Join me as we try a new MRE from Norway. I eat Cod in Curry Sauce, Drink Lemon Energy Drink and Coffee, and enjoy Blueberry Bar, Chocolate Bar, and Nutella with Cookies. It's quite a treat!
Norwegian MRE’s are perfect for when you go on a fishing trips in Norway. If you ever went camping there, you could enjoy the amazing view and fish all day.
I loved the views when I was there in 1984. However, I did not get to fish. Spent a day in Trondheim after the war games. Beautiful city, for sure. TFW, Brian.
I find it refreshing on your channel that you stop for a short prayer before your meal. Its a ritual my family has kept up all our lives and I think we need more of this type of thing.
I so glad to see that you liked the Norwegian MRE. As a Norwegian, i served in the Norwegian Navy, at a Navy base, and the food was so good that i put on weight. We had really good chefs who cooked up anything we wanted. In Norway they consider good food to be important for the morale. We were away from our families for a long time, far away from home, so they made sure to feed us right.
US Navy had the best chow on ship! My goodness! I ate 4 times a day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Mid-Rats. All were scrumptious! If I would have stayed on ship for any length of time, I would have. ballooned up big time. Do your Navy personnel get called 'Squid?' That's what us Marines called out Navy counter parts. TFW
@@MeAncient I don`t remember that we had a name for foreign navy marines. We used to interact with a lot with NATO troops who used to dock their ships at our navy base. I remember we had both British and American troops at our base when i was there. They used to eat with us, and we loved the British, cause they would bring things like "Fish and chips" and "English breakfast" to our mess halls and we loved it. Our food was good to begin with, but we loved the English food too. We had cooks who was so good. They were privates who had used to work in top restaurants before they served in the navy, and they made our life in the service really good. The english even approved of their version of english food like "Fish and chips" and "English breakfast" I used to love having a hot meal for breakfast. We didn`t usually have that, but when they English was there, they served us English breakfast. The American marines was very hospitable to us. We were welcomed onboard their ships, and was given tours. I remember i was allowed onboard one of your massive submarine boats. And your submarines are so much bigger than the Norwegian submarines. The crew onboard were nice and polite, and we had a great relationship. They had been under sea for months and months before they came to us, and were so happy to see the open air again..
@@yellyman5483 Great to hear from you again. The USMC told me I would be on subs for 6 months to a year at a time in the job I was trained for. I never ended up boarding a sub during my service, and I must admit I was glad of it. TFW!
@@MeAncient Great to hear from you to. The American Sub had travelled all the way from the U.S. to Norway under sea. I also heard them talk about 6 months under sea, but i don`t recall. This was in the 90`s, so my memory has faded a bit. When i talked to the crew, and asked them about being under sea for months and months, they didn´t mind at all. They were used to it. I remember them being very down to earth, and nice to relate to. NATO is a great thing, because it allows Norwegians to help out Americans, and vice versa. Norwegian Navy ships can dock at any American navy base if we need to. We rehearse together, and we develop weapons together. Because of NATO, Norway always buy American aircrafts for our Air Force. We have American F35s, and we train our pilots in the U.S. Our two countries have a great relationship thanks to NATO. I love your channel, and your MRE videos. I like that you say a prayer before you dig in to the meals. Thanking the lord for our blessings is a good and humble thing to do.
I can tell you one thing. I've never had a fish dish and thought to myself, "Some Nutella and cookies sound great on the side!" Hope you all are doing well and are enjoying the preparation for Thanksgiving!
ive been watching a lot of your videos lately and they've been helpin me destress during some hard times, thank you for the wonderful reviews, I enjoy listening to your stories of your time serving in the military, and your upbeat attitude is infectious, I don't comment on videos too often, but I wanted to leave one here to express my gratitude for your really enjoyable videos
I sadly never had a father, my biological father is an asshole, and my Stepfather is also an ass. But by watching these videos of you ,ACE, and ACE'S Brother, I've enjoyed them a lot. They have made me feel like I am there with you guys and have made me enjoy fishing and being by myself a lot more. I know someday If I ever have kids, I'll take them out camping and do all the outdoor activities you guys do. Thank you guys a lot.
Oliver, Thank you for those kind words. As you say, if you get a chance to be a father, you can choose to do things differently. Lots of good resources, including RU-vid Videos, on how to be a good parent and husband, for sure. Never to early to learn how, my friend. I hope we can continue to be an inspiration to you. We all enjoy having you on board with us in the videos. TFW!
I love your channel, you’re always such a genuine and likable guy. The way that you make these videos makes me feel like I’m right there with you! Thank you for always bringing us top-tier entertainment and for fighting for our freedom.
Nöt-Creme (nut cream) is an absolute classic in Scandinavia! Was and still is manufactured in my home town of Hässleholm in the south of Sweden. Printzells (the company) invented the stuff in 1961 and one use which is very delicious is to fill rolls with it or make a round bun in which you put the cream in the middle. Highly recommended! Haessleholm was also a major military and railroad hub with two large regiments, one armored with mostly MBT's and the other for support with ammo, food and also field hospitals. Thanks again for the great videos!
Louis and Clark also used the first air rifle on their voyage it was said to have worked well. It is in the national history museum i believe. Really interesting stuff. They used something very similar to a old tire pump to charge the air rifle and used the same lead ball animation as their muskets
I watched your turkey dinner episode the other day. I enjoy these types of videos. I'm still watching, because I saw you pray. I appreciate that you pause before you eat to thank God. Your attitude and demeanor are very inviting. I don't have to shield my kids from watching. I appreciate that. Thank you for your service. Keep up the awesome videos. God bless you.
