@@VanHellsing12 Super Dave Osborne's real name was Bob Einstein. (True fact: Bob's brother's name is actually Albert. For some reason, he decided not to use his real name when he got into show business. Go figure.) (If you've ever heard of "Albert Brooks"... that's the brother in question.)
The fact that he specifically told Super Dave off camera that he didn't know what the word "epithet" meant, and then went on to use it (incorrectly) in the show to set him off is pure comedic genius.
I think that was just a bit that Super Dave was doing- I don’t think Norm actually mentioned before the show that he doesn’t know what epithet means. Funny either way though haha
The fact that you and 370 people didn't get Super Dave's obvious joke and interpreted it as your comment suggests is baffling. Are you completely r-worded?
@@PotatoMaGobinus Watch the Bob Saget talk. I honestly think Adam is hurting right now. From what Sagat said, Adam may have been his closest friend. Don’t expect anything out of him, that’s not fair to him, or to us the fans. He was a fun punching bag, but Norm saw something special in him, and to have a genius of comedy find someone special in you, I can’t imagine the heartbreak Adam is in. He played the silly sidekick for years and must have loved working with him, just give him time. Maybe he’ll never say anything, and I think we should accept that as much as if he says something.
@@Alexander_Grant Yeah not only was he his sidekick on this show, but Norm portrayed him as such in his book. Adam made a heartfelt post on Instagram, but that's all I've seen so far. I get the feeling we haven't seen the last of Adam Egret.
@Agent 39 you might be jaded enough to think that, but I still believe Pringles was a super laid-back tennis ball manufacturer that had some potatoes show up on their shipping dock
“I’ve been dying to know, where do you get your ideas from?” is possibly the most embarrassingly stupid question Adam had on the show and it created one of the best parts of this episode.
Sorry if its going over my head, but the back story if you don't know it makes it even more funny. It was a real Norm thing to set up his cohost to ask that. During Super Daves first episode of his solo show he starts off by speaking to the audience saying he will try something new and will answer questions from the audience. Carol Burnette stands up and asks him "Where do you get your ideas from?" , the joke being this is how she would start most of her own shows she had years before. You can see that little shit eating grin Norm has afterwards, Super Dave knew the reference but I am not so sure Adam knew it nor a lot of other people. Really miss Norms ability build so many layers into what seems like something so simple on the surface.
Super Dave (Real name Bob Einstein) was such a great straight man. Probably one of the few people capable of barreling through half of Norm's without a hint of reservation and actually getting him to shut up every once and a while. In a nest of chucklefucks he was the only man capable of not chuckling o7
this editing is golden. it really paints a narrative that's only implied in the original. captures the best in a concise and flowing way. that title is golden too, "Norm Macdonald (First Episode) A Hilarious Disaster" making it seem like this is completely unintended.
I'm old, used to LOVE the John Byner show. Super Dave was a legend. So my whole life I liked him, finally knew him as Bob Einstein, amazing in Curb... yet it was only a few years ago that I found out he is Albert Brooks' brother!
If you wanna see some classic Super Dave Osborne/Bob Einstein, you should look up the work he did on the legendary Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour back in the 60s (alongside other legends such as Steve Martin who were just getting their start at the time) as well as episodes and clips from his own TV show "Super Dave" which ran from 1987 to 1991. An absolute classic comedy show that is criminally underrated these days. It deserves to be remembered and celebrated FAR more than it currently is. It's the show that made the LA native Super Dave/Bob Einstein an honorary Canadian (as the show was shot and produced in Toronto, Ontario, Canada). SOOO many classic bits. The character of Super Dave is a spoof of Evel Knievel, a stuntman with Einstein's trademark acerbic wit and acid tongue who is constantly getting cartoonsishly injured when his stunts inevitably go horribly wrong. The very first segment of the show itself was a classic! The announcer...announces...that the night's special celebrity guest is none other than Ray Charles and Dave is driving him to the theater/studio at that very moment. Then their car arrives in the front parking lot and begins doing all manner of crazy car stunts - donuts, burnouts, driving on two wheels, 180° spins, etc - and the audience is wowed at Super Dave's skill in stunt driving. Then the car comes screeching right up to the theater's entrance, the driver's door opens...and it turns out RAY CHARLES was the one driving, while a terribly frightened Super Dave was in the passenger seat. Because Ray insisted on driving to the show from the airport himself lolol. So it turns out they weren't doing a bunch of crazy car stunts, that was just Ray trying to drive them to the show lololol fucking brilliant. Then another classic and probably most famous Super Dave bit is when he was to jump off the top of Toronto's CN Tower with only a nylon cord for protection. But at the zero hour Dave chickens out and prepares to abandon the stunt, taking off the protective nylon cord and arguing with the interviewer. Then when they decide to go back inside the tower, the interviewer opens the door, which bumps Dave and accidentally knocks him off the top of the tower and he falls all the way down, slamming onto the ground below and leaving a Wile E. Coyote-style imprint of his body on the ground that was like a foot deep lolol. But enough of me spoiling these classic bits, go look em up on your own. Theres FAR more to the man than his work on Curb Your Enthusiasm and his appearances on Norm's podcast here. Theres a reason he was one of the most respected legends in comedy. RIP Robert "Bob" "Super Dave Osborne" Einstein! ;_;7
This episode is one of the greatest bits of internet history. The interaction between the three is so good , like it was scripted by a genius comedy writer. Oh and facial expressions.
Rest easy Super Dave, you had a hell of an impact on so many people. I remember when I was a kid I'd stay up late and watch Super Dave's movie and loved every minute.
This might legitimately be the funniest 10 minutes ever committed to film. RIP Norm, guess the big man couldn't wait for the live show anymore. Thanks for best laughs.
Norm at 3:09 interrupting Super Dave mid sentence is one of my all time favorite Norm Macdonald moment’s. SUPER DAVE “You know what I was thinking though” NORM “Remember the girl who got stabbed?” (A brief silence is had, immediately followed by his trusty sidekicks genuine confusion) ADAM EGET “What?!” “We went over words before the show, don’t use it if you don’t know what it means.” -Super Dave, RIP.
If you are having a bad day watch this and you will instantly cheer up. Fantastic first episode of the podcast, you can see a real respect and love between dave and norm. R.i.p SuperDave
