The pattern is very well written with excellent charted designs (highly recommended). I really liked the Woolfolk Far (very soft, light and airy but a breeze to work with for stranded knitting, perfect for garments worn close to the skin. Just be aware that you might need to experiment with needle size because this yarn acts more like DK yarn once you begin to tension it on the needles. (Similar to how the Lang Cashmere Light performs, both spun using chainette construction.)

Needles depend on desired finished size
I had to go up several needle sizes than that recommended by the pattern for an adult size large to get a size that fit my hands. I wasn’t able to get a nice tight firm dense knitted fabric this way which was how the pattern was designed but even with my much larger gauge the finished knitted fabric was not too loose.
I really want to knit this pattern one more time!
The best book I have found for teaching how to knit Selbu mittens is actually back in print on Amazon:
Annemor Sundbo
Norwegian Mittens and Gloves: Over 25 Classic Designs for Warm Fingers and Stylish Hands
There is an excellent section in the book that teaches you how to read charts for mittens (the thumb was the most confusing to me until I read this book.) There are also many vintage patterns of Norwegian mittens from child size to adult. Once I found this book and knit one of the patterns (that are all very well written) I felt confident I could apply what I learned to make any kind of color-work mitten.
There is also a free video with a full tutorial online on you tube in English.

Finally I highly recommend viewing the tutorial on two color long tail cast on for Norwegian Mittens on Beth Brown Reinsel’s you tube channel (I like this method for casting on stitches for the thumb better then the backward loop method.) See 1:17 minutes into the video:
