Do they only allow tourists in Pyongyang? I have seen 10 different videos on tourists visiting North Korea and so far it has only been in Pyongyang.

@@mishalkhan8151 Almost all of the time they only allow tourists in Pyongyang in the same specific locations everytime. Though I swear I remember seeing a reporter and tourists to go the a ski resort outside of Pyongyang

It all depends on the time of year you travel there. Hell, you can even run a marathon in Pyongyang if you travel there during that part of the season. But the statues, the monuments, the history with the border, the underground metro, etc.. That is all definitely typical stops of the tour. However, and I repeat, depends of what time of year you travel there and they will show you some different things.

Are you the same people? I mean, do you look at North Korean people and you say "these men and women are part of my people, just forbidden to say so"?

André Emanoel they are one people, but they were separated after the Korean War. Now they have become quite different because of the decades of separation. North Korea is more traditional and sticks to its roots of old Korea. While South Korea is modernised and western, adopting some culture and words from the west. Reunification is still possible tho, it’s not too late

As time drags on it will become harder for reunification to become a reality , without military conquest .

I think that, that was a typical North Korean guides response. They won't and can't express what they think so you have to read between the lines of what they say. So yes, a visitor can see what is indeed real and what is being put on for show.

There is a tone of exceptionalising North Korea in this doco. Why doesn’t he ask why 40% of people in the USA are living in poverty? I've actually seen an anti-american "ad" from north korea. It was showing what could have been the aftermath of a homeless shelter after a bad blizzard. The Red Cross was there giving out free coffee and the whole "ad" was heavily emphasising "how poor the the Americans are" and how "the Americans used snow to make their coffee because they do not have any water" and said they only drank snow coffee. They try to paint a picture of America as a poor place riddled with poverty that doesnt have anything and a place that's worse than them

My thoughts exactly. A documentary where every single video footage is checked before you leave (and erased if not convenient) is NOT a documentary. It ends up being pure propaganda, even if the initial intent is to report.

I've actually seen a video on RU-vid where a North Korean journalist (I think he was North Korean although he may have been chinese, I can't remember right now) goes to some smaller North Korean villages and secretly films ppls live there. The children are starving, frail and have light coloured hair bc they're so malnourished. You can see the children picking up scraps of food off the floor and going around where ppl are eating and seeing if any food has fallen on the floor. In fact there were a bunch of North Korean soldiers stationed there and they were eating their measly ration for the day and just ignoring the starving children. They aren't allowed to give them food or acknowledge them. It's a crazy video.

I've been to North Korea and there were plenty of North Koreans in the subway then too. From what I experienced they actually have too little public transport, so naturally the subway would be crowded. (edit): Just think about it. A city with 2,5 million people and only 16 subway stations. It's a bit ridiculous...

What I was pointing out was maybe they are all working but must show up for their second job during the day which is showing the outside world that they are all doing fine. Between the hours of X and X when the international press are about the city they have to walk around the streets, look happy and also use the subway to show how wonderful it is. I wouldn't be surprised if they only use it between a certain time of the day when the press are there. Outside of that they walk or take the bus.
