Anyone who’s prepared to zip themselves into a bivi bag after an exhausting day, then get out to switch the bloody camera off deserves our unflinching admiration.
Simon i just want to say i think you have one of the best, informative, interesting , programs on u tube some of the best camera work to keep viewers intested ,fun wholesome programming love all you do always look forward to the next vid god bless (Northern Ontario Canada
@@simonablokeinthewoods Thank you for your wonderful video's, Simon. I've followed you as a subscriber for a while... Love the Broads videos, the Norfolk beaches, I miss the sea so much having moved to Ontario, Canada. Beautiful lakes, rugged camping and hiking, but too fsr away from the Oceans, east or west. I miss that salty, bracing sea air! Thank you for bring it to me, until I can return to my homeland. Best wishes to you for 2021.
Love these walking videos. The local history makes your videos so interesting to watch rather than just the same old cutting wood montage. Keep up the great work Simon
I love watching you on your adventures, i have a kayak and will be kayak camping, i also have the trangia 27 and plan doing some canals near me like the chelmer in Essex. Keep up the interesting videos
It's fortunate that you found that little stand of trees to set up camp. Seems like a nice little stealth camp. There is no way you'd catch me setting up on the beach, lol. Knowing my luck even if i was higher up a storm would pop up and send a storm tide in and swamp me.
Another AWESOME Simon production!👍 You always sign of with "Thanks for watching" while I am thinking thank you Simon, for making these marvelous videos of your stunning country and sharing your rich history... ATB
Ain't no way Simon is a sharing his cheese NOPE. HAHAHA. I hope that chocolate custard concoction was as good as it looked. What a nice relaxing post to watch maybe not so relaxing for Simon.
I was born and bred in Norfolk and my fondest childhood memories are of being on this coast line, now while i live in another part the country’s it is wonderful to watch these videos you are making.
Great stuff Simon, thoroughly enjoyed that. Informative as always as well as keeping it "real" Best laid plans do not always work out and you showing that in your videos gives comfort to as all. Thank you! looking forward to part 2! Paul.
Coming back to this video to say I actually went to Cromer yesterday and retraced Simon's steps a bit down the beach and up the cliff path. I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that stray crab pot is still there.
I must say, your videos are really addictive. This is a part of the country I really need to explore further. It's time I went back to Norfolk I recognise Cromer and the pier but the rest is new to me. It certainly looks like slim pickings in the wild camping department and I winced a little at that raised bit of beach in case a storm blew up and there was no escape. Just as an aside, I bought the One Tigris stove tent after watching one of your videos and stayed in it last week in my usual woodland. It poured down in the night but I was toasty warm and dry. Didn't even light the stove as I had the Snugpak blanket over my fairly basic sleeping bag and was plenty warm enough. Really loving the outdoors during the Covid crisis. Best wishes from Tier 3 in Nottingham!
I did large chunks of this path in September (inspired by your earlier videos), and enjoyed great fish & chips on the beach at Sea Palling. Thanks for bringing back memories of a great holiday.
Spend our 2018 holiday based at Dilham. Happisburgh was the nearest dog friendly beach, it noticeably eroded over the two weeks. One morning the electricity company turn up to more the power supply back. Don't know how long the car park will last. Thanks for the reminder a good holiday.
It's silly, but I really enjoy when Simon uses "squeezy cheese" on trips. Here in the States, the squeezy cheese we have is Easy Cheez and it's just chock full of preservatives and is absolutely a "cheese food product" and not actual cheese, so many of us don't eat it, especially those of us who do wilderness camping. Seeing that the UK and other places have ACTUAL cheese in tubes is fascinating and is something I REALLY want to try some day. Thanks for sharing, Simon!
Primula had so many flavours about 25 years ago & had real pieces of the featured flavouring in it (garlic & herb, ham, shrimp, etc). It was good stuff but I recall it had to be kept at low temperatures otherwise it'd spoil.
