.5 to .33 of a student loan 😅 with land, driveway, a vehicle, and tools (for a plethora of professions), about the same as a student loan. Except one is easier to attain, with no guarantee of mid to high end work at the end of it, and with nearly no way to absolve it. Less if you don't need a polebarn as large for whatever profession.

Good breakdown of all costs. My 34x50 was built around the same time and costs were similar. Always lots of variables in construction that I found can really impact the overall cost. Seems like I’m never done as I’m working on the inside now too. Great looking garage!

I went off your video. I just finished my 36x56 and same 2 tone idea. Its total is at 55,200. I knew the contractor, offered him the same labor rate 15k and also concrete was same rate 5k in crete, 4in labor. I went with 2x4 every 2ft post built it looks almost identical!! And also same rate for metal igot from my local amish community. 9k for metal everything to the screws! Thank you verymuch for your help!!

I think your costs were right on but one thing that anyone building one should look into is getting your wood from a local sawmill. The saw mills around me sell hardwood, mostly oak for far cheaper than the local lumber yards and big home improvement stores such as Lowes and Home Depot sell their pressure treated and non-treated softwood lumber for. You will want to get this wood long before you build, at least eight months to let it dry out as it isn't dried yet but you will end up with a stronger and more bug and rot resistant building than you would with conventional lumber at around half the cost.

Thanks for the details on cost and the other videos in this series (I watched the failed electrical inspection video first). We bought a home a few months ago that has 2 barns. One is basically the same as yours, but a bit smaller at 28x40 and it has a conventional wood sheathed roof with asphalt shingles. It was built to be an actual barn and one wall is open to an outside fenced in area where the original owner's horses would graze. It still has a dirt floor and interior half wall to keep the animals from getting in to the the storage/tractor parking area. I plan to build it out as a 2 section shop: the open side will be closed in and a full size wall will replace the half wall turning that portion (roughly 1/3 of the building) into a wood shop and the rest will be for working on cars or other vehicles. It's probably going to take me a year to get everything done based on time and budget. I want to do as much myself as possible and your series here is going to be very helpful. The barn won't have solar, but the house came with a 6.7Kw solar array already. I also plan to add battery storage for that, although we need to get a handle on the amount of power we use vs production to make sure there is excess to be captured by a battery.
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject 11 месяцев назад
Congrats on the new property! It's taken me roughly 8 months up to this point to finish out the interior of mine. I still have a bathroom to completely finish. I am holding off on that since none of the pipes were installed before the concrete was poured. I gotta saw up the concrete in that room and do it right. Make main water connections at the street and all the fun stuff. 😀 I don't have batteries on my solar system since I can't justify the cost. The ROI is not quick enough. Maybe someday I will find a deal I can't pass up and grab it. Thanks for watching and commenting! Good luck with your build!

I have a 24x36x15 pole building getting built this year in my back yard total cost is $49,000. They're building a 8x24 loft inside and additional 1500 sq ft of concrete pad/driveway to pour. Im also limited with 9 foot wide entrance on either side lf the house so that complicates things as well. I think the price is fair given limited access and they're doing everything from dirtwork to final steps as well.

Could you have done rafters/joists instead of trusses.? Reasoning...it seems you lose ALOT of space. Either storage or possible living space using trusses. How thick a concrete pad did you pour and was there any plumbing for the building? Water/sewer/drainage? Thx

We are using a double bubble wrap. Adds a vapor barrier and a small reflective r value. It's the white you see all over the walls and ceiling. That was included in my metal cost, because I bought that at time of the metal purchase. We also have standard ridge vents. If I finish this building I will add one decent sized attic vent on each side of the building. As of right now, those are not needed. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

Most builders purchase from those guys so they know the ones who are busy and have good feedback. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I went 12-foot ceilings after 5in concrete, but if I had to do it over, I would probably do 10 feet ceilings for my needs. I went 12 feet as a just in case. Plus, it allowed for the 10x10 commercial doors. I would probably change the doors to my original design of an 18ft x 8 door if I had to do it over. I am happy with everything, though. We built the shell in March of 2022. The posts are in the ground 4 ft. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I might have missed it but I didn't catch any details on planning - Did you do the design or did you pay somebody? It doesn't look like you got an all in one kit but I could be mistaken.

I designed it using the Menards project planner on their website. midwest.menards.com/postframe-web/redirect.do#/home - Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍

Hey Justin - What part of the country are you in? I am looking to build in Delaware and am wondering if the costs are comparable.

I'm in central KY. I bought lumber at peak pricing but could not wait. ONE 14ft 2x4 at that time was over $32. Hopefully prices are not like that in your area at this time. Never know though, everything is much higher than it was just several months back. Good luck 👍🏻 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

@JustinsProject

Yes, the double bubble wrap. It's not really insulation but more of a vapor barrier. I am in the process of finishing the building now. So the cost will go up, and I am going to insulate the walls and attic. I'll put together a video on the cost of all that in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

just watched a guy build a 40 x 72 foot building. so far it has cost him 200.000 thousand just labor and building alone. and he is nit done yet. adding a porch later to one side. these buildings are just way to much. will never spend that kind of money. I think people are being taken advantage of.

Great video great info Threequestions. Why didn’t you go with a package from someone like Menards ? Advantages, disadvantages ? Did you consider an FBI or Morton building ? Lastly did I miss something as when you quoted everything you mentioned only the gutters pricing included the labor but what about the labor to build it all ? Thanks After your build what would you do different if you had to build another?
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
I did purchase the package from Menards but chose to buy the metal from a local manufacturer because it was 30% cheaper on the metal and a better thickness. Other than that, almost everything was purchased at Menards. The good thing at Menards is that you can custom design your build, and they will build a materials list around that design. I considered Morton's, but the cost was so high I got priced out. I covered the labor cost for building and concrete. The gutters were a package deal from a local installer that did not break down materials and labor... just a price for making and installing them. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

@@JustinsProject Thanks. That helps a lot. I missed that you were including the labor I’ll watch again His thick did you go on the metal ? With your experience do you have Any thoughts on using a pole barn shell for a pole barn home ? I understand that’s a loaded question I’m just thinking about building one and the only way you learn anything is by asking and seeking advise from others With the experience you have what are your initial first thoughts on what would you want done differently ( if anything ) on how your barn was built if it were to be for a home ?
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
@@roberts4411 If your main goal is to convert it into a home, I would not build a pole style. I would frame it with 2x6 walls like a stick built home. There are a lot of reasons for that and very hard to explain in a short response. If I had it to do over, I would have gone that method. I thought going pole style would save money, reality: it is not, as I starting to finish it. In most areas, you will have to obtain a certificate of occupancy. Depending on the area, the first thing to do is reach out to planning and zoning and see if what your looking to do is allowed. I know it sucks, but it would be terrible to start a project that big and be told you can complete it for what it was intended for.
@bteamshorts
@bteamshorts Год назад
@@roberts4411 Some banks won't finance a pole barn (poles in ground) style construction. I would have a conventional footer and slab foundation if I was building a home to live in.

Folks, if you are building a pole building sheet those roofs. That fake roll insulation is garbage in the ceilings.
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
I'm not sure I would call it garbage. It's a great moisture barrier. True, though, the double bubble is not an insulation. It's a reflective thermal moisture barrier. However, when used in conjunction with my now R-38 in the ceilings, the shop is exceeding my expectations. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
