The Norfolk Coast Path - Part 3. Wells to Weybourne. Tarp and Bivi Camp on the Beach.

In this video, I am finally back on the trail, walking the Norfolk Coastal Path. Setting off from the port of Wells-next-the-sea, I head eastwards toward Cromer, passing the pretty villages of Stiffkey, Brancaster and Cley-next-the-sea, stunning salt marshes and many relics from our military defensive past, before enduring a long and tiring stretch along the seemingly endless shingle beach.
Tired and sore, I stop and set up a simple tarp and bivi shelter on the beach - home for the night.
After a well earned dinner and some time to relax I turn in to the sound of the wind and the waves crashing on the shore. A good nights sleep is needed - tomorrow brings more miles!
I would like to apologise for the deterioration in picture and sound quality during the video - my camera had an unfortunate encounter with the North Sea and gave up the ghost. I filmed the remainder of the video on my phone and GoPro, neither of which have good audio.
Part two sees me completing this leg of the trail, past old anti aircraft batteries, bunkers and anti tank defences, up and over the cliffs into the town of Sheringham and finally on to the old pier at Cromer.
Cromer marks the half way point of the extended Norfolk Coastal Path - I will be back to continue another day (I’ll try not to leave it too long this time!)
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Been looking forward to this for so long! Weybourne has a special place in my heart. Last year I asked my partner to marry me on Weybourne beach, silly lass said yes 😂 We sat on the beach after, enjoying the sound of the waves and I couldn't have picked a better day, the sky was huge, beautiful and blue. Its a wonderful place. Who says men can't be romantic 🤔🤣

Sorry about the camera. Thank you so much for sharing the adventure. Reading the comments of your followers is true entertainment for me, the words used, probably not at all unusual to you, are to a constant source of interest to me. English to an American, sometimes so different but so familiar and ultimately understood, in context; it’s beautiful to read. Your followers are kind and have a genuine sense of humor. Watching you silhouetted on the berm, drinking from the tube from your well provisioned pack, the salt marsh below you, the plain stretched out for miles behind you, made me wonder about English Island history. I wonder what it was like for the first people there, no built up berm, no paths, no towns? Your videos are terrific and distracting, just wonderful. Thanks again... Texas

Thanks mate! I often wonder the same - our part of the island has a deep history, having been inhabited since the Stone Age - huge amounts of history - it would have looked very different back then - this part of the country was mostly under water for a start - our dense forests which covered most of the island long since gone.

Great video as always. I guess you drank the Land Rover kool aid. As they say I drank the VW kool aid. I ve been a VW tech for over 20 years now and I probly enjoy wrenching on my vw's like you wrenching on your Land Rover. When I first started in the automotive industry I worked on a couple defenders they were pretty old from the 60's I think the top speed was 55 mph. Very cool and quirky but hard to find parts. So nice to be taken back by you to such a special place. We camped on the campsite at Stiffkey and the tide silently crept in during one afternoon on the other side of the boundary vegitation. It was very strange. No sound. More power to your elbow. Simon.

I would love to know why 4 people dislike the video and who they are , I dont get it , it's not like you make content that polarises people its calming content that's always great to watch. Theres only one video of yours I couldn't watch and that was your very first review video of a rucksack and that's only because there was music over you talking and It scrambled my brain a bit but even then I didn't click thumb down. Ah well just know that the vast majority of your subs appreciate what you do Simon , would love to see more camps in the Baker tent , a man could live in that almost permanently if it was pitched next to the river.

I visited Winterton last September ''2021'' and loved all the walking, stayed in a lovely cottage for 7 days along with my daughter and her dog, we visited places like Sheringham and Cromer and just walked and walked. I did live in Yarmouth when I was in my late teens back in the 80's, we also visited Yarmouth but that was the only day we had rain but I still noticed a massive difference from the 80's till the present, shame really. From near Glasgow myself and have a lot of history with Blackpool and sadly that town is the same now. AnyWHO - I know this upload is a a couple of years old but just wanted to say thanks Simon, I have always battled with depression and watching your uploads along with a few others I always really appreciate the time and effort that goes into them, they also help me through some of the deeper darker days. Never tried the wild camping but it does look really appealing and you have educated me on some nice places along with some other very handy various tips. Thanks.

Thanks Simon for allowing me to walk the Norfolk Coastal Path from my bed. Absolutely lovely. Apart from a love of nature, solitude and walking, we have two more things in common: a painful top of the foot if shoes are slightly tight, and flooded DSLRs... I did mine in through a few hours’ of taking photos in the rain. It cost £350 in repairs.

Hi Simon, Brilliant video as always. I have walked this section many times, making use of the Coasthopper bus to get back to Wells. At 3.00 you walk past a large tree trunk. The right to roam, and the freedom to sleep in the wild (aka wild camp or just camping if you're a Kiwi like me!) are essentially human rights. Sure, don't set up in people's yards, don't trample fences or walls or attack vegetation or disturb any creatures and --- light no fires, but....do it and enjoy it. Leave no trace. Always carry a trowel to dig a hole when you shit. Be discrete and respectful. Don't flash lights about (red light is best at night) and give your position away. Your connection with that tiny piece of land will stay with you forever. Thanks Simon.

Nice video! I love the Norfolk coast! And luckily Wells is the closest town to me. It is strange the rules regarding camping on the beach, hundreds of people can (and do) sleep there in a beach tent all day in summer, as long as its daylight or its illegal. The trouble is (as always) a few irresponsible people camping and having fires, breaking glass etc spoiling it. They usually Bury it and it comes to surface a few weeks later. I often camp out here, but always take away more rubbish than I bring. Anyway, thanks for sharing! And keep them coming 👍

Simon, I'm sure that when when Tolkien was describing the 'Dead marches' in Lord of the rings he must have had that place in mind! Thankfully you don't need a Golum to see you across safely. LOL. great vid fella. thank you.

Think the dead marshes might have actually been the sodden and flooded plains of Flanders late 1917 (Third battle of Ypres), Even if Tolkien denied the influence of his experience in WWI. However, having been in that lovely part of Britain for both army service and holidays, I agree on the sentiment!

Lovely video Simon. Holidayed as a kid on the East Anglian coast so lots of familiar sights and sounds. Managed a quick visit to Cromer last year but in 35oC heat! Beautiful part of the country.

Lovely, came back late to find this continuing saga of the North Norfolk coastal path. 😊 made my evening! However, may I suggest that to truly fit the picture of an Englishman, with trousers rolled up, standing in the sea, you should really take off your beanie and replace it with a handkerchief knotted at the corners! (Hope your foot and camera are okay) keep these great videos coming!😊

About your last video, Simon a bbloke in the workshop... great addition to your title ! Very nice workshop by the way .Made me envious , but really, my workshop is not that bad so I shouldnt be. Yours looks so organised and clean though... Nice video an demonstration, I wont enter your give away, I will make my own after your model! I also have some ashwood in my storage, and some oak, will check it out for pieces to use. really inpirational. The bag is another matter, I inherited a sewing machine when my wife passed away 10 years ago but had still not had time to try it out. Tentipi make some nice bags in canvas for the pole (a five piece center pole) that might work fine, I have one for my tent, will check it out. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your camera, Simon. Great job at capturing the rest of your experience to share with us. A lesser man would have given up and gone home at that point.
