Very Informative. Looks like Auto-focus is more favorable at 200mm, compared to other focal lengths. I am disabled, having difficulty at focus close for macro of flowers or insects. Can you test to see how effective the Sony f4 200mm Macro can be at distance of 4 feet to 6 feet from the subject? Can you test to determine if this lens is really capable as a Telephoto Macro Lens. For disabled person like me a Telephoto Macro would be very helpful. Difficult for me to get close in. Thank you. I do not see anyone else evaluating lens the great way you do.

@@hans6304 Yes I have. It is difficult to get close in with a standard Macro lens because of my disabilities. After reading about telephoto Macro from a distance, I am exploring my own telephoto lenses to see what will create a Macro-like still. I am interested in Sony 200mm f4 because it says it is Macro capable. Am aware the Sigma 100-400mm and Sigma 150-600mm will do telephoto macro. From a distance of several feet. Am attempting to find telephoto that will produce macro from working distance. A telephoto that will do stills of birds at distance, yet also do a frame filling macro at about 4 feet would make an awesome telephoto for everyday carry...
@@don_at_large telephoto macro lens will sure make it easier for all of us macro lovers. Hope more manufacturers will come out with reliable macro lenses. It'll be nice if they can be more affordable too 😄
I think as a general rule zooms perform better at their longest focal length for close up. Some filter manufacturers who make close up filters like NiSi indicate the best focal length to use and it tends to be at the longer length. I use these with my 40-150 on Mu-43 at the longer lengths and it seems ok. But focus seems to be always slower at minimal focus distances
Hi. Mark, thank you for your observations and suggestions. I think I should also buy one close-up filter for my new lens because it only gives me 0.5 x magnification. My experiment matches yours.
How about teleconverter compared to the close-up filter. TC2 gives you 1:1 macro and TC 1.4 gives you 0.7 macro. TC 1.4 has a bit impact on image quality but seems to be OK. TC2 iq degradation seems to be bit more noticeable but I have seen great sample images from others.
@@dorabear3030 Sony makes mention of the 200mm f4 Macro being useful with TC2 or TC1.4. Have yet to see a review verifying working distance for Macro use, utilizing either teleconverter.
@@don_at_large There are plenty of reviews. Also, it is known that TC will not change the minimum focus distance of the lens, just the maximum aperture. So, essentially, you will get a 1:1 macro on TC2. Many reviews have confirmed this, including Mark's one (first 10 minutes), which I think is quite complete ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uitMNZsQ6uA.html However, the image quality and 2 stops of aperture loss can be problematic. TC1.4 can be a middle ground. Also, it is kind of expensive. But you can use a teleconverter for more reach beyond macro since you can still focus to infinity, unlike a close-up filter. I am just not sure, compared to the close-up filter, which image quality loss is lesser for the macro use.
What do u think is the better option for food videography 70-200 f4 macro or 90mm macro? I think that 70-200 give me better verisality for events where I can shoot from distance guests, and also make macro of food. If I bring 90 macro I will also need to bring then and some telephoto lens.

I do use 70-200 during my outdoor photoshoots, both still and videography. It is a great lens. But if you think of only a dedicated macro photoshoot, it is better to have a dedicated macro lens.

Hi, Kloketen. I have tried many autofocus lenses for macro videography, but failed, because no camera lenses can autofocus quickly on small subjects. I therefore use my iPhone 13 for macro videography. If I do used macro lenses, I take some long footage and then edit to remove out of focus areas. Thanks for qurry.
