Love Northumberland. I agree fake lobster should be called Lobsta. Fake crab are called crabs sticks. They basically use the remnants of the sea creature to bind it together with rubbery like ingredients. Monk fish is my favourite. You don’t need much to bring out it’s natural taste. I think we call that lobster stuff "seafood extender" - mostly used in seafood sticks or crab sticks. Totally to be avoided. 😂 The Two Fat Ladies were legends. Popular even here in Oz. I'm pretty sure I've had monk fish but apparently it isn't available in the Southern Hemisphere and we substitute it with something called stargazer (or rock lobster). Banoffee pie was created at a legendary Hungry Monk restaurant in the picturesque little village of Jevington, East Sussex, not far from Eastbourne. However, I have been in the Eight Bells, which is a nice pub and I used to regularly do a walk of about 18-20 miles, starting in Eastbourne, which took in the Northern and Southern routes of the South Downs way, which goes through Jevington as well as a whole bunch of other interesting places, like Alfriston (which has the first property ever owned by the National Trust), Belle Toute lighthouse, which was rolled back from the crumbling cliff-edge on rails a few decades ago (it's now a B&B). Then there's Cuckmere Haven, Beach Head, the Seven Sisters, a tiny hidden gem of a village called West Dean, not to mention a lot of sheep. West Dean has a charming Saxon Church dating from before the Norman Conquest. Alfriston is certainly not to be missed.

Dara and Ian. Monkfish has only seemed to be popular quite recently. You rarely see whole Monkish in sea food market because it is so ugly it’s mother would disown it! It’s of the genus Lophius and is a deep bottom dweller fish living in the North Atlantic from coastal Norway to the Mediterranean. Normally we know it as the Angler fish you used to see in old deep water books, you know, the flat, scaly, ugly fish with an antennae with a glowing tip on it's forehead.. I don’t want to put you off a new found favourite! The fact that it’s natural habitat is European waters could explain why you haven’t seen or tried it before.

Hiya. Even though it should be pretty obvious to all and sundry from the outset (lobster for £2?), as an ex-caterer and victualler, I have to say that stallholder, if not careful, is in danger of being prosecuted under the Consumer Rights Act and/or the Trade Descriptions Act. Back in my day, local fishmongers would have labelled those 'tails' as Large Pinks. Anywaaay, stay safe. All the best to you.
