hinged bulkhead to convert to a large suite. Her entry level features a spacious saloon and galley with large windows outboard. The raised pilothouse includes the captain’s cabin and head aft and affords a commanding view forward and on the sides. The outside decks are protected and one of her best features is the flybridge atop the pilothouse.

What’s not to love! Comfortable and roomy accommodations, home sufficient galley, pilot house with head and captains bunk room along with full electronics display, stabilizer, water maker, laundry, chest freezer,world class engines and a huge range. Not to mention Nordhavn’s legendary seakeeping abilities. Thanks Jeff for a thorough walk through of this amazing vessel. She won’t last long on the shelf.

Wow! That’s a beautiful 55. I really like the white laminate. Looks like the owners have done a bunch of updates lately. The charcoal ceiling panels in the pilot house look pretty new. And I like the crane storage setup on the boat deck.

Christopher: Thank you for your nice comment. The white laminate really grows on you, it is uncommon on a Nordhavn because the yards do such a great job with the wood, but it's a cool alternative. More active Nordhavns have been getting the darker overhead panels in the pilothouse during the last few years - stylish and practical. John Hoffman, JMYS co-listing broker, came up with crane mount idea years ago - credit where credit is due!

The best Nordhavn IMO. Small enough for a couple yet large enough to handle long distance blue water cruising! Nordhavn, Krogen, Selene or DeFever are my choices for a boat. We love our 42 Krogen! You are by far the best and most thorough broker I've ever seen!

For me at 72 yrs. Old. I’d buy the boat, keep it for two yrs. Hop scotch across the pacific. Definitely Tasmania. New Zealand and slowly work my way to the West Coast of South America. Patagonia of course. Then back towards the Western United States and sell the boat. I got it out of my system. Get out from underneath it. Sell it, and especially fulfill a boyhood dream. Because at the end about all we have left our memories

Nice boat and walk through, thank you, Not a fan of an athwart ships master but I do like the head off the wheelhouse. The white laminate makes the interior look cheap though. Would definitely have to factor in the price of getting the hull repainted. Don't know why anyone would think that was a good idea.

Joseph: Thank you for watching. All of the 55's have the athwartships owner bed. White laminate was special request from original buyer and a lot of people have complimented that choice. The was painted green and the shade exactly matched what they wanted - if you purchase her you can paint her any color you wish!

What horse power is the main engine? What the max revs? Thanks

1983: Good question we try to go into the details are on our website, JMYS.com along with photos. The engine is a John Deere 6081AFM75| 330 HP. You could go online to learn the fuel consumption at various RPMs. I recall it is a 2,400 RPM at WOT, but I didn't look it up. Most owners run at about 1,800 RPM for fuel economy

Larry: The Nordhavn 55 is no longer offered as a new build. The closest would be the Nordhavn 60 or Nordhavn 625. I'd be surprised if you could order either of these new for under $2.5 million. Another way of showing what a great deal Terrapin is!

No but you could put a big wrap around couch in there would make it bigger but you lose the bar stools. Also the white trim is absolutely hideous for such a nice boat

Wow! -- QUESTION -- Why are there so so many Nordhavns for sale now? Seems like literally every single one of them is listed for sale. Not sure what's going on but the market must be crashing or something as no one, and I mean no one, wants to keep these things today. Total Price Collapse. Be careful guys - you might be stuck with a milllion dollar loss as fuel prices are about to triple, countries are taxing the crap out of them (25 percent tax on all China made trawlers sold inside the US), every State, city and marine yard will take huge from you and punish you daily. Who needs that hassle?

Coleen: I'll answer your QUESTION, with a question: How many Nordhavns (out of 600+ built) do you see for sale? With reference to Terrapin, there were over (50) Nordhavn 55's built. How many are for sale now? 2? 3? Certainly not dozens of them. Historically (this predated 2020, 10% of a given model was on the brokerage market, that is what we expect, a small percentage and contrary to your statement that "literally every single one of them is listed for sale". Prices are holding strong across the trawler market - all brands. You may be right that fuel prices will go up. You are incorrect with your vague statement that there is a "25 percent tax on all China made trawlers sold inside the US". That is completely misconstrued. Terrapin is US duty paid with CBP-7501 entry summary documented. I'm trying to help you out here, you do not have accurate information. No "25 percent tax due, no tariff due, the duty was paid years ago. You are intitled to your opinion, however, this may not be the best place to share it. @@JeffMerrillYachts ..maybe.. but I remember a few years ago and there was basically nothing for sale. You would be lucky to see even one for sale online. Now there are pages and pages of listings. Seems like thay are all for sale. In terms of the tax, there is now a tax on all Chinese made trawlers coming into the US and has been for a few years. If this one has paid the 25 percent tax already is not something I can confirm. But that tax is going to hurt imports from China to the US and everyone knows it. Not sure if that tax is a good thing or a bad thing but it will probably mean that production will have to be moved out of China.

@@Coleen_Westcouple of years ago there were no cars for sale either. Covid did strange things to peoples buying habits. Many folks who may have pitched a boat during Covid to travel are coming home now. Markets fluctuate and usages change. For me seeing more yachts for sale is a good thing. As a buyer it opens up my options and more inventory means there is more wiggle room for price negotiations too.

@@murphyslaw907 ..fair enough. Those are valid points. For the most part, all of this problem is government made. The 25 percent import tariff is all government. The high interest rate is all governemnt. The inflation rate is all governemnt. The far left extremist illigally occupying the white house has intentionally driven up the price of fuel as he pumps the junk of battery cars that no one wants. All these fact have ruined the market. Almost no one is will to spend their money on these trawler now. Imagine a more than million dollar tariff on a new 68. Nightmare. Tax Tax Tax. at ever step. Purchase price is taxed, fuel is massively taxed, docking is now hugely taxed, registration is taxed etc. NOT interested. Just decided not to get one. The prices are cut in half now.
