You are absolutely correct. Most American users also turn on both fuel taps, seemingly ignorant of the fact that one is a reserve, which you will need with the smaller tanks.
And this guy has got it SAFE! Some crazies here on RU-vid advocate starting a Commando standing beside it - so LOUDLY asking for a broken ankle, broken leg and/or a smashed pelvis if & when it kicks. I can hardly believe it!
That's strange, I've had my commando since 1977 & start it either straddling the bike, or standing beside the bike, although never on the side stand as demonstrated by many others.
