How do you feel about wearing your natural hair to formal events?
Today I still struggle when it’s time to choose my hairstyle. I’m slowly unlearning the conditioning and building the confidence to wear my natural hair to formal events. it starts with baby steps but in time we'll get there.
It was so hard to find a hairstyle for this wedding. Everything that popped up was for people with straight hair 🙄 (so annoying). What styles do you like to wear??
We need a series of natural hairstyles for formal events. What do you think???

Your hair is beautiful! I'm natural, but to be honest, the reason I switched to a relaxer years ago was because of convenience only. I never thought of my natural hair as unacceptable or unattractive, and I never thought about what anyone thought about my hairstyle preference. I rocked my afro and braids for years. I have 4C hair, and I have 2 daughters. I could not do hair in the mornings, and I was not going to do hair at night. Relaxers were a preference because of the convenience. Since going natural, I never wear my hair... now it's straight wigs or weaves or braids ... never just natural hair.

@@normelbrabson6925 same here. I love my hair and all but I dont have 2 hours to be styling my hair everyday. I don't want to wear wigs anymore though so I've just recently decided to go natural. Wayyy more time consuming. People who don't understand why we do what we do when it's obvious is quite annoying lol.

I'm 50, been wearing natural hair since before my oldest was born 🤷🏽‍♀️ A lot of us were doing natural but it was not popular. I see more tutorials on bust downs than I do natural hair on youtube with gen Z.

@@Cateyes767that may be true or just because there wasn’t internet back then for people to share. The main difference I would say is maybe that today more women wear straight weave vs back in the day women would just perm and straighten their own hair

I wish I could remember the child’s name there is a boy in Texas beautiful dreads he keeps in a neat bun style with the faded sides. They put him out of school demanding he cut his hair. Since he refused he’s been sent to an alternative school for bad kids. We really need to stop allowing anyone to set the standard of our beauty! Every black and brown person in the area needs to come out and stand up for this kid. Our layers coils textures and colors are so beautiful! It’s unacceptable this is happening in 2023!

Funny how people make comments and don't LISTEN to what she is SAYING. Black people were told that OUR NATURAL HAIR THAT GROWS OUT OF OUR SCALPS, WAS UGLY! She didnt bash those of us who wear weaves and other non natural hairdo's. All she is saying is black people have no reason to feel or be ashamed of our natural hair and we should wear it proudly. Listen to hear and learn! Not to just comment! That's why some comments being posted, make no sense, based on what she is saying in this video clip.

Right, the idea of only straightening our hair for “special occasions” is no longer the minimalist hair care it started out as; we have evolved to the point to say coily hair for special occasions; straightened hair is your prerogative and I don’t knock it because if it’s one thing blk women gonna do, it’s change up our hairstyle as we magical creatures do; buuuut we’re not elevating that particular style to the level of “special” anymore

There's something to be said about a whole group of people that want others to alter themselves, in order for this one group of people to feel good about themselves, and it ain't good! I hate that because of these people, back in the late sixties when the "Black is Beautiful" movement began, my mother wouldn't let me wear an Afro. James Brown even stopped wearing, what back then was called, "A Process" something that our brothers put themselves through. I hate that, until I was in my forties, I referred to hair as being "Good Hair" if one had a naturally silky hair texture. I love my hair, and now wear it in it's natural state without being concerned about what another group of people think. Just the other day, after washing and conditioning my hair, I wore my gray hair in an Afro in ALL of its natural glory.❤❤❤
