"Censorship is when a man can't have a steak because a baby can't chew it." - Mark Twain This kind of last-second change is RIDICULOUS in an M-rated game, especially on the platform that allows Baldur's Gate 3, Last of Us 2, Mortal Kombat, et cetera the list goes on.

@@Spendingryan Sounds like the German versions of games that had violence in them. Those were censored until the 2010's, after that we finally got original versions here as well. Blood removed or recoloured. Back in the original Half-Life, we fought against robots instead of soldiers. People dragged into vents didn't spill blood and guts but nuts and bolts. Really was a different time and boy am I glad it's behind us.
If they're going to censor something they might as well remove the ESRB ratings. They become meaningless at this point. The only censorship I actually somewhat agree on is the "HARD R" graffiti in the game. That's ultimately a nothingburger in terms of censoring imo and doesn't detract from the actual content of the game.

not just that, people keep forgetting. IF they censorship one thing, what else they are gonna keep censoring or changing? All the Asian games like Blue Protocol and Lost Ark all met with censorship one form in another. I have been telling people they will keep doing this and you will see it become worse. I was right.
They want the freedom to ram their divisive crap into all our unwilling, non-consenting faces, then claim that we're being "intolerant hateful bigots" when we exercise our freedom of speech and autonomy by telling them "no".
They hate straight people and they think they can force the world to be more like them. They don't realise that they're turning the majority against them.
That's the point. This is a Marxist strategy. Being generally satisfied and content with life makes revolution impossible, so they need to spread discontent and make people unhappy. They're doing this from the bottom-up. It's a long game where the end goal is communism.
Censorship has nothing to do with protecting against "immorality" or protecting "marginalized people" like advocates often say, it's nothing more than a ploy to exert power over others and force compliance.
First the graffiti now the outfits. Remember Abbyzilla getting it on in TLOU2 was ok. Bear action in BG3 was ok. But cleavage in Stellar Blade is bad. Sick of Sony and Journalists hypocrisy.
I'm guessing it was a really shitty and tasteless joke, though they still come off like a total psychopath. Either way, imagine if somebody joked about offering to pay anyone who kills Anita Sarkeesian. We'd still be hearing about how she got death threats for the next decade. Oh wait, we did.
people on twitter calling for violence and setting fantasy bounties (they don't really have the money to pay that, it's just a fantasy) has been a thing for 4+ years
These are online anons who are seeking any excuse to incite violence and to call for murder, which no normal or reasonable person would tolerate. Remove games entirely out of the equation, and the problem of being mentally unstable still lies with any individual calling for harm on others. You don’t joke about stuff like that.
On the skullgirls discussion (and yeah, it's still going on, on the steam forums where the devs can't ban you if you mention the censorship) the answer for "if it's so unimportant why change it?" always is "cuz they wanted and they could", then obiously reply "Then it was important enough to care" and then "no, they just wanted to and could". The people that defend this stuff really just don't want to think.
I signed, as well, despite the fact that I will never trust ShiftUp after this. Blacklisted, for bending the knee. I hope they revert this, though, because Stellar Blade looked promising. This debacle is exactly why I didn't pre-order.
Letters mailed to Sony and ShiftUp would probably do more. They can hand wave away an online petition, but it’s not as easy when they’re getting physical mail overloading their address.
The guys doing the petition said that they know online petitions don't carry alot of weight, especially in korea... so when it ends they are printing it out and taking it to shiftup hq
I think some do. The classic group of "Textures don't affect the gameplay. Just play the game, like me!" bros. It is also the same ones who say "Free 2 Play games are the best, but only if I don't have to pay and all content I like is free".
@@brianestrada1993 yeah true, in my country we have the saying "He who barks the loudest has the most to hide". And it literally applies to anything. When there is a group that is less than 5% of the community changing the products we buy because they are being extremely loud, we should be loud as well.
That is what I say too. If it isn't censorship, all they have to do is offer both versions which is trivial in digital media. The only reason not to offer both, would be if it was censorship. This can be done in all games. Want to remove lewds in Tomb Raider games? Add a toggle option, and people can do it on their own. The only time this doesn't work is if the person is A) Too stupid to know how a video game menu works. B) The person is a fascist that only cares about what others can't do.
