Lines: Green Line and Orange Line
Hello and Bonjour! This trip report is a bit different from the trip reports I usually do because instead of being about aeroplanes, it's about a metro system. Particularly the Montreal Metro, which I consider the best metro system in North America that I had the pleasure to have ridden. Also I have updated my channel's intro.
Intro Song: Red Velvet (IRENE & SEULGI) - Monster

For those who are interested, I have a video out now on Montreal's REM. You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0_sMrtFogM8.html

Great report! I love the Montreal Metro, definitely the most FUN system I've ridden in North America, especially given the Star Trek-esque trains and architecturally distinct stations

While the Azur trains are great, a true taste of the Montreal Metro comes from riding the Blue Line with its old-fashioned MR-73 trains. It is the metro I grew up on, which the distinct "dah-dah-DAAAAAH" coming from the motors and pokey 70's era interiors.

Between 2023 and 2025, the REM line (formerly denoted as Line 3 - Red) will open. It will be the first metro line in Montreal to have air-conditioned trains, and the services will be noted as A, B, and C. Rem de l'Est (which is planned to open in the mid-2030s) will replace lines 6 and 7, which were cancelled in the mid-1980s along with line 3.
@mikeamber2528
@mikeamber2528 Год назад
The REM isn't a part of the actual Montreal metro, it's a separate system that won't be managed by the STM.
@benoitgratton5829
@benoitgratton5829 Год назад
@@mikeamber2528 The fares are integrated and there are transfer stations, so to the average user, it will not make a difference that the STM and REM/CDQP are two separate operators

Hello from Montreal. What we learn when we move here is, where to stand at each metro station, either to one end or another, or in the middle, or (standing at the spot that is going to get you as close to a staircase at the next station as possible), which corresponds to where you wish to get off at your next station. I use this system of where to stand whenever I use the Metro. There are specific cars you stand for (on the platform). You tend to learn how many cars back from either end, that put you right on a staircase at the next station. Because the stations are different, where you stand changes, depending on where you are going. It is a useful lesson to share, once you know your way around, you tend to optimize your trip, instead of walking from one end of the station or the other to get to a staircase or an elevator. (Speaking of elevators) They are adding them to many stations that don't have them. This is an ongoing project across the system. They are also renovating the stations adding either elevators or tunnels (i.e. Vendome Metro Station) Over the past few years they have added a good number of elevators for access for those who need them. And with the REM coming online in the coming months - that is going to add an entire new dimension in getting around the island as well as off island access by rapid transit. Great video by the way. A lot has changed in the Metro System in 20 years. Merry Christmas from Montreal. (where it is -7c and snowing at this hour !!!)

Some metro stations are more beautiful than others. Among my favourites are Vendôme, Villa Maria, George Vanier, Charlevoix.

The reason why the door is jard to open is because when the metro arrive in the station is make a pression. So to make sur that the door will not open with the pression it s very heavy

It comes down to Montreal, Toronto, and Mexico City for NA's best system. Also, Montreal Metro is very safe at all times.
@Skyfoogle
@Skyfoogle Год назад
I would say NYC is the actual winner. not as clean or modern as canadian systems but has 24/7 service, express lines, and 472 stations along 400 km of track. it's the true lifeblood of the city.
@josefmuglia6524
@josefmuglia6524 Год назад
@@Skyfoogle Do you realize that the MTA is still using 1935 signaling technology. If you watch RU-vid front windows or front cabs, you can see how run down these tunnels are.
@Skyfoogle
@Skyfoogle Год назад
@@josefmuglia6524 not as run down as the CDMX metro, which looks nice superficially, but is marred with a plethora of structural and engineering problems. as for the canadian systems, while in a much better state of repair, are also comparatively tiny and only serve a small minority of their city's population.

Well I haven't been on the Toronto Subway or the Mexico City Metro so I can't really judge them vs Montreal.
@moon993
@moon993 Год назад
@@Skyfoogle As for the NYC Subway, I've been on it and it is run down and dirty but compared to Montreal, it certainly offers more services so I'll give it that. Though in terms of rider experience, I definitely prefer the Montreal Metro.

Nice video, just wanna point that you forgot to give credit for the thumbnail photo that technically belongs to me! On another note, by 2025, the STM is aiming at making 30 stations fully accessible, making it almost 50% fully accessible, as for the swinging doors, with the current work being done at some stations, most if not all the doors are currently being switched with motorized doors to make it easier to open them! The reason why they are hard to open is due to the piston effect caused by the trains leaving and entering the tunnel at high speeds. Apart for the butchering of the station's names (which in your is quite inevitable since you're from the states) id say this is a very solid and very well made video! One last thing to point; clean your camera lense, it's gonna make your clips looks way better! 😉

Depends on whether Kinshasa could actually be called French-speaking, if so, it's bigger than even Paris, and then Montreal is the third-largest French-speaking city.

Toronto moves more people in one day than ,Montreal does in 3 days , Toronto is been awarded best North American Transit many times.It is going to take the prize again , due to the new Ontario line . We are Canada's largest city .We took that away from Montreal and Toronto's is much more handicap friendly .

@@josephforest7605 You sound like so many other people in Toronto who feel this city is the so-called "center of the universe", when in fact, Toronto has a massive image problem and always feels the need to be in the spotlight. God forbid anyone has anything better than Toronto, or something Toronto doesn't have at all, because this city starts whining and crying and begging for attention.
