Correction: it was an Italian cartoon that contracted SEK studios to co-produce it. They actually co-produced a lot of cartoons for Mondo TV, including a series that rips of the Lion King, Jungle Book, and Cinderella all at once

Fun fact: it was again contracted by an italian agency in 2018/19 to make a cartoon based on a famous 60s/70s singer, Adriano Celentano. The result is "Adrian - La Serie Evento" a TV series that happened during 2019, and was memed a lot.

Yep. The film was co-produced and distributed by Mondo TV. Mondo TV actually has a LOT of bizarre movies and series that were made alongside SEK Studios, and I'm pretty sure they're all part of the same cinematic universe too. Another fun fact: SEK Studios also made Squirrel & Hedgehog (that one series filled with North Korean propaganda, with the fox lady that's part of the American-represented wolves). ANOTHER fun fact: Legend of the Titanic isn't even the ONLY animated Titanic movie with Italian production. Titanic: The Legend Goes On (that's the one with the rapping dog) is also made by Italians, produced by Titanic Cartoons SRL Roma and released a year after Legend of the Titanic.

Yeah. Both of them are insulting. And I think that an animated movie on the Titanic would be amazing. Grave of the Fireflies is an animated film on WWII, and that movie was amazing. And then you have Valiant, an insulting movie with the pinnacle of fart jokes. So if the animated Titanic movies handled the tragedy that is the Titanic, it would have been amazing. But alas, it doesn’t happen. The only good Titanic film is the live action movie that lasts for 3 hours.

Mondo used to work with Japan and make wonderful cartoons. I still remember Zorro, Robin Hood, Christopher Columbus, Sandokan, and the Cinderella and Snow White series. Then somehow they started working with North Korea and things went downhill.

7:20 I think it's important to mention quite a few things here: 1. Orcas were not usually whaling targets, those were mainly bowhead whales and sperm whales 2. Orcas are honestly way more of a threat to sharks than sharks are to them. Great white sharks have been known to completely abandon an area for up to two years if they see an orca in it 3. Orcas actively hunt other whales such as humpback and grays so it doesn't make sense for them to be concerned about whale safety Sorry I'm just a huge whale nerd and these things annoyed me a little bit

I thought North Korea did all the dirty work (probably because their labor is cheap) and the main mastermind behind all of this was Italian guy named Orlando Korradi. Although sequel of this movie "Tentaclino" feels pretty much like North Korean propaganda with it's message being "let unite under our glorious leader and live isolated from the rest of the world for the rest of our lives".

Kinda feels like this review is less so a review of how batshit insane it is and moreso “North Korea made it, that makes it bad.” It’s a poorly dubbed movie about jailhouse sharks and a puppy octopus causing a historical disaster. I don’t think there’s any links to Korea in it, just a lot of questionable writing and probably drugs. Don’t judge a movie from where it’s from but it’s content and all that

I'm italian, and I must say that this movie is nothing but the top of the iceberg of awful italian animation movies commissioned to the studio SEK by the "MondoTv" publisher/producer. There are a lot, and I mean A LOT of other shitty movies like that; I for example have at home an Aladdin and a Lion King ripoff, and one about Christopher Columbus where a fucking woodworm tells him that the planet is a sphere and other weird stuff (and I may have some others movies as well, I'm not sure) And don't even get me started on the whole Adrian story, that's a whole different (yet incredible) rabbit hole!

Also the fact that this movie was made around the time when North Korea was desperately asking for food aid because they were having a really deadly famine at that time. It was also a time when North Koreans could illegally obtain foreign pieces of media easily from places like China and South Korea before the Kim regime started cracking down on bootleg copies that were smuggled into the country.

I read an interesting thing once; That The Founding Leader of North Korea Kim Il Sung was born the day the Titanic Sank. This in turn was used by North Korean propaganda as a prophetic sign that the Star of the West (here being the Titanic) perished and the Star of the East (Kim Il Sung and his Dynasty) arose. Basically the pinnacle of Western Civilization being the Titanic and thus with its sinking and the birth of Kim Il Sung it would now be the True Korean people who would take over as the guiding hand of world destiny. How much of this mythology got into the film I'm unsure as I've not seen it but still.

To make everyone feel better, here are some facts about the Titanic and other boats: the oldest boat is just a log cut in half with the inside carved out. The Titanic was NOT a Cruise ship, she was an Ocean Liner. Despite the oldest surviving boat in existence is from Egypt, they could have been used as early as the beginning of society. The ship that rescued the survivors of the Titanic was Called Carpathia (even if she sank too several years later but still). Titanic's sister ship Olympic never sank. The Queen Mary hotel in long beach is made of a real ship. The only surviving ship fron the Titanic's line is Nomadic

Actually, the Titanic was a Royal Mail Ship, hence why it's called the RMS Titanic. A Royal Mail Ship's main goal is to ship mail between different countries. However the Titanic had different amenities that allowed for it to be used as an ocean liner, carrying passengers.

I remember this movie. I recall Channel Awesome reviewed this at one point. the SEK studios belonging to North Korea is a new thing though, thanks for that. I think everybody lived in this movie. Moonbeams? Seriously? A few centuries ago, it was believed that the moon gave off beams of light like the sun. It was also believed that insanity was caused by being struck by an errant moonbeam (we get the term lunatic, or looney, from Luna the Latin term for moon). Of course, today, when we think we're seeing the moon shining we're actually seeing the sun reflecting off the moon from the other side of the earth.

According to experimentation and general expertise of sailors, you actually don't want to wait for the ship to go below the water before diving in. Yes it means more time in freezing water, but the ship going under also creates a suction effect that'll drag you down with it. So it's best to get off the Titanic before the stern goes under. Mythbusters even did an episode on it a while back.

Savantics, if you are able to access a subtitled version, you might be interested in a live action "Titanic" inspired North Korean feature film released under the English title "Souls Protest" (2001). It was apparently a large budgeted production intended for international export. No big surprise that this last ambition did not pan out too well. I still find it very interesting, however.

Here's one unsettling fact: Kim IL Sung, the first (Supreme) leader of N.Korea, was born the same time the Titanic sank. Apparently, the North Korean people were told that the Man of Liberation (Kim IL Sung) was born while the Western world paid the price for allowing colonization to happen (Japan was inspired by British imperialism and wanted to replicate that, so it colonized much of Asia). Believe it or deny it, it's just one of many surreal things preached to North Koreans as a part of the brainwashing campaign.

Fact: the Titanic was not the first of her kind, she had a little known sister ship called Olympic. Olympic worked from 1911-1935 and was subsequintly scrapped. She served in WW1 and destroyed a german submarine

The Titanic hits a iceberg in the middle of the freezing ocean. And when the lights go out on the ship as it's sinking, you can hear the steel of ship screaming and groaning. And the passengers screaming as they're falling and drowning. But from all of the sounds, all you see is pitch black darkness as the ship disappears into the early morning. And let's not forget about the passengers trapped inside of the Titanic as it sinks over 12,000 feet to the bottom of the ocean. But what could be more scarier then all of that? 🤔😲WHAT!? There's two tiny cats on board the gigantic Titanic?! OH MY GOD!!!! THE HORROR!!!!

I honestly feel like the social divisions in this movie are more realistic. The rich will be on the top deck and the lower classes will be on the bottom. The actual titanic movie feels like a dramatized romance movie using the event to make it even more of a tragical movie.
