So currently, you could field 3 of each, taking you up to 1770 points. Add in a Hive Tyrant to bring you up to 1990 and that’s a bit of an intimidating list 😅
Reminds me of the "Oops, All Ctan" Necron list where you take a Nightbringer, Void Dragon, Deceiver, Transcendent, Tesseract Vault, and then Szarekh as your Warlord.
Yeah 285 points for the Emissary with the same melee profile as a Hive Tyrant! Literally the exact same. Now you too can wound a Dreadnought on a 5 only to watch him enjoy his 4+ ARMOUR save! I'm sure you're as excited as I am.
@@ham-mantheman-ham634 It really just doesn't make a lot of sense from any angle. Modelwise it's pretty huge and lorewise it's supposed to be the ultimate answer for difficult foes so only hitting as hard a carnifex or ht (It doesn't even get twin-linked) is a flavour fail. Then points wise it's almost equivalent to a hierodule (305 for either variety). A hierodule has similar durability (+1t and +2 wounds but no invuln or obj fnp), their shooting is better/comparable (They've each only got 1 gun profile but damage outputwise they are better than the emissary's equivalent choice). Hierodules hit with 8/10A WS3 S14 AP-2 D3+3 in melee, losing out only on WS but the higher D and S averages to better output against vehicles/monsters.
I think it’s very meta dependent. If there is a bogeyman in the meta that you can sic the norn emissary on it will be good, if elite armies are meta the objective ability will be good, but against horde meta it will suck. Very hard to kill, though.
Models are stunning but the rules are below average especially the Norn Emissary 6 strength 9 attacks it’s literally a 285 point hive tyrant!? WTF GW? the assimilator hits like a regular dreadnought but yet it’s twice the size nearly. Seriously needs to be FAQ’d
Feel like they should have given the assimilator a base feel no pain or fights first seeing it’s a big beserker bug and assimilator better melee, bit daft to me it’s barely hitting harder than a power fist with those massive talons. Would help toward them both filling offensive and defensive roles instead of both being good in one role but not good enough in both. I’m casual trash so my take may be shit and I’mma still run it and have a good time with it, but I fear for it when my mates Custodes come along and recreate the scene from the book but I reckon I’m going to struggle to take down multiple Custodes like it did in lore.
Running an Assimilator forward with a Hive Tyrant and a Scythed Hierodule to dominate the midfield seems terrifying. The Hierodule sweeps the hordes, the Tyrant provides FNP, and they’re all very durable and can annihilate a Battleline. My Nidzilla lists need some of these… The Emissary is awesome as well. Love the flexibility and dependability of those psychic shots, and a 4+ Invuln is awesome, especially with a 4+ FNP against mortals.
I feel like he is a tough sell compared to the TFex. For the cost of 2 of these you get 3 Tfexes. Imo the 3 Tfexes will bring more value in almost every game.
fexes bring no value to any game because theyre bad. hitting on 4s is awful. their T and Ws are low. no invuln save. bad ranged attacks. theres zero reason to use fexes.
@@scolack123 oh my bad i thought he meant carnifex. although tyrannofex did get a huge nerf losing -1 damage. but theyre still alright. haruspex, endocrine, and maleceptor are still the main big bads for tyranids though IMO.
I'm really disappointed. Thought more for a titan-like melee profile, but nope. For the point costs I also stay with my carnifex. Better melee output and lower costs.
God damn, one of these cost less than as a squad of Sanguinary Guard. xD But yeah I do like that the designs have a clear difference in Offense vs Defense.
Honestly the damage output is a little disappointing, especially when you compare them to other centerpiece models, like Abaddon or the Silent king. I'm still getting one because they look awesome, but I do hope they get a small buff in the future. I'm probably gonna build mine as an Emissary, since it fits so well with Hive fleet Kronos' background.
Yeah embarrassing output for what's toted to be like pointing a finger of death against something. S9 in combat, really? And even the Assimilator's big melee attack wounding knights on 5's, wtf?
Interesting unit. I usually run twin Heirodules, and to be honest I feel the Scythed Heiro will still be better than the Assimilator for the same points. The Emissary looks like a very useable & tanky unit to throw at death stars though, I'll be trying one out.
Think I'm gonna go with the Emissary, that 4+ invuln is VERY valuable even with the reduced AP in 10th. Also that FNP for mortals can be extremely powerful against some factions. The melee isn't super great, but I think this model works well as a big distraction, the longer it takes to kill, the better.
