I really wish Norma never ignored the fact the Norman was sick. Everyone around her kept trying to tell her but she wouldn’t listen to the point where it ended her life. Sure she got him into PineView for like 2 weeks then she let him come home. Smh

Courtney Michelle I think that's what pissed me off the most about the situation. Norma was so ignorant and blind to how Norman really was. She loved and adored him so much to the point that it hindered her ability to see flaws in him, and even after she knew he was dangerous, remained negligent.

gta4life6996 yaaaaasssssssss!!! Both of you couldn’t have said it any better. I could write a whole thesis essay on how negligent Norma was in handling Norman. Literally everyone around her told her that he was dangerous and she chose to ignore them. She deserved to die....she reaped what she sowed.....but I do feel bad for all the other ppl Norman hurt as a result.

in the original movie which bates motel is based on, norman is mentally ill because of norma, she always said no girl was ever good enough for him other than herself, and some might say she loved him in the other way (romantically), which caused him to be too attached to her and fall for her which resulted in him killing everyone who gets to norma, and no one can have her so he kills her. the reason i think bates didn’t show how sick norma is and all is because everyone likes the actress too much and didn’t want to ruin her character

I like how they made this scene a big deal with the playing of Mr. Sandman (The song Norman and Norma sung together a lot when Norman was a child) and showing the inside of the vents with Norman shutting them. The show had been building up to this moment for a while (if you've seen Psycho you already know what happens), and viewers realize, "it's finally happening! Norman's killing Norma"

This scene gets me. Alex goes from angry and not willing to even have friendship with Norma, to being in a relationship and finally being happy, and willing to leave behind all crime and stuff, all to ultimately slaughter his happiness and leave him in devastating pain all to be murdered by her son. 😭😭

Right?!? It’s so heartbreaking. She was the one for him, he finally met his match and Norma soothed his soul and made him a better man. Norma, Alex, Dylan-they all deserved better 😢

@@thesilvershiningAmen. It's to my truest belief they are all happy in the afterlife. We all know Norma and Norman are inseparable but Norma finally found something new she needed all along- she said it herself, she will always love Romero. Now with a loving husband, and a loving father, because Romero still saved Norman's life before tragedy happened, perhaps they have what they always wanted...A happy family.

I cried so much when Norma died, because, in a way, it was as if Vera Farmiga died. She's such a sweet, wonderful, down to earth, good-natured person, that seeing someone like her die is just unacceptable. Plus her character grew on me so much that it was so tragic to see her go. I also cried when Romeo put the wedding ring back on Norma's finger when he visited her body at the morgue. Heartbreaking...😰

Norma was actually my favorite character I hated that he killed her it made me dislike Norman. His unhealthy obsession with his mother is uncomfortable to watch as well as hers towards him. But it seemed like she was protecting him more than anything she knew what he was capable of but he loved his mother in a different way maybe was even in love with her. He went as far as killing her and trying to kill himself because she loved someone else.

How perfectly this show is written that everything that happened makes total sense. Norma did everything she could to always protect and defend Norman. She crossed moral lines, she neglected Dylan, she lashed out, and even emotionally abused her family. She came from a home with such abuse and emotional baggage, was raped and violated so many times, abuse and instability was everything she knew. When she finally has something good and special with someone, she wouldn't ever, ever have seen clearly enough to fix things, even when those around her were warning her and begging her to open her eyes. Romero himself at times refused to leave her alone with Norman and I'm sure he beat himself up over it in prison after this. Her unhealthy attachment and judgment clouded by abuse, trauma and fear, ultimately led to her death and it makes perfect sense that this is how it would end up being her fate. She shunned Romero when he pushed her right before this to send him back to an institution, pushed him right out of her life over her unhealthy relationship with her son. And the worst part is, through all the abuse, irrational decisions and screaming at people, she only ever did it out of motherly love and her own experience being mistreated and abused. It all makes too much sense and thats why this scene hurt me so badly is because (I hadn't scene or heard much at all of the original movie so this episode caught me way off guard. I'm used to the comfort of tv shows never killing off their main characters.) I had nothing to really be mad at because she really did this to herself.