@@user-pf3gd1zd2i it's possible to do that, but it would take some devtime since it's adding a whole new outfit slot and the related code. I hope they do it (more options are always good) but I don't expect it'll happen before dlc
Not me. The 2 outfits that were changed were barely changed, in fact the Mouten Peony looks better with stockings. If anyone is upset by these slight changes to the point they won't play the game those people have bigger issues.
They also did it in the most sus way, as if they were expressly trying to sell us on one version of the game, and then ship a different version - not even offering notice of the changes. Kind of a 'we're gunna stiff you, and won't care if you notice' middle finger.
Remember it okay for two men to have sex in a Teen rated game or bears to have sex with humans. Adult women in sexy outfits in a mature game in inappropriate for adults.
If they can get away with that, who knows what else they'll do in future patches? Did you ever think of that? It's the principle. We were told there wouldn't be any censorship. It makes sense to be upset we were lied to.
Petition is already at 24k/25k. Also that bounty put out on someone is enough for the FBI to be involved. GF had a similar issue where they were a target on a hitlist from a deranged ex, and the ex is now spending over 20 years in prison, for merely having the list, motive, and legal firearms... If they think they can make such a clear threat over a public medium without any repercussions, they are woefully mistaken; I would be shocked if they are not arrested and charged for it, as even if they never intended to put money out, it is enough of a promise to get desperate people to try... remember the sniper wolf doxing issue a few months back? Same threat, though actively telling the followers to kill and that they will be rewarded for doing so.
Censorship is censorship. Doesn't matter if it's censoring cleavage, a cameltoe, a butt, a flag, a word. Still censorship. It's not something to be accepted nor condoned. It sets a horrible example whenever you accept ANY censorship, no matter how minimal, because you are automatically giving leeway to someone to censor. You give 'em a finger today, they'll take your whole arm tomorrow. Also, if they insist it's not a big deal, why not put it back and stop arguing about it? It's not a big deal, right? So, what's the problem? Let's put it this way, next time they'll censor someone because he's black, or because he's gay, and someone complains about it, let's reply "well, it's not a big deal. Who cares, why are you making a big fuss about it? I can't do anything about it, it's not my decision". I'm caucasian and heterosexual, why should I bother? Flash news, you don't complain about censorship because it personally affects you. You complain because it's censorship. I don't know, maybe I'm tripping balls, but it seems to me like those people think censorship is not a big deal when it aligns with their worldview and morals and they'll be the first to complain the moment it hits something that they care about.
Censorship is the bane of all artist's representation for their entire concept and style be damned be cause censorship alone their messages twisted and loses all meaning to fit with the narrative agenda.... such is the likes of woke content...
The stupidest thing about censoring these outfits is that just adding an option to change the style would make everyone happy. Games have had options to slightly tweak visual elements for years, like being able to change color palettes in fighting games. The existence of one choice hasn't deleted the other, so why not give the option to pick which you prefer? It'd be a really easy fix and would satisfy the most people.
They don't care about satisfying anyone but the screaming lunatics on social media, and the journalists. This is Sony I'm talking about, not the game dev studio.
I said the same thing about the Niantic avatar BS in pokemon go. If they just added in more character body options while also keeping the original body design available, there'd be no issue.
What surprises me more is that they are so willing to be on the other side and support censorship. Clowns. They so badly need an enemy to fight. When we players just want to get rid of censorship in games.
They are just bullies. They see you crying, they laugh. They see you laughing, they look for a rock to throw at you to ruin your day. And then they try and claim they are the good people who stand for acceptance and love, and you can only have that if nobody who thinks differently is happy.
Strange these people call themselves “accepting” when they literally threaten people’s lives when they disagree or have different opinions than them. Edit-I’d also like to add how they’re going with the “it’s just a game.” “Just play the game.” After they have been calling people the worst names possible for wanting to play stellar blade and enjoying Eve’s design for saying the same thing.
Yes. Example: the very large youtube channel "FightinCowboy" called me an "unhinged moron" and deleted about a dozen of my comments because of my detailed explanation of the censorship of the Stellar Blade game in the areas of gore, clothes and the "hard R" text.
