Man, I'm so grateful that Norm frequented so many talk shows. What a travesty it would be if we were only left with his stand-up material and not his many conversations. RIP Norm
The worst part of of doing a congo line at the office Christmas party is when you look back and realize you're doing it alone and you're not in the office but in a state hospital for the criminally insane
Found this on Google: “Coward Of The County” caused problems for singer Larry Gatlin, who performed with his two brothers Steve and Rudy as “Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.” The song implicated three fictitious Gatlin boys in a rape sequence.
On social media everyone posts when they have a hang nail to hear how brave they are, Norm lived with cancer for years and never complained. He's a mans man. R.I.P.
Listening to Norm talk about Louis CK and Roseanne was so genuine and intelligent that they had to crucify him. He was the hero we didn’t deserve to begin with and then the way he got sick anyway d dealt with that on his own then got fucked over by Jimmy Fallon and his ilk before the cancer finally rolled him is kind of biblical in it’s tragedy.
Every couple of months I have to come back and listen to this. Every time I listen I catch something that hadn't struck me. They are two funny dudes. For some reason, Norm laughing makes it 10 times funnier. Who knew they were so good together?
Norm McDonald was the greatest natural comedian of my life time! His humor was simply to drop a punchline that NO ONE saw coming, and with that said the joke was so perfect that there was NOTHING that any other comedian(s) could say that could top it. Norm was the funniest guy in the last 40 years, and this was an era of some truly great comedic talent. RIP Norm McDonald, you were "The King of Comedy"!
At least 10 times here so far. Always return to this every once in awhile. I remember listening to this several times when the podcast originally aired many years ago and it's been something I enjoy showing other people occasionally ever since. It's so freaking funny. RIP Kenny Rogers and Norm Macdonald.
Years later Adam would confirm on one ACS that that was indeed a very deliberate swipe at the Gatlin Brothers country group in "Coward" by the writer of the song (not Kenny Rogers, he just sings it). In case you didn't know...there were THREE OF THEM. I believe he interviewed Larry Gatlin who confirmed all this and was FUCKING pissed at the writer.
how was your year without him? I’ve watched or listened to countless hours of Norm on TV, Podcasts, Radio & StandUp on RU-vid, but it hasn’t gotten any easier knowing he’s gone. thank God that these exist & we can get a quick fix anytime we need it.
Adam Carolla is one of the few people that could get Norm to belly laugh. This is one of the few shows where Norm didn't have to do the "heavy lifting", comedy-wise.
I guess Dennis Miller rates high up their too. You know it is a good one when none of them can control their laughter. Right out of the gate, the only one that could Crack up the pro's was a pro himself......Tim Conway. Miss you Norm but your comedy lives froever. Norm and Adam had chemistry as well as he and Miller. An entire improvised comedy but from sections of two songs. RIP Norm and Kenny.
That 'Ruby' song is basically how Americans treated Vietnam Vets when they came home. At least that's what I heard. I mean they got no parades that I know of. Just protest and no moral support.
I'm so conflicted. This was exceptionally funny. A given because of Norm. But also really sad based on the topics covered. Norm was truly a great comedian, and an even better man. God bless.
"The Gatlin Brothers?...Can't week just pick another name? What other names would be good for rapin'?" One day while he was working, Tony Orlando & Dawn came calling They hogtied Becky with a big yellow ribbon, and there was three of them.
@@walterlippmann6292 Tim's okay but he wanders down roads of pure nonsense sometimes and it can be hard to follow. I've never seen him do stand-up though.
There’s a generational thing perhaps. People don’t talk the same way or remember the same things. That’s one. Social media has also changed people drastically and for the worse. I think young people are more alone, pampered, scared, etc. Theres definitely been a cultural shift and younger people don’t seem comfortable with conflict and irony. They’re more literal perhaps. Being self-aware can be taken to extremes as well. Comedy seems pretty boring and canned these days. I gave up on TV entirely, let alone SNL.
"You know I have a knife... Ive told you about my knife.... Well, I could get a knife. I know a guy... I could get a knife illegally. It couldn't be traced back to me. ... you used to be afraid of me." RIP my friend
They made a movie about Coward of the County... The last scene is on RU-vid. Of course they put Kenny in the middle of the bar acting like a f-ing superhero.
Can anyone explain why they couldn’t rewind the audio? Norm asked for it to be rewound a few times and the engineer eventually came on and said they couldn’t. It appears they can pause, but not rewind?!
