What do you think about the Normcore aesthetic? Are you a normie? Do you own any of the items listed? More importantly, answer this pressing question: Seinfeld or Friends?
I gravitated to Normcore after I became a mom. I didn't know it was its own fashion "trend" and I always thought "oh I am pretty basic and this is what basic people wear." 😂 I wanted to look put together but also be comfortable and Normcore fits my lifestyle. I also like the minimalist aesthetic, so I wanted it to be easy to put an outfit together without any hassle in the morning and make sure my wardrobe is cohesive. Yep I really like Normcore I've been dressing like this for about 9 years.
Fun video I love normcore lol After growing out of the “trying to fit in phase” I accepted just how normal and stress free I am with a simple and versatile wardrobe. Mainly consist of flannel, simple color way shoes, and denim pants but being Mexican I realized I just look Chicano 😐
Thanks for covering my favorite style trend of the past decade lol. I've dressed like this almost exclusively since my late teens LOL, still kickin the same grey new balance 515s. There's a rebellion in not trying to either desperately look y2k goth/alt or like a skater guy !
normcore is a term used in the context of a fashion trend so its not simply wearing basic and simple clothing. its an ironic take on fashion by using pieces and silhouettes more commonly associated with pedestrian clothing from people who dont pay attention to fashion trends but utilising it in a way to stand out within a more fashion conscious crowd. in the mid 2010s pieces like the dad cap really stood out when compared to what was “cool” like snapbacks or fitted caps, wide fit “dad jeans” stood out when all the fashionistas were wearing skinny jeans. i feel like this sense of irony and self awareness is what set normcore apart than just wearing essentials or basic minimalistic clothing.
Nailed it. Two people could be wearing the exact same set of clothes, but one would be "normcore", the other would just be normal. It's hard to articulate, but you just know it when you see it. As you say, it's the self-awareness of it. You can tell when someone doesn't give a shit and when someone is conciously wanting to give off that impression. It's the person defining the clothes, not the other way around.
I'm a guy who defines myself as a "basic b*tch". I am so normie that I really think norm core is important because many people aren't interested in dressing to be "the last Coca Cola bottle in the desert". I don't intend to be mean to those who are flamboyant in fashion. The thing is I am not interested in tendencies, trends, seasons, collections, fashion weeks, that Balenciaga rotted pair of shoes. I just wanna to disappear in the middle of the crowd. If I dress myself all-in-black with no accessory I hitted a target.