Far right and far left are both totalitarian/authoritarian extreme ideologies, with no compromises, dehumanising anyone who doesn't agree, where no means (violence, propaganda etc.) are out of the question "for the greater good", whatever they think that is
@mcdoogle_robotman That's interesting to know. I read that Sony censored or outright banned certain game (content) because of gore and/or sexuality, but had no details. Somewhere else I read that Japan is a society that's strict regarding the display of erotic / titillating content. Still somewhere else I was informed that in Japan, women and girls are clothing and behaving way more modest than in the US. All of this could be reason for Sony censoring the clothes of Eve and the gore. I am unsure how much influence the complaints from the US "game journalists" had on that decision.
Bought a physical copy, have ALWAYS had my auto update shit turned off on any app i install or any console I buy. Playing through on 1.000.00 and enjoy the original vision the Developers at Shift Up had for the game before Sony got their grubby little mitts in them. What they did to the Bunny out fit is criminal. This is why PHYSICAL MEDIA is important. I believe in Physical media supremacy
Physical v1.0 is censored also. Go to menu, go to manual, go to items, go to nano suits, push x for the second video. See if the Moutan Peony suit they show is the same as the one in your “uncensored” physical.

It's easier for them to ask 'why do you care' when they get what they want. Also can someone refresh my memory of how these people reacted when mods were put in Spiderman and Starfield to get rid of pride flags and pronouns? Did they like the censorship then?
I'm also 99% sure, that Shift Up would've never ever censored it, without Sony forcing them and here is the reason why. Nikke has some mods, that replaces characters outfits (or should i say remove the outfits) and the devs know about it. They could EASILY prevent this from happening with their anticheat, but they don't, even so they sell outfits in their shop. The SB director’s reaction and Yoko’s comment about the SIE employees in the room and their reaction is all you need to know. Sony is crap.
I can't believe that they also censored the gore effects in this game. This devalues the meaning of a mature rated game. But games like TLOU2, BG3 and multiple others get a free pass on extensive nudity, sex and violence. This is the best example for hypocrisy and double standards

It's wild to me that they are censoring a game for people who are highly likely never going to buy it or play. Doesn't sound like a winning strategy to me. All this does is give people even more of a reason not to preorder games. A company should serve its customers not journalists and lunatic mobs on social media. I don't think many of us cultured players care that much about the way Eve's low cut bunny outfit got a black piece of silk to it. However, what we DO care about is the fact that Sony bullied one group of devs into censorship while giving free passes to another. As a parent, I personally find Eve's low cut bunny suit far less problematic for an M-rated game than full blown nudity sex scenes with bears and demons ala Baldur's Gate 3. And seeing as how censorship is handled, I find there to be an element of actual racism against Asian developers involved, too, which coincidentally started the moment Sony, a Japanese company, moved to California and started taking on Western "values".
No adult needs supervision about what we can look at or play. Don't like something? Move on. Don't be surprised about backlash like this. Shift Up wanted to deliver, Sony screwed it up. That's how I look at it.
I don't understand why a MATURE rated game needs to be censored in any way. Whenever the intended target audience are supposed to be MATURE! It should be up to player at the end of the day. It's such an easy fix, but here we are tip toing around it for no fucking reason.
If this comes to PC there will be so many sexy outfits and nude mods and restoration projects it'll make Sony's head spin. Someordinarygamer had a pretty solid review btw. He talked about the story, combat, and visuals primarily, with a minor touch on the censorship controversy. Pretty good to me since I don't have a PS5, and thus no real stake here, but I was interested in the overall product.
I don't remember where i heard it, but it was like "Anything before the word 'but' is irrelevant" Really fits these people who only claim to be against censorship.
Its not as advertised, get a refund unless they change it back. Hit them where it hurts , the wallet. Sony need to stop pandering to people who are not even going to buy and play the game.
Shocking how these people feel the need to censor media that they don’t even consume most of the time. If you don’t like a piece of media for WHATEVER reason, then you don’t consume it. Whether someone else does is none of your business. It’s that simple.
The people that are pointing out the censorship reaction and immediately focusing on the outfits make me chuckle. If censorship isn’t stopped by fans and customers, I don’t want to hear those other people complain when the things they like and love are censored. Any censorship is bad censorship
so lets make a reverse situation... so if a creator made a ninja full covered body, and theres a society that hates woman in clothes, so a big company comes and they undress her, should we still respect the changes? the answer is still no you only have to respect the original creator vision (unless you can mod it for YOUR personal use)
