Time has made me jaded and cynical. A new character with ties to Raziel and Kain? Exclusive to this time period? Man I really really hope is not what I think It could be.
I truly truly wish that one day legacy of Kain gets made into an anime with vampire hunter D art style, now that is just a wish that would never come😢.
When I've read about this news about the novel, I was waiting for the best channel about LOK to cover the news. You didn't disappointed me. You guys are so amazing ! I'm following Joshua Viola on twitter and he has following me back, just because I said it's exciting news that LOK finally return.
I was 16 when I first played Soul Reaver and it was definitely a AAA game for the time. It was by far the most carefully crafted, attention to detail, high budget, high quality piece of entertainment my teenage mind had ever experienced at that time.
Oh no, produced by Cristal Dynamics. The original team directly involved would be hopeful, the current Cristal Dynamics dont like old franchises, Im afraid of what they aproved😨
Well they would need to get Amy Hennig back. We have to thank her for the amazing story of the original games. The last thing I heard from her was that she wanted to found her own development studio but not sure of what happened with that. Maybe we have a very small chance of her returning to the series? Would be nice but I guess that will sadly not happen.
Out of dozens of characters to expand on, they choose to create a new character that connects Kain and Raziel? We already have plenty of characters that do. Besides, we already know that Kain is going to rip Raziel’s wings off and execute him in the end without this new character around to witness it. What would be nice is if they dive a little deeper on Kain’s discovery of Raziel’s destiny: I’ve always felt that Kain truly was shocked and jealous of Raziel’s evolution. His most trusted son and officer being capable of evolving wings that hasn’t been seen since the ancient of ancients. Kain was jealous but, I felt there was a side of guilt and curiosity that flowed within him after ripping Raziel’s wings off - feeling that he may have had Raziel locked up for a short time to give him (Kain) time to go back to the chamber and look deeper into the matter of this phenomenon to which it was then Kain discovered the third option of destiny upon which Kain would gamble everything
Good news but I'm a bit worried by this new character. Smells like a potential new protagonist for new projects (that usually aims for 'modern audiences')
"The book flashes back to Raziel's human past as a Sarafan warrior and reveals how he came to be a vampire serving under Kain." Soul Reaver 2 already did that...
yeah, it got me somewhat bummed out too. From all the past events it would be great to see Vampire raziel in times of raising Kain's empire along other clans
omg dude your room is incredible!!! also YAY thank you for sharing this news! finally some LoK stuff! My dad played the games when i was a child and i continue to play them now. I love the series so much, its a very important part of my life❤. I just want the series to get a remaster or remake to play it on my ps5, that would be so coool, soooo coool.
Long time LoK fan. I have all five games, several figures, and the prequel Top Cow Soul Reaver comic (one of my most prized possessions). ... I will forever be somewhat jaded towards any new official LoK content/media until it's proven its worth, both due to the long absence AND because of the... other failed project for the series... I just can't trust much that isn't yet beyond hearsay.
On the one hand, a part of me is cautious, after so much time has passed with our beloved series being left in IP hell for so long. Embracer frustrated me a great deal, during the past few years, especially in the wake of CD's LoK surveys. On the other, I'll be happy enough for ANY attention to be brought again to Legacy of Kain. The old series is one of my strongest nostalgia triggers, and I'd be utterly DELIGHTED to find more people in the future I can share this fandom's camaraderie with. (ADDENDUM: I'll be approaching 30 in September, but already feeling too godawful with my wretched body. 💀 That said, watching my father play the games when I was little was what eventually led to my fixation with this series. It's been my hyperfixation since '07, and even helped me pull through some of my darker days.) Thanks for the news, Baz and Raina. 🖤 Hope the couch wasn't TOO uncomfy, btw... 😉😆
THEY WILL SEE, WE'LL FIGHT UNTIL ETERNITY COME WITH ME, WE'LL STAND AND FIGHT TOGETHER... Oh, crap. Wrong action adventure game (Devil May Cry 4). Sorry.
I'm glad that people like you exist, with all the physical stuff behind you (flags, OG game boxes and statuettes)! Physical proof that the Legacy of Kain series is still a thing today. I'm kind of a low-budget guy, so all I have is a big poster with both Soul Reavers in front of The Pillars, and a green kinetic spinner resembling Raziel's health bar 🤣
I can't deny that I am overwhelmingly sceptical. The opinions of original fans are no longer considered relevant to many companies when resurfacing franchises or making new iterations. This is despite older fans often being the most willing to spend, and the most likely to encourage new audiences. We got a poll, of which was cool, but no further developments have come from that. Instead we get an 'official fanfic' graphic novel that effectively retells us the story of Soul Reaver 2, of which we're funding ourselves; thereby putting none of the financial risks on Crystal Dynamics to make a good product. Moreover, any mention of a "new character" in today's climate instantly hurls up imagery of reworking and rewriting the storylines, worldbuilding and canonical lore, just to fit in something that nobody was asking for. Maybe I'm being too cynical. But I've been pining for years for just one final game to complete the series; and this has done nothing but welcome a fresh dread for yet another franchise I deeply enjoy.