I'm non-religious but I personally find your little prayer somewhat refreshing. I mean yeah for others who don't do it, it seems kind of extra, but there's no harm in giving thanks. I think it's cuz we've had some very loud "religious" people shoving that down everyone's throats in such a visible way in the past few years that people that don't do it have an aversion to anything religious, which is why I find your prayers somewhat refreshing since it's more "wholesome" in some ways.
I appreciate your perspective. I like the old quote, “Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.” I always like to discuss my faith. If you are ever interested in discussing, email me. meancient@gmail.com TFW!
Hey guys, really enjoyed this video. The Lewis & Clark story was great. The blueberry bar reminded me of the consistency of marshmallow treats, very chewy and soft, looked really good. When you poured the coffee into your hand, it reminded me of the old Folger crystals, we would drink growing up, when we didn't have time to brew up a real pot of coffee. Looking forward to more of these MRE videos, God bless.
Ancient, No problem with prayer, It has served me well over the years. My father is a vet and Captain over violent crimes in OKC for 25 years as well as a preacher, For your duty, I must say thank you for you calling I must thank you and commend you.
im glad you liked it :) we allso have one with a chicken curry, and a kebab stew, those are my favorit that i bring when ever i go camping in the mountains or in the forrest :)
I do believe I will be asking Beautiful Bride to recreate Cod in Curry sauce, Norwegian style. Substituting fish for the chicken we normally consume should just about do it. A dash of fish sauce or homemade fish stock and we have a meal. Thank you for another great video.
The Nötcreme was (is? i don't know, never liked it) so popular in Sweden that it gave name to a book "Två nötcreme och en moviebox". A book about growing up in the 80's. Nötcreme was on of the mos popular candy during that time. Been around since 1961. As always, a very good video.
Surprised the coffee is bad. Never did have instant coffee in Norway though. Norwegians love their coffee, I know this. Black as well, why there is no cream. Must have spreads. Open face slices with something on it. Knew there would be some sort of fish in there lol. Fish with potatoes and carrots, make it often. Love My Norwegian dishes. See you are a marine, want to say thank you for your service. Have a nice day!!
I missed this video when it dropped, YT has been really bad lately about notifying me on several channels I follow. I have this exact ration in my stash! Nice to see that you enjoyed it. Great review as always :)
Thanks for sharing. Could you put a link up for the book. It looks like a good read. Guess I have bad service video was a bit blury for me today. Usually so clear.
The book is called, "UNDAUNTED COURAGE" by Stephen Ambrose. Any library will have it and I've seen copies in used book stores. Also available on eBay and Amazon, of course. It's worth reading, for sure. TFW!
first i love your videos, was in the navy in the early 90's......but i am goin to make a suggestion shake the sealed sealed packages instead of the way u stir it i think it will mix it better if u shake it
Thanks for the tip! The only problem is that the bigger pieces take so long to absorb the water that sometimes the other parts are really soggy by the time the bigger pieces take on the original texture. TFW!
@@MeAncient you need to surprise us with a triple video in 1 week for christmas. Hey and congrats on almost 50k subs. Ill be here when you hit a million.
I am a descendant of Joseph and Ruben Field 2 brother's that were the stubborn core of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. I was born and raised in West Virginia.
The guy who managed our glass business back when I had a business in Idaho brought it in every Christmas. He was Norwegian. It was the real thing, authentic for sure. TFW!
Hi. Is this your second Norwegian MRE? I seem to remeber you comparing a norwegian MRE against a US MRE or field menu. Or did you do that after this one?
The irony is, most Norwegian soldiers stay the hell away from the fishy MRE's, unless you want to be combat ineffective the next day. The accessories are nice though!
"They did'nt give you some cream or something. These are NORWEGIAN rations. No Norwegians with a little bit of self respect would add cream or sugar to the cofee.
@@MeAncient ok on the 2nd I will order some and send you them are there specific ones you haven't tried Sir. Btw Thank you for your service. My uncle served 20+ yrs USMC
Depends on how it is stored and what it is made of. I've eaten a few that were 40 years old. Didn't get sick. I've smelled some newer ones and decided not to eat them because I could tell they were bad. Just be really careful. TFW!
Something smells fishy in demark lol i still say forgien meals shade American meal by far we had good stuff with the c.rats compared to others REALLY lol but not now
I would love to. I have had 3 sent to me. All 3 were ravaged and pillaged by the Customs people at JFK. Took all meat and fruit out. Left only crackers and sugar, salt, things like that. Until I can get one intact, I don't see it happening. TFW!
Cod...okay. Curry... not so much. The Filipino messcranks on my Navy ship ruined a lot of good meat by currying. Threw me off curry for over twenty years!
I don't know, Lance. The Navy always had good chow aboard the ships I was on. Heck, I volunteered to do laundry while on shore in Beirut so I could take a short helicopter ride over and eat on the mess deck. TFW!
Dirk, if you haven't read what led up to meeting the grizzly bear and what they shot and how they had to reload, then it doesn't make sense to you, I guess. TFW!
love your vids but the prayer thing is just weird to me, if people wanted to thank for food they should thank nature itself but people tend to be grateful to something they imagine being a fictional "human, creator of life" rather than being thankful and respectful to the REAL nature that provides us with food and everything
In the USMC, when we were outdoors, we did everything with our 'cover' on. It's an old habit and, incidentally, not disrespectful where I live. TFW, Caroline!
