I met him 3yrs ago. He was standing behind me at airport security. He was joking around with his mgr and when I turned around to see who was cracking all these jokes I was blown away. I told him he’s one of my faves and I always watch whatever show he appears on. He couldn’t have been nicer and was asking me all kind of questions about myself. I’ll never forget that. He showed gratitude and interest in his fan base.
@@c2cooler2 me too. I had butterflies. He looked me in the eyes the whole time and asked me about my life and what a great city I live in. He spoke to me like we were catching up. Saying things like thank you sweetheart. He surpassed my expectations. I always thought back to it and was just thinking about it last week before he passed. He was a great guy!
My son was his driver when he performed in Kelowna BC in 2016 I believe. My son told him how much of a fan I was of his. Norm was going to Edmonton next where I lived so he left 2 comp tickets at the door for me to see his show! He also got my son to call me unfortunately I missed the call ☹ What a great show and memories.
Not sure what you mean. If you missed your son's call, how would you know about the tickets, and so wouldn't you have missed the show? So why are you saying "Great show"? Or you mean you had already bought tickets anyway?
At first, I didn't get him, but now the more I watch the more I realize how funny this guy is, he is so natural, and you can't steal most of his jokes cause it's not gonna work for most comedians
@@rickylennon3847 i'm the hugest Chris Farley fan. Don't be silly. You know damn well 33 is way too young. 61 is too young too. You really think 61 is old?
Norm was a comedy genius. He made it look like he was such an amateur, but was a master of timing and facial expressions. He made it so fun to be an observer, and Dave loved it too!
Norm and Conan had s similar thing going. They could riff off each other and crack each other up. Then I heard he got blacklisted from the show bc of staff protesting something or other. To Conan's shame.
@@wintercomesearly had to do with his Saturday Night Live firing, the money man (friend of OJ) who made that decision also blacklisted him from talk shows.
@@harryhager4128 Back in the 90's it was the Don Ohlmeyer thing but I'm referring to the second wave of resistance that came during the #MeToo when Norm defended Roseanne and Louis CK. He was immediately cancelled from an appearance on Fallon (NBC) but the scuttlebutt was also that Conan's staff threatened to quit if Norm returned. Although Norm publicly apologized - I don't know that Conan ever brought him back on the show again.
@@wintercomesearly it also came during the last years of Norm's life. I can't remember where exactly (probably Conan Has a Friend podcast), but Conan said they tried to get him back on multiple times but he would always say no. If you watched Norm's Insta posts around Covid you could tell his health was in extreme decline; palest and thinnest (after his youth) I had ever seen him.
The beauty of Norm. He lets Dave get the last laugh. “So how long did you guys date? Ha ha ha ! He knew funny , that guy. He is actually irreplaceable.
And, in the middle of the story, when Dave cracked a joke, Norm picked up his cup and took a drink to allow the audience to laugh at Dave's joke. A real classy move.
@@lapacesiaconvoi Yup that was a great one liner from Dave. Got a much larger reaction out of Norm then you typically ever see; could tell how funny he thought it was
I deeply regret that I discovered Norm MacDonald after he died. All these years I have been missing out on his unique brand of humor, genuinely infectious personality, and masterful storytelling. He could take any common situation and turn it into rip-roaring laughter. As countless comments attest, Norm was so much more than a comedian; he was a friend.
@@nikhilrasquinha3442 I'll have to look that up. I'm just now acquainting myself with his work and while this interview was interesting, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. He has such massive appeal and I only see that he has an original voice and and a few creative tricks. I love Bill Burr, Louis CK (minus his hellish scandal), Jim Breuer, a Lot of others and countless former SNL cast. I wish I could "get" his funny.
@@GreenCloudArtOrg420 Not so random. I saw the bit with Conan. I don't. Assume what you will with that fact. I agree. Since I was a kid I missed the years he was on weekend update. It's taken a while to appreciate him in the same light that made him so beloved.
@@Smorgasbord. it takes awhile for us mere mortals to realize that Norm is like Rodney or Groucho, always ON! The man was #comedy in human form, thank u Norm 🙏👑
He did so many things at once. With his hands and body. The way the words trail off and the little asides at the end of sentences that take a second and cause conclusive laughter. A comedic genius and recognized by his peers as such. A comedian's comedian.