10:24 - I once noticed that two of my favourite games (Soul Reaver 2 and Life Is Strange) both contained time travel, an excellent relationship between their two main characters, and a User Interface consisting of a weird spiral ... I was so excited, I made a whole Twitter thread trying to retell the story of LIS using Legacy of Kain quotes. It's nice to hear them mentioned in the same breath, even if only briefly!
Its so exciting indeed! They are definitely further testing the waters to see if we will put our money where our mouths are! Also, I am about to turn 33 haha! Glad we have fans from many age groups though!!
I'm cautiously optimistic about getting new LOK content, but knowing how franchises are treated these days I'm afraid Cristal Dynamics may just end up doing something for the "modern audiences". I wish I was more hyped but I've become too cynical, sadly.
There are more than enough reasons to be cynical with the disgusting trends that almost everyone in this industry are following, the non involvement of Amy Hennig is already a pretty big red flag, but let's see.....
Oh man! Found out about this from a friend last week - they're making a remaster as well by the looks of it - they sent a survey out ages ago, and I do remember waffling on at them in the choices that that'd be nice! Very cool.
@@Ieatpaste23 i know the anime has mixed feelings but I love the art style of the characters design and I also watch the 2010 animation film Dante's Inferno by the same animator is a good one
"Who exactly coffee guy is" Hah. There's a memory reading the special thanks I was not expecting. XD I clicked for youtube to let me know when you post, for some reason it doesn't. I'm late on this one, but just as excited!
It's just a backer project, I was hoping it'd be an upcoming title from one of the mainstream publishers. Like others, as a long time LOK fan, I'm jaded and cynical as well. I don't care for any new characters or prequels, just give us a satisfying ending to the cliffhanger story line. The Elder God is still around, The future of Nosgoth is still condemned. Kain is now a restored scion of Balance with a cleansed Reaver and he can now see the EG. But now what? This franchise seems to revolve around 1 timeline that keeps readjusting itself. Without the easy way out of adapting the multiverse concept, it seems that the game writers have wrote themselves into a corner. Ironic that while Kain's last line was about Raziel given him hope, the franchise itself seems pretty hopeless.
You seriously made my decade hearing this news 😱🤯🤩 Super Nova explosion of excitement just got set off in my brain, subbed man, I want to know EVERYTHING! What awesome, awesome news to wake up too
Honestly at this rate, it's nice to get anything related to Soul Reaver, even if it isn't the announcement of an official remaster. Regardless, i'm glad this beautiful franchise is getting attention. Btw, what's your favorite spear design from SR1? Personally my favorite is Raziel's clan.
I was 9 when soul Reaver came out and it one of my favorite series I have beaten ever game in the series I can't wait till it gets new games or remakes or remastered what ever comes I'll be happy ..
I really don't see room for a new character in the story.. unless you are really creative, like Amy Hennig, which most people aren't. So I expect a lot of retconning. And they have the cheek to ask the fans for the money for it? No thanks.
Considering the ammount of time travel...how do you do a prequel to Legacy of Kain (Unless you cover the ancient past), but having something is better than nothing.
@@noahdean9685 Young Janos would make the most sense to me as a protagonist, you can tie him into the lore, but the details of the Vampire-Hylden war are very much up for grab, but yeah it feels like its tries to go into how Kain got the Sarafan warrior...which is not really a question that need to be answered.
Woke up to this news from both the article and this video being posted, I've never sat up out of bed so quickly before. 😅 While yes, there are thoughts which make me a little doubtful for the novel and possible plans for future games, this news still excites me. I really do hope that this will be a successful run for the kickstarter, and also hope that this may bring a possible opportunity for LoK to be brought back from the dead and come to the gaming community once again. 👍 I'll be honest I'm quite surprised to hear of LoK possibly being classed as AAA game, but like you said, Raina, I'll take it with a grain of salt till other news comes along. Pls keep up with the amazing work, Raina, sorry for the long comment! Thank you,you are awesome!👍
I was actually thinking about LoK the other day (much as I do quite often) at work and wondering what sort of approach they would take toward a possible remake or reboot of the series. I thought it would be cool if they did a remake of the first Soul Reaver (obvious choice, most popular entry, was already a great soft reboot of the franchise even before soft reboots were a thing) while the Blood Omen story would be adapted into another medium like comics or novels or even a TV show akin to Game of Thrones. It would also be cool if the Soul Reaver and Defiance one-shot comics were collected in this new story.
The Guardian of the Balance who was before Ariel and was killed by Vorador is for some reason unfairly forgotten, and this is somehow wrong. I want Raziel to be this Guardian of the Balance and at the same time the leader of the Serafans along with Malek. But this is just my wish.
I'm certain that wouldn't happen. He was born in a time when there was already a Balance Guardian, he couldn't have been called to the Pillars. I _would_ like to hear more about this murdered guardian though.
Tbh even if the worst case scenario comes around and it's of poor quality I will still be happy. More content means we are one step closer to a continuation of the story in some shape or form
So many fan films, fan trailers, fan prequels, sequels and only just recently: lets plays videos with facecam or PNGtubers merely started playing the series with Blood Omen for the first time, and only a selected few got to finish the five games (BO2 is the black sheep, and I agree... dear god...). All we can do is to keep spreading the word in any shape or form (asking to play them, some memes and quality shitposts... I would make even a YTP if I have the time, but the couple of vids in my channel would have to do for now, lol).
