Hello Jon. My wife and I came down from Fife last year, not to rob and pillage, I must say, but to visit Bamburgh and it's castle. We truly liked the area and have now discovered your series of videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them and also the ammount of research you put in. Regards...Kenny.

Thanks Kenny, there is lots of content for you to enjoy and I am constantly posting new stuff. Watch the latest clip "Walkabout in Newbiggin" to hear the latest news. Hoping to start a series on the River Tweed later this year and these new "Walkabout" cprogrammes will allow me to get north of the border to include a wider range of locations. My best wishes Jon

Hi Trinity are you only interested in Castles? My recent work of last year and this is in much greater depth. Id be interested to know what you think of those? The upcoming series on the Rivers later this year will have more castles included. The first river to be explored will be the Tweed and that includes 6 castles along the route from source to estuary, so look out for that. Best wishes Jon

@@jonimrye5722 Yes John, I recalled some of the elements from your earlier edition. What incredible weather too!
@jonimrye5722
@jonimrye5722 2 года назад
Yeh the weather thing became a bit tongue in cheek to be honest. I got a few bad comments from people who said Northumberland was rubbish and that devon and cornwall were better, so it was a dig at them 😁

@@jonimrye5722 Well that's the downside of the internet the cyber-thug culture, the types that attack without making themselves visible, or intelligent. Luckily, they're not neighbours! Look forward to your next marvels John.

My Great Grandfather , was the Grandson of Taylor of Chipchase Castle . As oldest son was the one to take over , the Castle , title and Colliery . He fell in love with the Head Grooms daughter . As such he was disinherited as this was deemed a disgrace at the time . Written out of history was ' dead ' to the family , paid to disappear . The Head Groom was then " killed" supposedly in a riding accident , but indeed could equally have been dispatched or died in a dual , normal at the time ( honour killing ). The couple eloped to Gretna Green on their way to Klondyke , using mining knowledge .. then onto Australian Opel mining . They returned to Ashington , penniless years later . My mother would have been nearly a 100 now . I remember her grandmother in her 90's when I was 10 ...the stories so about 400 years in my living history .

WOW Giles thank you so much for sharing that. That has to be one of the most fascinating comments, if not THE most fascinating comment I have received in response to my films. I love when people come forward with their families REAL experiences. Are living near to me? Would love to meet and hear more. Best wishes Jon

Thanks very much...planning a trip to the area. My grandfather and great grandfather were head gamekeepers to Lord Joicey at Ford & Etal Estates. They'd previously worked for Joicey at Longhirst Hall. My great great grandfather had been head keeper to the Greys at Fallodon and Howick nearby. There's much to see in a short period of time so it's great to have resources such as your videos to help in mapping out our stay...

The other two in that series might also be worth a look. Many thanks and hope your trip goes well. Jon

I find it amazing that England had so many castles and wars for a country that was so small!
@jonimrye5722
@jonimrye5722 2 года назад
You have to realise that although we are a small island we have been constantly invaded since the beginning of time First the romans then the vikings then the danes then the french. The french still hate us to this day and regularly sided with the scots just to cause trouble for the english. Nicola Sturgeon is waging her own war with us at the moment though through parliament this time not with canons. We would have had the germans on our shores as well if you guys hadnt come to help in 1944 !

5:35 I realize you're oversimplifying for the sake of time and are already aware of this but some people might not be. King Henry wasn't the King of most of France, he was the vassal of the actual King but only in regards to his holdings in France.

obviously you are informed and educated in this field. A lot of my viewers are not and as an ex teacher I aim to make my narrative easy to understand by all even if that means repeating things.

Its amazing how a castle can fall into ruin so quickly!
@jonimrye5722
@jonimrye5722 2 года назад
They were blasted to bits during the fighting and then never repaired either because the owners were left penniless or were killed. After the wars between England and scotland finished in 1603 the castles were no longer needed and were left to go to ruin.

I've never been there but my family name is Godley. My family didn't know their heritage because the internet didn't exist. I must have been born at a good time. My mother's father was a MacLaughlin. I was born here in the Southeastern United States. Namely Charleston.
@jonimrye5722
@jonimrye5722 2 года назад
I am fairly certain the MacLaughlin's were a clan from south west scotland and I think friends to William Wallace who managed to rampage through northern england for a while in 1297. Not sure if you have watched the film on "Hadrians Wall" just released? No better time to come to the UK than this year with all of the celebrations if you could manage it?

Thanks for your comments and that expertise. I am aware of this but as my viewing audience includes a wide perspective of the population I try to keep the commentary as simple as I can to get the information accross. A lot of non-historians have become avid watchers due to this approach. Once again though I appreciate you making the point and making it public. Best wishes Jon

@jonimrye5722 Месяц назад
Hi Judy, yes I agree which is why my the narration is clean on all my current programmes. Please watch my more recent films 2022 onward you will find those have no annoying music. Also a number of the border castles will be revisited in my forthcoming project later this year when I begin the "Rivers Project". It will be a journey down the river Tweed as the first river in the series which incorporates 6 castles. You will notice all my recent programmes are supported with drone footage so this will be a spectacular presentation. Be sure to subscribe so as not to miss anything and please watch my other channel content, best wishes Jon
