As someone who recently broke a bone, I found this super helpful to understand the terminology for healing and help map the terms to bone strength at different phases.

Thank you.. I'm at 11 weeks post Tibial Fracture and repair. You explained all that well. I'm 65 today .. next week released to partial weight bearing.. I was a less perfect patient i started partial weight a week ago with crutches .. I found myself forgetting to not walk .. transfers couch to comode ( like body says I'm good) .. I did read some docs started patients at 10 weeks partial weight bearing You reminded me this fracture takes up to 1 year to heal.. I had forgotten that Basically 11 weeks I have used castor oil / comfrey paste to both knees .. and even my arm at shoulder cuz I broke the arm too I'm amazed at how the body heals!

thank you so much, I broke my tibia bone 12 days ago and wondered how long healing takes and how the whole process goes cause I could not imagine anything. I will mark this video as "pearl" for myself as I always do when I discover a really interesting contribution. And I will subscribe. God bless you

Wow I've watched nearly 100 videos about fractures since I had my ankle fractured 5.27.2023. I must say this particular video gives me hope. It's well-presented and I learned more. I'm on my 4th week and still unable to walk:s

How are you doing now? I just had surgery on Monday and it’s hurting bad

@@esedman157 I couldn't walk for 6 weeks, not even a step(with a walker even). But 4 days ago, I managed to take few steps already! I have bandage and splint on the injured foot. The next following days I've done more steps and I can go the bathroom again😭. Today(7.19.2023), picking up the speed already. I'm still using a walker though but better than 6 weeks of being bed bound. I didn't go to the doctor yet, I started taking collagen and Vit D 2 weeks prior to walking again. I do some yoga leg workout in bed, I guess the combination helped strengthen it. I feel the improvement every day. I have been told if you had surgery, it takes a bit longer to heal but it will get there. How are you now?🙏🏻

@@IslanderloverBKK wow that’s great to hear you are walking! My injury happened July 2nd and surgery July 10th. The pain has been really bad so far so I’m on pain killers. I injured my foot before with a break although no surgery and was back walking in 5 weeks. It’s really a humbling life altering experience when you break an ankle or leg like this. My hope is I can be walking again in 7 more weeks. Best of luck to you in the future

great video and explanation. I got to this video because the term "interval bony bridging" was used on my x-ray report and I was curious what it meant.

After remodelling stage can the bone look totally normal ie like prefracture or will there always be some semblence of periosteal reaction? What s the difference in the healing rate of pediatrics and adults like timeline for peds? Thanks, great talk!😢

that syndesmodesis screw braking shows that u need to remove it at 6 weeks

will a fracture callus decrease in size over time and go back to the original bone shape? I broke my 5th metatarsal just like the one shown in the video and the callus is so big that the lump is visible on the side of my foot and is painful

Likely yes, in the remodeling stage of healing osteoclast cells break down the excess bone and osteoclasts rebuild the bone where it should be stronger. Remodeling takes a lot of time though! It also helps to put mild stress through exercise on the bone, as that signals the osteoblasts/clasts to work
