Yet we pay the third highest electricity rates in the State behind only Moloka’i and Lana’i and as a State we’re the highest in the US. We have abundant sun, wind and waves and on the BI, geothermal. Wtf are we doing? And good luck getting the resorts, hotels and big box stores to help reduce demand when needed😆

Go tell that to the rich houses and the hotels to save energy, Don’t punish the local house hold people

Who is this private supplier that provides up to 60MW that went offline because of mechnical failure? What's the County doing to hold Helco responsible for this maintenance failure of such a crucial piece of our supply infrastructure? What's the point of having "news" that is just repeating Helco's press release?

I never know when the grid power is down , I make my own with solar and store it in a battery..

Big island has an unlimited supply of clean energy Geo Thermal power so why only one Geo Thermal plant in operation ?

I highly doubt all the VRBO's in my neighborhood will mention anything to their guests about conserving energy. With the amount of rubbish I see them hauling to the transfer station on a daily basis, they've already shown how much they respect da Aina and conserving on anything.

A big problem with State sponsored Utility monopolies like HECO is they get lazy, short sighted and unproductive because there customers are being held hostage. The Federal Government should break up this greedy monopoly like they did with AT&T because more competition would encourage them to build more resilience into the system.

Hawaii island has a geothermal "hot spot" that easily could supply the bulk of the electric required. The excuses the general public uses to block upgrades to the existing plant will have to face reality.

I take this as a deliberate punitive measure to try and dissuade unity among those culturally rooted. It is not a coincidence this "phasing" is being implemented during one of the largest cultural gatherings (The Merry Monarch Festival) of the Hawaiian people and those who support their plight. They did the same "coincidentally" on Oahu when the public discourse was extremely negative of HECO shortly after the Lahaina tragedy. The dialogue quickly shifted to fear of widespread, prolonged shut-offs and support for HECO to "get better" ...

Yet they want us to go to electric cars! What happened to the new solar farm in Waikoloa?

Well, the wind don’t blow and the sun don’t shine 24/7. Batteries only hold and provide so much.

Propaganda on the sheep. Resorts and rich homes run AC all the time even when nobody is home.