Folio is releasing Neuromancer for the 40th anniversary, Soul Reaver is releasing something, I feel like time traveller. I only hope for a new Deus Ex even more than LoK. Gex was also my thing back in the 90s.
I hope they remaster or bring all games playable to new gen as I only played them a little but love the universe I like the graphic novel idea and would be interested if Netflix brings out a anime for it too good video dude keep the info coming
Legacy of Kain has been my all-time favorite video game series. For more than twenty years I yearned and imagined storyline ideas that continued on after Blood Omen 2 and Defiance. I always wanted a new Legacy of Kain to come back on next-gen, but we never got it, because Square Enix wasn't interested in it, and now that they sold Crystal Dynamics to other buyers. I hope for a new game, but this I never expected and I don't know what to make of this. I have nothing against a graphic novel, and if the artwork is really good, like fantasy art quality done by the best fantasy artists, no Marvel, and DC BS art, and if the story is as good as Amy Henning's writing was when she wrote the story for the games and not that almost would have been train wreck dead sun project, we definitely dodged a bullet with that project. If everything is as good then I'll throw my money in, but I need to see results first. If this is a tase to see if people want another Legacy of Kain game, then I really hope this works. The video game industry has changed for the worse, good games are hard to come by, and single-player games are not as prevalent as they used to be because companies don't want to sell a finished product, just a junk game or a multiplayer game that they can sell to suckers in pieces through DLC, Microtransactions, and Live Service. I like the concept of telling a story about Raziel's thousand years as a vampire. They should have done that through a game, but I'll settle for a comic book if it will do more of this in a video game down the line. As for this new Character, it could be good. Maybe they are planning on introducing Raziel's eldest kin to his clan, the Razielim, and that character could chronicle the true fate of what happened to Raziel's descendants. Did Kain truly wipe them all out of fear that they will evolve soon after their clan founder and or will avenge their Patriarch's death, or was it done by some of the other Clans without Kain's permission, or did they survive in a post future Soul Reaver timeline? We'll wait and see what the product is. I hope they keep it dark, gothic, and stick to the same Gnostic themes and deep philosophical dialogues as the original series did. If it's a great story, then it won't matter what medium it's in, I just want this to be good. We live in a world of suck, and it's rare that something good comes in these modern times, but as Kain said at the end of Defiance. I'll continue with that "Bitter taste of that terrible illusion, hope."
You know what? I no longer want new LoK content, Crystal dynamics can no longer make anything good, they will ruin the franchise somehow, leave LoK in peace, whatever they have ready I can guarantee is ass
This is when developers pushed artificial obsolescence, may MDK, sequels were very far off the original With less features then Xbox pretty much spent 10 years plus in idle.
good news @#$ finaly excuse my frensh,i been with legacy of kain from the start,i played blood omen on playstation 1 when it was just out a year or so i was about 16 back then i think. and yes i turned 40 this year ^^ i went them to eventualy finish the story, kain standing at the vampire citidal with a freshaly made soulreave shouldnt be the end, kain stil needs to bring back balance to nosgoth. and am not taking no for an answer dammit! :)
If it's a prequel then I'm assuming they're going to remake Soul Reaver. Which.....well. Let's just say i don't trust CD. They're not the same people who brought us Legacy of Kain. From what I heard they hate Tomb Raider and didn't like the Remastered collection for some reason. I donno. I should be excited, but I'm just too used to being disappointed.
I would like not to have any Nazis in the LoK fandom! For anyone wondering: This user's profile picture shows that they're against anyone who is supporting or even inside the LGBT+ community. They're also openly racist and support the far-right parties that want to get rid of any laws that protect LGBTQ+ people. I hope the LoK fandom doesn't stand behind any of these awful ideologies and helps to keep such people out of here.
These people can easily be identified, because they all have a profile picture like this person here. With the german flag colors black, red, gold/yellow as a background on their profile picture with a stripe pattern, which has a resemblance to the pride flag, but by using the german flag colors, they just show their hate for any LGBT+ person or their supporters
I wish we got a legacy of kain game set during the sacrifice ending after the first game the vampires are gone also the human thought a new vampire comes forth but he's a Half-Blood this game could be like your choices have consequences like Fable or the tall tales games like The walking Dead or tales from the borderlands, your choices will determine the ending of the game you can either be the hero or the villain!
Comics generally don't have animation or combat mechanics, so asking for those is kind of a stretch. Images might spoil the plot, so that's kept under wrap.
with even more recent news (comic con figurines/sr 1 and 2 remaster) i'm still not hyped. quite interested in a comic book and quite "meh" on remasters. Don't get me wrong, its great that they're doing SOMETHING with the franchise , the fact alone that you'll be finally able to play the games on modern machines is good. Unless they will serve us with mgs1 remaster treatment But i can't see how newcomers will make sense of the plot not starting with blood omen for them and blood omen is quite archaic for modern times, i can't see it going well without proper bo1 remake