@@ChristopherFreitas-l9e I mean, I think it would be more of a fight that you think, yes the knight would have the size advantage but the assimilator would definitely give it a run for it’s money. It wouldn’t win 9/10 but I’d say the knight ain’t walking away without some serious damage
@@Philshaw02 yeah I get ya, it's one of the best the nids can put forth for melee. Against a melee dedicated knight, Cerastus or another, it would get obliterated.. I play nids myself, I'm just upset because when they revealed this model for the first time, i thought it would be more on par with a knight, both size and threat wise. For the points it cost, I don't see it getting played much at all. At least not competitively
This strat for the norn is nice in Nexus detachment Override Instincts - 1CP WHEN: Your Movement Phase TARGET: One TYRANIDS unit from your army that is within Synapse Range of your army and made a Fall Back move this phase. EFFECT: Your unit is eligible to shoot and declare a charge this turn.
the Assimilator has me down a little, I hoped we got something on par with a primarch or a greator daemon or alike a sweep and a strike profile with the stike being atleast str 14 or 16
its so dumb that they introduce the big new threat by making it fail just stop making it face imperials if you need to make something look cool if you cant make anything imperial ever lose anything
It just seems really off to me that the emissary’s melee profile is the exact same as the hive tyrant’s, except it doesn’t have twin linked on it’s heavy attack profile. Makes me wonder if it was a typo. As is it could really use an increase in at least one of its stats to set it apart, either more attacks, more strength, more ap or more damage. Or have the talons and claws be a strike and sweep profile (talons got harder but with fewer attacks, claws with way more attacks that are light) rather than combined attacks
Yeah 285 points for the Emissary with the same melee profile as a Hive Tyrant! Literally the exact same, but worse bc no twinlinked. Now you too can wound a Dreadnought on a 5 only to watch him enjoy his 4+ ARMOUR save! I'm sure you're as excited as I am.
Psychic is ALWAYS a negative keyword tell me one benefit from this keyword and Tyranids have more of it then most factions. so thees guys cost similar to Knights yet lack the bulk and damage of a knight? who balanced this
At first the price held me to one then I realized how many Tyranid models cost 50 to $100 and may go ahead and bite the bullet and build both versions (I rather dislike the magnet thingy). Once again a good presentation here.
i want to see if this model can win the tournament. all i can see now is Aeldar if not Imp Titans. if tyranids can't win even with the new codex and monster.. then this mean those monster are just useless against the current Meta.
think in most match ups emissary with the 5+fnp and oc15 going to be most compettive. tho if u run assimilator i would probably take the reroll wounds.just flexing into there strenghts at that point. I think in most matches up oc 15 on a very hard to shift monster will be useful vs assimilator going full dmg sometimes there just wont be anything to hunt. to bad assimilator cant get advance and charge from the stealth detachment it kind of looks and feels like it belongs with them as the apex hunter of assassin creatures and the somewhat massive lictor vibe it has with the hooks.
Looking forward to using an Emmisary, Acidfex, and Maleceptor to jam up the midfield in my generalist list Honestly surprised the Assimilator costs more points
the assimilator is better. it should cost more points. look at the damage difference in the melee profiles. the assimilator does way more damage than the emissary. All the emissary gets is a 4+ invuln and a slightly better ranged attacked.
@@alfred8936 no I just underrate the norn emissary. the norn emissary's attacks are wimpy for 285 points. its not very good for its points cost. id rather take a maleceptor and a haruspex for the same points. if i had to choose between the assimilator or the emissary the assimilator is much better. The extra damage is better than the 4+ invuln, because if you kill enemies they cant attack you back, and thats more valuable than a 4+ invuln.
@@alfred8936 Well said there tbh, even on weaker models, like broodlord, genesteaeler, etc, an invul save is a godsend at times and will save your model alot of wounds.
So in terms of using them in game, the Assimilator seems more like a high-value wrecking ball, and the Emissary can be used like an expensive distraction carnifex, with its lower cost and greater durability.
@@samadams8533 has much much better melee, similar ranged aoutput as the neurolance if your in range to hit, and has much more consistent charges, plus if you put it in reserves it can get a 7' charge from reserves.
@@jayrpg9114 GW doesn't know their own game and it shows in the point costs. Surviving on an objective is what wins games consistently, not hail Mary charges from reserves.
Tried to preorder one of these alongside some other of the new stuff, but apparently the website decided to break on me; I have a payment record from paypal but no confirmation mail of my order. Which just absolutely blows.
I think it should hit a bit harder honestly, the feeling I got from these when they were hyped up was that they were supposed to basically be the “primarch” of the Tyranids, but I guess not, for how big and complex they are I wish they did something else besides “sit on objective” or “kill one dude really good”.
To me it seems the Emissary is going to be better for the simple fact it is way more survivable while also being a bit cheaper. The assimilator as a huge melee damage potential but it is difficult to deliver. If it can benefit from the 4+ invulnerable save strat for synapse creatures then it can be a viable choice
Wow so glad I didn't pre-order these. what a crock of shit. The same melee profile as a hive tyrant, which is already considered overcosted despite its awesome special rule. 2 short range lascannon shots and some pretty shitty durability rules? And 305 for the no invuln assimilator? XD I wish this was a joke but it's not. I honestly wish they had gone full toned down dmg this edition with nothing that easily wipes vehicles and big monsters in one turn but sadly its business as usual with some having and others not. Compare this thing with a fire prism. Hell, compare this thing to a leman russ with a demolisher cannon! And you have to run this boy across the board while those can do their work from a range. More of the same from games workshop. What a disappointment
