Canadian music was so cool in the 80s.

they opened for bowie once. they had three lead singers -- this guy was on bass -- he does look alot like emilio estevez ! this is one of their best ones. sad innocent song, really. totally sums up small-town canadian life in the 80's

This song kicked ass when it first came out and still holds up....I remember being SO disappointed when I heard She Ain't Pretty later on.....

Actually, it's Merl Bryck on lead vocals. Now that he is no longer with the Pikes, Jay Semko sings this one when they perform it live. He (Jay) also sang lead on it long before it ended up on the Pikes debut album, but the version that the fans know from the video, album, single, and most tours (except recently since Merl left) is with Merl Bryck singing lead.

Glen Royer here, just want to say that the Northern Pikes were THE band of the day hands down!!! they got signed on the strengh of their great live show and the catchy songs, case closed. They were and still are in my opinion one of the BEST bands to ever come out of Canada and for me personally ( and i am sure i speak for most if not all of the members of Greenhouse and New Concept) were an inspiration for our OWN live performances and songwriting back in the day.Thank you guys, your still #1

so true. The guitar sounds amazing when it adds the odd riff here and there, too

Great Band , Weren't They ?! Good New Canadian Sound in the mid 80's....Got The "lime Green" Edition of their following album wich was recorded live in a studio... (this means that the final take of each songs that you get on this album was played as it is in studio) later sound is polished and then Pressed on tape... By the way "Things I do for Money" should be a canadian classic..Wonderfull Guitar Sound from those Yamaha Twin Effect Amplifiers...great vid by the way.

I have always loved this song. I saw them live, opening up for Peter Frampton many years ago and I thought they sounded really good. I am also surprised they were never really heard of outside of Canada. BTW, the lead singer in this video always reminded me of Emelio Estevez in the Breakfast Club. Just saying...

Jay Semko on vocals. I get a kind of creepy sad feeling whenever I hear these guys. One of the best Canadian bands, but never got as big as they deserved to. The 80's and 90's had so many great Canadian talents. I may be out of touch, but who do we have now?

@enialbsitruc Thanks for the review. I grew up with them, but didn't appreciate them then. I love them now, though. I grew up in Montreal where many great Canadian singers, songwriters and bands have emerged, but I think I can understand how it nuar feel when something great emerges from your home town regardless of its size.

@themiff I do remember seeing their She Ain't Pretty video on The Nashville Network in the early 90's,but Northern Pikes had so much more deeper material than that.

Cool song, first time I heard it - before I realised what the title was - I was trying to work out who 'Gene Landau' was

I seen them a few times in clubs. They never got "respect" because their live shows had poor vocal quality. I love the pikes don't get me wrong. They just didn't get it done live... and it cost them.