Best scene in the series from the best episode in the series too. Incredible that the full sequence from Norma coming home distraught right to the end takes up HALF the episode and just features Norma and Norman and for the last segment, Romero. Everything about it, from the music and acting to the visuals and editing is just absolutely phenomenal. The boiler flames morphing into the Bates Motel sign, Romero inconsolable grief, the last, haunting images of Norman and Norma splayed out lifeless on the floor in the cold, blue light, Romero's desperate CPR on Norma seemingly reviving Norman and not her and Norman's slow head turn followed by that last, broken "Mother" are just all brilliantly executed and unforgettable moments. Creepy, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking and beautiful, in short some of the best 20 odd minutes of television drama I've EVER seen.

This was my favourite part of the show thus far. From Norman and Norma talking about Hawaii, up til Norman saying, "Mother"? The tragedy was perfectly set up. The fact that his intention wasn't to murder Norma, but for them both to softly die and stay together forever, hence the name of the episode. Mr. Sandman playing while showing different still shots of the house is just haunting. The air vents shutting, sealing their fate. Then Romero breaking down over her body is utterly devastating. This is pure gold.

Everyone hates Norman but for some reason he was my favorite character. In a way you can’t blame him since he isn’t really with reality. He wanted to kill Norma and himself as a way of getting a “fresh start” which he was previously talking about with Norma, so they could be happy and together forever since the world had done them such wrong. As I see it, his heart was in the right place in some messed up way since he was insane. That or he had blacked out when he did this and it wasn’t really him. That’s what makes it so hard to judge. When he does terrible things you can hardly blame him because he can’t even remember it. If he had been treated at a younger age that could make it possible for him to lead a normal life but Norma wouldn’t let that happen and neglected him as a child which made me dislike her and definitely choose Norman over her. Everyone seems to see it the other way around so I wanted to state my opinion.

Exactly. Its not like he understands why he’s doing what he’s doing he needed serious help which he never got but in the end it cost so many people their lives. Other people in the show killed others and knew what they were doing. Norman didn’t he couldn’t even remember. Im not excusing it though he did kill people and when he was on trial he wasn’t going to jail he was going to a mental institution which he really needed to but people don’t understand that Norman wasn’t all there. On the other hand, Norma wasn’t all bad but she was messed up, she covered up her son’s murders, never got him help, was way too possessive and over protective not to mention when Norman tried to break away she’d manipulate him into doing what she wanted, Norman obviously wasn’t born with DID it happened because of his past and trauma mostly from Norma he never hallucinated anyone else, thats the problem.

It was always confusing for me: how they all just believed that Norma has committed a suicide?? I mean, shouldn’t the cops have checked the fingerprints on that heater (or what was that thing) and have a more detail view on the crime scene? Besides, Romero still was a sheriff back then so if he suspected that Norman had killed Norma he could make a more thorough investigation. I just don‘t get it.

Me too, but they didn't necessarily choose to kill her off. This show, after all, is a prequel for the movie "Psycho," and in the movie Norma is dead. I really wish they didn't brand this show as a prequel, though, and kept Norma alive. I feel like it would have made more sense for them to be a team because Norma, in my opinion, already showed signs of being mentally unstable. But, that's just my opinion.

This entire series spoke to me and resonated with me in a way that is unspeakable. The music they play in this series really portrays the show properly. When Norman killed his mother, it made me cry because my mother is still alive and she is my hero. Seeing Norman kill his own mother was a blow that I couldn't handle. Norma never really let him grow up, and that was partially why he ended up becoming a serial killer / psychotic individual. He kept the mentality of an 11 year old. Plus not to mention, he had D.I.D.(Dissociative Identity Disorder). That really took things to a whole other level. When he was a little boy, he had to kill his father to protect his mother. That was when everything clicked the wrong way. It's kind of like the show Dexter, where he saw his mother get butchered in front of him and had to sit in a pool of her blood for 2 or 3 days in a shipping cargo container. Dexter then became a serial. It became a normality for him, just like Norman Bates. This is a very sad series

Idk if I'm getting soft or what but when Alex started crying over Norma I almost balled my eyes out. Such good acting!! I really reared up cause the whole show he was so unhappy never smiled but when he was with Norma he was happy and really loved her and would only smile around her. He knew she was in danger and was helpless. Like watching some get hit by a car you know it's comin but your just seconds to late. You could really feel the heartbreak in his face. Amazing job!

MD LP13 because it was Norman’s fault. Romero only saved Norman because he didn’t think he’d lose Norma and if he let Norman die than he knew it’d devastate Norma. Romero fought and had hope he’d save Norma. I’m sure if he knew there was no chance and she was dead he’d probably would’ve left Norman in the other room to die.
