Was in Dublin Airport that night. Was magic. Lost my mates, ran out of money, no mobile phones back in them days, had to walk about 4 or 5 miles home. But wouldn't change it for a thing.
I was listening in from London to RTE on medium wave so it kept fading in and out. I was leaping around like an idiot when I heard Quinn had scored - I just assumed it was Niall. It was a double blow when I twigged it. Still, it all worked out in the end. RIP big Jack - lovely man.
Denmark were still a formidable side with the two laudrups and schmeichel . Although they got to the euros by default , they were a golden generation in the 90s
Extreme bitterness from the Loyalists after this match, so much so that they felt the need to carry out the Loughinisland massacre inside in the Heights Bar, during the Ireland vs Italy world cup game. You'll never beat the Irish. RIP.
Kekistani nationalist NORTHERN IRELAND isn't British at all,how fuckin difficult is it for ye to understand,Britain consists of England Scotland and Wales it DOES NOT include northern Ireland that's just part of the UK for the time being.......
Ruairí Ó Sé He's technically correct. 'Ireland' can be used geographically, i.e. the island of Ireland, and politically, i.e. the official name of the country sometimes called 'Republic of Ireland' is simply Ireland. It can be used to mean both things, or one of either. And I can't really blame him for saying it on that night, because that NI home crowd did not come off as sympathetic to anything Irish or holding any affinity for Ireland. They came off as hostile and hateful. You'd have probably had a better time of it in most foreign countries on that night. On that night the NI crowd came off as one of the most foreign of all.
Le Mondial. Everybody wants to be there. Many great players never get there. Hadnt see Keane's reaction before this. Shows what it means to even the biggest stars.
30 years ago.. .Are the scenes with the crowd back home watching the game in Fallons pub in the Coombe, Dublin? (edit - it is indeed Fallons, just saw the exterior shot)
@@derryboyomany Catholic lads in that team so your reason is flawed. It’s more so that they’re professional footballers and want to win every game they play in regardless.
+Mark Kenna There had been a couple of bombings the week before the match, one of which took place on the Shankill Road, near the stadium. A few months later loyalists gunned down a bar full of people watching ROI's game against Italy in the World Cup, just a few months before the ceasefires. So, it was a very tense time.
hash king Because English teams would never use that rule no? Or was I dreaming watching an irishman lifting the cricket World Cup last year? You wouldn’t have a football, cricket or rugby team if it wasn’t for the commonwealth.
maybe now in light of brexit its time you and your kind should fuck off back to the slums of eastern europe, youre nothing but a disgrace to europe anyway
The depths of their bigotry was terrible. Such deeply offensive songs as Sweet Caroline and Freed from desire. The hatred they showed towards Republic of Ireland fans when the two met was terrible wasn't it. No, wait, hang on I believe they partied and shared the honour of the freedom of Paris. There is something indeed very satisfying when people who have formed a prejudiced opinion of their own have that opinion completely and totally undermined by the actions of the people they claim are bigots.
Bit of joke how half the roi team are English does my head in even today too many English players and there still crap why not play our crap Irish players
You are wrong Darren, I have family who moved to the UK in the 40s and 50s and like an awful lot of people their children retained an Irish identity. When they came to us on holiday over the years they always said they felt they were home when they arrived at the Irish ports and Dublin Airport. You can be reared in the UK but your upbringing will allow you to follow your head or your heart. Alan McLaughlin RIP