He thought the same about one of his heroes, Rodney Dangerfield: that it wasn't just the punchlines, but that everything about him was funny. This comment made me realize that Norm reached that very same summit in comedy, but he got there in his own unique way.
Another Norm classic. This very appearance was the second I ever saw from him, SNL never was a big thing in Sweden. Anyhow...I didn´t remember his name after my first exposure, because I was laughing so hard I started to cry. During this appearance I made sure to write down his name on a piece of paper. Then I downloaded everything I could find online and recorded it to cassette. That way I could listen to Norm whenever I wanted to, without having to start up the drudgingly slow family PC running Windows 3.whatever. Those where the times! R.I.P. Norm, you old chunk of coal!
Guy from Denmark here… I discovered Norm about 8 years ago, and I’ve watched about all his stuff… I am so into Norm that I even contacted him through his manager and sent him some of my thoughts.. but alas he died 4 weeks after I contacted him! I always share clips with Norm with my friends and most of the time they also think he is very funny, but not half as much as myself.. I can rewatch him again and again and still enjoy every odd thing he says and do through the whole set. He was the genius and I wish I had the chance to see/meet him in person. RIP diamond
We forget sometimes that Dave also started out as a stand-up comedian and his instincts are generally good when it comes to responses (though with Norm you never really know where he's heading in any story he tells!). Norm was on Dave's very last show and for the first time ever (and only that I'm aware of), Norm actually got emotional when talking about what a great influence Dave was on him. Here it is if anyone wants to see it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mFjEvl43zYY.html
@@ColKurtzknew I love that one hahaha, its really hard to tell any norm jokes because of his unique mannerisms and delivery, but that one never fails to get a laugh. "Oh, and look at this picture of my son here!"
“Clean” - I’m not sure you know what that means. So many of Norm’s bits involve things like pedophilia and sex. Half the humor in this bit involves gay sex.
Norm is an amazing storyteller and is a master craftsman of jokes. His delivery is also top-notch. He is fucking brilliant. I give a giant belated middle finger to NBC and Rolling Stone magazine for not appreciating his talent. I can't hear the phrase "crack whore" without smiling, thanks to him.
@@JulianAlpsNews They ranked the SNL cast members and put him as number 135 out of 141 total cast members at the time. Apparently, Norm was upset about it. Understandably.
I like the subtle thing he does where he doesn't actually say any of the goofy names of shooters-- sex on the beach, etc. The bit works better that way because those would be kind of familiar 'jokes' and would take away from his story.
Did stand-up in Los Angeles and gave him a ride home from the airport one time, first time I had met him: his directions to his house sounded exacty like how he delivered his comedy! "Yeah, what we wanna do is turn... to the LEFT... at that Sepulveda down there..." Brilliant material. Joe Camel bit is probably my favorite.
He did the same bit on Conan...while with most people it would seem like they have little material, with norm, that's the joke. If someone had brought this up, he'd think it was hilarious even if nobody else did. This is the genius of norm and his brand of funny.
I went to see Norm when he was on stage in Vancouver. That had to be 15 years ago. I still tell people that night was amazing. He opened up with his ride from the airport, the hotel had free wifi, so he was browsing the 'web'.... he paused and said "is every woman a whore?" People were finding it hard to laugh as they were crying so hard and trying to catch their breath. It got better and better. RIP old man.
This guy was incredibly underrated idk why but I just love his style of comedy his story telling was so good lol has me cracking up. He will be missed rip Norm
A master of his craft and so incredibly original. No point trying to copy him because it won't work. So great to see him here with Dave, who always got Norm.
HILARIOUS story! Sounds like something that could've happened to me back in the day... though I suspect I'd have lacked the nerve to reveal it on national TV.
A great, great shame. Stephen Fry said about the English comedian Peter Cook that "he had funniness in the way that beautiful people have beauty", and this applied to Norm, who was both a comedy genius and a beautiful man.
OMG, I can't get enough Norm content ! It's very hard to make me laugh and I just crack up at everything he says - Comedians in cars or whatever with Jerry Seinfeld, on Craig Ferguson's show, all the Dennis Miller stuff, Howard Stern., etc. I didn't appreciate how funny he was until he left us. I used to be more sad when famous people died, but everybody dies. My wife died aboot 10 months ago, that sucked. I just wish I could be sharing all this Norm stuff with her, he was so funny. The Jay Leno stuff, Letterman, Conan, he was awesome and under-appreciated.