I love your hikes Simon they are very relaxing . I’ll say one thing , you got to be in shape to hike in the sand, I know ,did it in the service , one step forward, two steps back . Thanks for the videos along the coast, they are amazing places. Can’t wait for the next one .Stay safe Simon . ATB to you and your family. See you soon. 😎
1000 thumbs up👍 Simon. A great adventure and awesome views of the sea. Just excellent - thanks for taking the time to bring us along. I am sure I would have not lasted on crackers and cheese for the day. I was exhausted watching you climb the cliff AFTER deciding not to stay on the beach, and I was simply 'watching' you climb. 😊
Can’t believe how much that stretch that I once called home has changed 😱 Cromer is well protected. You missed the beautiful Sea Marge in Overstrand. Where Sir Winston Churchill stayed during times in WW2, you were right to move towards Happisburgh. Which is being purposely left to nature. 🤬🥴🤬 Great Video Simon 👍🏻
Sea Marge is a Hotel, but there is a pub section in the grand hall. Stunning cliff top gardens and nice food. The White Hart pub just down the road also nice 👍🏻 Brilliant crabs from the Shack in Overstrand too.
I've been really enjoying this coastal walk series. It inspires me to grab my pack, dust off my boots, fix a quick but hearty meal and.....grab an IPA, plunk myself down in front of my computer and watch another episode! 🙃 Brilliant as usual Simon! (I will eventually get out for that walk!) Next time, try the Lynch's Hot Apple drink with a wee tot of whiskey. 😉 An excellent night cap to a long and strenuous day. Thanks for taking us along, buddy. ATB from Nova Scotia - Darby
When I saw it I paused the video and did a google search to see if i could easily score some here in the States. Unfortunately it's not commonly imported here by the looks of it. Something rather concerning, though, is the top google search results were cheese recalls due to botulism. Although if i can find some I still may give it a try as long as the tube doesn't come puffed, lol.
⛺️🤠👏👏👏 polished-performer. I like the fact that, even if you are reading from crib notes on a location, you don't sound like you're robotically chanting from a prepared script🎥😎. 😊😄, Primula! 😍, Paratroopers favourite ala 1980's-1990's ....... responsible for making UK forces brown biscuits into something edible😛!! (It's not true 'spray-can' plastic-cheese, so I'm sure the Dutchy of Cornwall might give it a go if out on the moors somewhere😊).
Nice one Simon, great views of the cliffs. Haze will be pleased to learn a village in Norfolk is named in his honour, even though they got the spelling wrong! :) atb
Loved that. Followed your route on google earth. Saw the lighthouse, church, radar, WWII building etc. That’s a good walk. If you use the measure function it’s over 22 km?
Great video simon, i really enjoyed that ! I still think its hilarious I walked right past you in Happisburgh and didn't realise you were there, proves your good at stealth camping! 😄 I'm surprised your drone didn't get shot down by the police at Bacton gas terminal, their security unsurprisingly is tight ! I always feel like I'm going to get arrested when I drive past 😄
Hahaha, I was half expecting a little visit from security! 😳 I was probably fast asleep by the time you walked past - I think I hit the sack at about 8 haha - next time! 😁
From Colorado USA. At 10k ft. Altitude.....My main pack food is Mountain House..great stuff for sure. In the 70s my friend and I thought to try their new product...blueberry pancake . We added water and a monster grew out of the package. It foamed over everything and wouldn't cook...so we buried it a distance from camp. Next morning their was a blue blob trail over four feet from the whole down hill. We laughed it off as another trail memory and when we got back home watched a scifi classic.."The Blob" ....great memories to hou Simon..you did another great video! May your steps on the trail be sure and your fire warm at night!
An informative & genuine look at the Norfolk coast path which I've been mulling over. Or the Hadrian's Wall path. After a great insight from Simon, showing how it is, I've learned enough to make a decision that's right for me. I hope his DSLR was ok
Closest thing I can find in the US to the spicy cheese n jalapeno spread is 1oz MRE packets of jalapeno cheese. I can't believe I just bought 2 packets of O'Boy for $24 because of this channel. I love it so much.
I love the way you always check to make sure you haven't forgotten anything and always miss the camera ;) Not sure when you did this, but we had some high spring tides 2 weeks ago so the line may well have been from them. Looks like an interesting area to hike and not too taxing aside from sand.
