Damnnn people who were middle aged in the 90s are now going through their 'estate sale' phase. Life is so short. **Edit: Did you turn all your books around the proper direction? Glad you sorted yourself out =)
I had the pleasure of watching this video after viewing "Psycho" before it left Amazon Prime. It was interesting getting a glimpse of iconic Hollywood babe Janet Leigh in a vintage bra and slip followed by your neon-clad babelicious beach bunnies. Definitely an anthropological jolt. It was also a nice surprise seeing you seamlessly reference the Joe Hill book, as I"m currently about 200 pages into his dad's magnum opus, "It." Anyway, thanks for the fluorescent fun!
I love Psycho. I've actually watched it so many times I can quote it and last year, I saw it in theaters. Admittedly, referencing Joe Hill's Heart Shaped Box was super random but I think it worked. You never know what random books I'll reference in my videos (keeps you on your toes). Love 'It" too, though I read it about 10+ years ago.
@@teresachaotic.corner Awesome! I can't remember the last time I watched "Psycho," but it's been long enough to have forgotten how that incredible Bernard Herrmann theme over the opening credits is an absolutely brilliant goosebump-inducing hook. And yes, your literary references add great spice to your videos. Love that you do that!
Some local libraries have DVD’s for sale. I’ve started a nice collection. I’ve gotten Lincoln, Life of Pi, Moonlight. Last week I found Parasite on Blu Ray for a dollar. I couldn’t believe it.
It's nice not playing games trying to find the right streamimg services and having the better video quality. As long as children aren't managing my discs, I've yet to scratch em over the years. It's also just nice being able to hold my favorite movies in my hands, knowing this copy is mine. Not a streaming service's.
I love the Witch at Blackbird Pond, i reread it often as well. One main thing I loved about it was the discussion and descriptions of food. I'm a big fan of books that had talked about food.
Theresa - Thank you for another colorful episode and a trip back in time. Once again you have presented a fun, vibrant and neon extravaganza. I was quite a bit older than you back then but my reference point for clothing styles was beverly Hills 90210! I also don't believe you'll be haunted. The ghostly previous owner will probably be pleased that you are immortalizing his attire!
These neon Memphis daydreams were out in force on the late 80's and early 90's NJ beaches, right along side the raggedy cut off shorts and threadbare band t-shirts. I'll never forget the sand in my palm tree Vans.
@teresachaotic.corner That was mid-decade though? Y2k means the year 2000. I was in high school 99-02 and no one had camera phones. It was pagers and Nokias.
The end of Physical Media will be a major blow to independent film making. With big studios basically labeling something a failure if it's not a sales success in the first week, movies and TV shows that would have been able to find a wider audience with physical media, would end up deleted because the movie didn't make half a million dollars. As for being minimalist, there are means to shrink the physical size of your collection from using Disc Sleeves to ripping your discs to a local server.
The only streaming service I have is Amazon and I only use that for the free shipping and the streaming part is just the gravy I am always popping into op shops and charity shops looking for physical media I want to watch\own
My younger brother was a hipster. Hed wear glasses with plain lenses because he didn't actually need glasses. As a person who actually needs glasses, it got under my skin.
I was playing your video… unnaturally loud… so that my husband could overhear. We’ve had some back and forth over my “dead media”. But your argument is exactly my point. There’s a point that you want to share these movies with your kids or friends that missed seeing a beloved or great film. And it’s the same for me… I’ll quote some random movie… and then it’s no where to be found. And for all his disagreement, my husband has long held onto both his original fan dubbed version of My Neighbor Totoro AND a laser disc of each Star Wars movie (and a player). The whole minimalism thing was a sham. There’s no shame in the things that you value and owning or keeping them. Living in a blank space is dystopian and some sort of psychological torture. There’s no prize at the end of this life for living up to standards that make others happy.
Looks like you have Film Noir nailed down. Have you thought about a genre mash up novel? Rom Noir? I know it seems goofy, but is it? Keep up the good work.
