@Tobberoth
@Tobberoth Месяц назад
@@thanosdakilla9672probably because an expected tip in canada is 10%, maybe up to 20% for fantastic service. In the US, the expected tip is at least one annual salary, two if the server didn't spit in your food.
@hawkrivers-garrett9315
@hawkrivers-garrett9315 Месяц назад
This is simply incorrect. Unless it's a more specific regional custom, in Ontario 15% is recognized as the baseline expected at any sit down restaurant where you're served, with some restaurants trying to normalize 18%.
@thanosdakilla9672
@thanosdakilla9672 Месяц назад
@hawkrivers-garrett9315 Say what you want. I live in America close to the border of BC, and the Americans tend to leave a higher tip than the Canadians. There are exceptions, but in general, this is my experience. I'm not drawing any data from anywhere except what my tables leave me.

I work in a kitchen and I’m 99% sure I know what happened here. When someone orders a scheduled pickup through Uber Eats that ticket (as NL guessed) does not print until a set time before the order is due (usually 15-20 minutes). But the restaurant can’t even see that it’s there in the system until that time, so if they go to turn off Uber Eats if they get busy, or if their schedule is set up to close Uber Eats at certain hours (during their regular dinner rush, generally 6:30-7:30) NL’s ticket would have still been there, and they would have no idea. When it printed (or, more likely, showed up on a KDS screen) the chef likely said “well, we have a full dining room and Uber Eats is not supposed to be on so I can’t make this right now.” And then he made all of the other orders, cleared all of the tickets in front of him, NL got his notification and the ticket disappeared from the screen in the kitchen, so the kitchen assumed they had made it. Had he called the restaurant instead of using Uber Eats they would have told him that his food would likely not be ready until around the time he actually got it, but there would have been less confusion for all involved.
@androart1817
@androart1817 Месяц назад
Could’ve also been an incompetent employee gave his order to someone else. I work with just eat but we’re more of a cafe so we don’t get it that bad. But sometimes we get a few at a time at busy hours and if we turn off Uber and/or just eat we get a call from our area manager so maybe their manager has strict rules on that
@Lynxiro
@Lynxiro Месяц назад
Weird that there is no scheduled pickup flag for the orders to show up on the restaraunt system. I would have expected uber eats to shift the responsibily to of having the otder ready on time to the resteraunt instead of holding off on the order and just sending a normal order and hoping it will be ready on time based on the estimates.

@TrinityEcho
@TrinityEcho Месяц назад
I can understand automatic closing of the ordering system during peak hours, but I don't get why the system is programmed to not display/prioritize orders made hours in advance. Otherwise what is the point of a scheduled pickup, if ordering early is just showing up on the receiving end as if I put in my order 2 minutes ago
@aidansmith266
@aidansmith266 Месяц назад
@@LynxiroThey do that because they don’t want to have a ticket/flag on the screen/rail for several hours or incentivize you to make it too early. It’s basically set up to have it fired as a normal order, but if it goes in before you shut off ordering/ordering is scheduled to shut off it still prints as scheduled

The actual funniest thing about this story is that NL paid a 12-25% markup from that restaurant’s normal prices to order carry out through an app for a scheduled pickup. Had he called the restaurant and said I want my food ready at 7:00, he would’ve paid less and probably gotten his food at 7:15 at the latest.
@StrifeBlood

@@StrifeBlood not saying it doesn't happen but everywhere I've worked has preferred you call them simply because they have to pay uber depending on their contract 20-35% of the total sale and that's why there's usually around a 20% markup. I'm sure some places are just lazy or have a history of customers ordering via phone and then not showing up but everywhere I've worked it's always been chill to call up, with the only problem being some places are too busy to answer phones at the time you'd want to order.
@TheSquareOnes
@TheSquareOnes Месяц назад
Wait, do you still pay fees to schedule an order that you pick up yourself an hour after it was scheduled for? @notrab13
@notrab13 Месяц назад

I had a similar situation happen at Chipotle recently. Basically, I ordered online and went to go pick it up at the time I requested but the food wasn’t on the to-go shelf. The employees behind the counter were slammed with customers so I couldn’t really cut in to ask where my food was. Figuring it would only take a few more minutes, I waited in the restaurant for my food. 10 minutes pass and I see a guy come in and go straight to the counter and ask the employee for his to-go order. The employee grab a bag from behind the counter and gives it to him, so I go up and try the same thing. I’m pretty sure my food had been sitting there for the better part of 15 minutes while I had been waiting inside the store for no reason. All this to say, WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A TO-GO SHELF IF YOU’RE GONNA HOLD MY FOOD HOSTAGE BEHIND THE COUNTER. shit made no damn sense

I work food service, and I can tell you doordash and ubereats don't send the restraunt the ticket until a time they've determined is proper for your requested time. How they determine it is nonsense, and you basically have to intuit that an order is stuck in the system, because they always set it to pop up way after it's already supposed to be delivered. Also anyone who walks into any food service establishment becomes instantly incapable of reading and doordashers refuse to use the google translate app that came with their phone and will just guess which order is theirs and run out the door with some random shit. also to clarify: doordash lets the restraunt say when the food is ready, ubereats just tells you at some random time.

I’ll say I’ve worked at mostly fast food places and sometimes shit just gets tossed around like that. When you have premade orders and people inside everyone sorta feels entitled to get their food first and you just sorta have to manage what you’re prioritizing and when to keep everyone as happy as you can. I’ll say some people are stingy about free stuff but generally (ie franchise owners and GMs) but more often than not offering free stuff to supplement is normal practice that I’m a fan of. You don’t choose to wait that long you deserve some compensation in response.