Haha, I always check these days, having left many a bit of gear behind in the past! You might be right about the spring tide mark, I just got a bit concerned! 😁
Don't know how many times I said look at that, it's beautiful! Thanks for the time, effort and expense you go to to makes these videos, I enjoy every one of them. Stay safe and well
I am not up for ferro rods when hiking and wild camping unless an emergency. Can you recommend a good windoroof lighter besides zippo? Thanks in advance
I don’t think trees would withstand the force of the sea, or the salt water sadly! Shame, they’d look a lot nicer than concrete and harsh, heavy timber structures. 🌳🌴🌲
@@simonablokeinthewoods I live in a costal area infested with cyclones and erosion, our village elders had planted pine trees(of different variety not the Arctic ones) and other trees which have deep roots. I agree that the trees depend on local soil and weather🌍☀⛅☁💧⚡❄, It's a shame to see an entire village lost to The sea, The locals have to keep trying, not for themselves but for thier future generations, Depending on government doesn't work always, I had a hearty laugh😂🤣😅 when I saw those cedar planks used to control erosion.
Cracking walk, how's the general reaction to wild campers in these parts? Tolerated or full stealth mode? ........ Ok I'm in 20 minutes now, it's full stealth 👍🏽🙏🏽
@@simonablokeinthewoods picking a spot where you can see lights from houses, and using a light yourself is something that wouldn't be possible where I live. I mean, I'm happy for you it works out every time, but there's stealth and then there's what I'd need to do here to go undetected :) (if I sound a bit jealous, it's because I am :D :D )
it's grim up t' north! Try the south west coastal path one day, especially from weymouth going west through the purbecks in dorset. Some beautiful scenery
The bivvy was great, I’d normally leave the zip undone a bit for ventilation, but this one has a mesh panel at the head end with a rain cover - zero condensation. 👍
Me and my family did this walk February this year, starting from the RNLI launch. Love this part of the world, and love fish & chips from Happisburgh even more 👍👍
Mum and I wanted to come down to that neck of the woods purely for its fossil qualities. Maybe one year we will, also was planning to come down to stay on site so myself and hubby could play on the broads but Covid had other ideas. Perhaps next year 🙏. Lovely to see you out and about, thanks for sharing and for a small in sight into the area
Great video Simon, I spent many childhood summers holidaying at the former Crown and Anchor pub and hotel in Trimingham run by my Grandad sadly destroyed by fire in 1984 and remember the cliffs removing part of the gardens back then
Oscar worthy! Especially that ending scene with the music. Enjoyed that fella! Makes me wanna try bivvy and tarp camping. I have the DD travel hammock/ waterproof and supposedly doubles up as a bivvy, never tried that out yet. Though I need a cheap winter sleeping bag still. Anyway, can't wait for next episode! ... Ps, do you reckon those batchelors,. Pasta & sauce packeqets can be made by pouring water into the packet? Or are those mountain House packs different type of bag?
Thanks Micky! They are a different type of bag, but it might still work - the batchelors packets normally need boiling for a while, but I might give it a go. 👍
And then finally you're so exhausted folding yourself into the sleeping bag. But than you have to unfold again to stop the camera. Just for the sake of your subscribers. Thank you Simon! Much appreciated.
Excellent! 💖 So glad you didn’t stay down on the beach in case that tide came in waaay high.😮 Enjoyed this very much, and this history of the places and things you come upon is so appreciated as well. 🙏 thanks Simon!
Cheese and crackers is my absolute favourite snack. With some pickled chillies. Glad you carried on your coastal route series, I enjoyed it. I've decided to break it up myself now.
Packing a bivvy and expecting rain, I would have stopped at the brick and mortar shelter! However, I have just come to your channel having 'sat on my butt watching 'Cruising the Cut.' Narrowboat travelers have their homes with them and 'only' need a satisfactory mooring.
I'm from Lincolnshire and don't know the Norfolk coast south of Overstrand, I didn't know the erosion was that bad. 😳 Really enjoyable video as ever Simon. 👍
Hello Simon! My family and I always watch your videos and they bring us great joy. We always feel so happy and comfortable while watching your many adventures! We hope all is well and thank you Simon. ❤️
Great film as always, I kayaked Weybourne To Mundesley last month and plan to kayak the next leg so this is good to see what I will see next. Looking forward to part 2. Looks like you have a new stove surprised your not using the one made by your brother LOL.
Mundesley of the smallest Museum has to be one of my most favourite places. For those who want to linger a while there are several cafes, fish and chips and ice creams to be found!!