Physical media all the way, I have DVDs that I have had for 20 years more or less, I have over 300 and I will never give them up, they will have to wrench the from my cold dead hand figuratively speaking. All these streaming services are just a money grab and what the consumers thing doesn't matter as long as they get the money that's all they care about. I only have Amazon prime and they only reason I have that is I get free shipping when I buy something from the main store, it comes as a package and I have even bought DVDs from them. I refuse the pay for something and have nothing in my hands for the cost. Cheers.
after the terror attack in tennessee and losing internet for a while me and my wife decided to start buying used blu rays and i rip them to a home built server and stream them using jellyfin and keeping the discs safe on my shelf
I never got rid of any DVDs but I threw out all the cases and have massive CD binders full of DVD's. Its the way to declutter and still have 1000 plus DVDs at your disposal
I have been trying to get through all the videos to catch up to current. I really like the style topics. An idea for you- one on the changes in accessories. How hats gloves and scarves were the norm but now can be seen sparingly.
Wow. That's quite a cliffhanger, Teresa. Showing us that stack of your work was the highlight of this video as far as I'm concerned, especially when you describe some of your earlier work as containing "psychologically disturbed" sorts. Maybe you should employ a nom de plume so as not to mix this channel with your writing life. Or are you doing that already?!? (Come to think of it, using a pen name is sort of sociopathic in its own right, no?) 🤔
While your having to🤷♀is shrouded in ambiguity, I'm sure it would be well worth it in order for me to be able to go to Amazon or my local library and get introduced to your brainchildren. In any case, brava for that sort of output. (And nice Shakespeare/R&J recitation, btw.)👏
Teresa, I would never call you a sociopath. Semi-Sociopath, perhaps!😆Seriously, your posts are unique and thought-provoking. Who else could make a video about backward shelved books so entertaining? I'm also simpatico about your privacy. I write a blog about comic books but my online presence is scarce and I also am pretty private. I also would like to compliment yo u on your skills presenting your You Tube pieces. They also point to your skills as a writer. It all comes together. Thanks again for providing a skillful, entertaining and one-of-a-kind presentation.
I don’t know who you are (I was looking for a name, but I couldn’t find any), but despite your choices, I have to agree with you regarding saving your CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray. They are necessary! Other people have made the comments that I would’ve made here, but all I will say is that the other thing that needs to be concerned is that Physical media doesn’t last forever either. There are times when you’re going to have to replace older DVDs or Blu-ray because they won’t play. There is such a thing as DVD “rot” as they put it. Blue rays are a little more durable. So video companies really must re-issue a lot of things, and that concerns CD as well. The sad thing is you really have to hold onto your physical media, because there are times when the video companies now are never going to approach, certain movies, and even music. Just read all the comments on political correctness, and all the political garbage that seems to permeate what we love! Sure, I might even agree with some of their comments, but that’s the reason you hold onto history! Keep on trying. Keep going to DVD, Blu-ray and CD fairs and looking for things that are genuinely collectible, but think about this first - - think of what you love most! Collect only what you love most. Don’t go after stuff because somebody is hyping it on you. Walt Disney has done itself a great disservice by canceling the Walt Disney films! What a shame! You will never be able to see those again, because they will only remake them the way they want, and the earlier stuff is taboo. Think about that for a while!I don’t know you to talk to you, so I don’t know how far back in movie history you would collect, but cherish it all.
if you want relationships where people seek you out & value your time, excel in something at a masterful level. the relationships might be fake but at least there is something to do.
This is actually a good idea. I'm normally disappointed when I see youtubers' book collections because they are usually lame and predictable. Turning them backwards prevents this and leaves an air of mystery like "Maybe he/she is reading something that isn't awful."
Do not care how people keep their books, we will never be able to be in someone else “shoes” so the judgement is very revealing of the people who object, displacing their own insecurities and shortcomings onto a person who is very secure and comfortable with themselves - hoping to drag them down to their bitter and sad mental state - bitter and insecure people always telegraph their mental and emotional state online. You don’t have to explain because those people don’t deserve one. When I worked as a writer there were times of the year where I could not do any reading whether it was the local newspaper or books I loved and frequently would refer - any association with the work I did kept me in work mode and I needed a reprieve to keep my mind fresh - one solution was to purchase a shelf with doors I could close so I wouldn’t see my references books and books I loved to read. So turn your books any which way you like.
Laughed so hard. It's also my favorite time of year. I think because I live somewhere that doesn't really have seasons. I am also attracted to the macabre.
I recently passed by a bowling alley near my home. I remembered how much fun it could be. I stopped in to see how it was. It was $12.99 to play unlimited and $2 beers. I decided to hang out and people from either side and different times struck up convos. I started going every so often and someone invited me to join a league. It's the perfect social time without too much commitment.
