The best time of year to see the northern lights in Iceland is the end of September or End of March. They can easily be seen from Reykjavik. But driving to remote locations away from light pollution is recommended.
Aurora Borealis happens all year around. Especially around the poles. It just so happens that they are only visible in the dark. And Iceland has plenty of darkness. The visibility is greatly affected by the sun's activity levels and geomagnetic storms. Check out this video to find out why.
Join me on a hunt for the perfect aurora borealis photo.
Here is the app from the video to forecast the Northern Lights. Iceland Ringroad, for Android. No affiliation. It is just good. Apparently not available for iPhone.

Thank you. Me too! It's been bad weather ever since I shot this. I may have jinxed the Northern Lights for everyone in South East Iceland. I'm going to drive into the country side this weekend and next week until I get something.

Perfect. I'll be there in a little over a week. Fingers crossed we will be able to see them. 🤞

Nice! The weather has been so bad since I posted this video that it is bound to be absolutely awesome by the time you get here. Regression towards mean. :) If not, just be prepared to drive some distance late evening. Be careful and have a great trip. :)

Thank you 😊I don't have an iPhone I'm afraid. But I shall borrow an iPhone for next season and finish that series. I didn't get enough footage last time to create the series I promised 😊

Did you get any videos or photos for this series? I saw the aurora from the plane in late October my first trip in 2015, then came for the midnight sun in 2021 (I even did the Midnaetur Hlaup half-marathon) so obviously couldn't see them then. I hope I can see them this year!

No I'm going to try again this season. Last season did not go according to plan for me 😊 I've always wanted to see them from a plain. I'll be flying from Dublin at night on October. Hopefully I'll see them then.

Love your vids, is very informative. Only suggestion is please tone down the music because it was difficult to hear what you were saying. Late Sept/ early Oct of 2022 here I come.

Yea it was a bit loud. It's not a good idea to onlyn use headsets when editing. You become numb to the end result. Thanks for the tip 👍have a great tip 😊

@@TimeWarpIceland ignore her Karl. Check out her video, she shouldn't be giving advice.

The advice was solid. If I ignore it I won't improve. I happen to also agree with it. When I played back without headset. Don't worry about it crying. It wasn't personal.

It's cloudy for the next week. At least near Reykjavík so hopefully we are getting that out of the way! Is it hard to find on Instagram? I need to look into that. instagram.com/timewarpiceland/

@@TimeWarpIceland we are coming at the end of the month, if we don't see the lights this time it gives us even more reason to return (4th trip, 5th already booked 🤪 ). I think it is my WiFi, it's only bringing up a handful of pages when I search for things - the link worked so you have one more follower!
@TimeWarpIceland
@TimeWarpIceland 3 года назад
@@karenaerynhenney1259 Awesome! Thank you :) If you take one thing away from this video, it should be that you are coming to Iceland at the exact right time to see the Northern Lights. Be prepared to stay up late, watch the cloud forecast and drive to where it should be clear sky. And please, share your results with me. I am very interested to know how it goes :)

@@TimeWarpIceland I really hope so, my daughter is desperate to see them! We are staying in Selfoss for 2 nights then Reykjanesbær so we have some options! I will be sure to share with you if we are fortunate enough to catch them. Now to figure out how to use the camera settings on my phone...
@TimeWarpIceland

@@karenaerynhenney1259 Oh yes, that is the question. I will cover that in my next video. Or at least that is the plan. Make sure you get a tripod. And that your phone can do long exposure.
