Yeaaaaah buuuut sales can also mess up your moral compass and possibly leave you a broken nervous wreck when after a few years in you hit a rough patch. Sales can be fun, can develop character etc etc but it’s not like becoming a Buddha. Sry, that’s just hype so you work harder to make someone else money.

@Question Authority yeah I hear you now. Before I was just getting into sales now that Ive been into you're right it messes up your moral compass makes you do unethical things just "to get a sale" and essentially you're working hard to make your manager and the company money. Its a scam. Typical yt male ish of dangling low hanging fruit in front of you just to say at the end 'yours is the rot, you were never going to get this.'

The most helpful thing for me with door knocking is learning to enjoy it! You’re walking around talking to people instead of working your ass off or working in a cubicle. It’s complete freedom! Easy money! Before I get out of bed i PRIME my brain with positive thoughts for about 10 minutes and it helps set my day up for a positive one. Great video Adam!

LOVE IT Austin. I agree 100% about priming your brain. I do the same thing with a "meditation" of sorts. I also listen to Podcasts every morning while I do a daily stretching routine to loosen up. I learned this stuff from Brian Tracy who says the first hour of the day is like the "rutter" that will steer the rest of your day. Turn it in the right direction and the rest of the day will follow. Start off in the wrong direction (or reactive), and the entire day will turn out like that. I dig how you think, Austin!

@Name here the more doors you get under your belt. The sooner you will realize that those fast not interested doors 🚪 are the best because they go to your law of averages. 100 doors = (1) customer buying. You have to go knock em and do it with a positive mental attitude.!! I have been doing door to door energy sales in Texas since June 22, 2015.. customer : no thanks I’m not interested. ( Option 1 ) 🖐🏽 waive hand across left to right/right to left and smile while saying that’s not what this is about.... customer says what is it about ? ( go for the reason why you are there and eliminate any usual objections. And assure them you are the reason why you are there to get it taken care of. (Option 2) I understand you are not interested sir/ ma’am Your neighbor felt this way until he found out.... such and such..(whatever your selling) now he was glad he didn’t sick their dog 🐶 😂😂 .👈🏽 usually breaks the tense moment or at least let’s you know if you can build rapport or get to the point. Doing this 100x a day minimum you will achieve you daily and weekly goal!! And what ever you do before you knock the door picture yourself leaving that home waiving at The customer saying no worries it was my pleasure to help out. Have a great day I’m.(your name) walking away with that feeling after you bag your first sale of day or fifth sale. Which ever makes you feel greater!

Should you "give up" when someone says no? Give up is not quite the right words. "Move on" to the next door? 100% unequivocally YES. Pushy sales people are what give 100% of us professional salespeople a bad name. I've been in sales for over 30 years with more than 10 of those as a sales trainer. No means no. Move on. Don't be a Starfish. Starfish' egos are so big trying to impress everyone with their amazing sales skills they forget why they're their in the first place. To make sales. Finding a yes is far easier trying to turn a no into a yes. If you we're digging for gold and you came a cross a chunk of fools gold, would you polish it until you turned it into a gold nugget or would you move on and keep digging? Lastly, that 1 "No" you're trying to turn into a "yes" Mr. or Mrs. starfish... has neighbors. Those neighbors talk to each other. You piss off 1 neighbor trying to be a starfish, you've just ruined it for yourself and your team. Don't be a starfish. Ever. Its sleazy.
@TheRoofStrategist
@TheRoofStrategist 3 года назад
There's a ton of merit to what you have to say, Pat. I do think there's a reasonable way to engage that 1/10 times could turn that no into a YES. I believe using the tactics I teach are NOT pushy or aggressive at all. In fact, I think they meet people on a human level. And best of all, it gives the sales rep a win-win opportunity to self improve and practice. What do you think?

@WINTERHILLGANG617 I am usually a hard no when it comes to anything sold door to door because too many are high pressure and on the spot contracts, but your scenario is different. When it's a service like tree removal or trimming, gutter cleaning, power washing, roofing or things like that I will very likely be calling you later if you stop by and leave a card and it's something I was already thinking about doing. And, yes, neighbors absolutely do talk and compare services we've used.

I’m half to hear someone was sensitive like me in the beginning. One time an insurance agent yelled at me on the phone and I went home and slept and slept most of the next day because I was depressed from being yelled at. 🤣🤣: I’m going to do what you say and keep chugging in hopes that I develop thick skin. ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻

@TheRoofStrategist 3 года назад
Zach, so glad you are here man. You asked a question, "I know I’m capable of being great at this but I wander if my thin skin will ever turn thick." -- the answer is IT CAN! Honestly, it's a combination of EXPERIENCE and MINDSET. This video will help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AMauGbP-pks.html I get emails all the time from people who watch this video and use it as their "mantra" when they get treated like crap. I actually thought of my own advice just last weekend... I was parked at a stop light and saw a homeless person with a sign asking for help. My wife rolled the window down to offer some food (we had a box of "bars" with us) to offer him. He YELLED at us, "NO NO NO! F' NO! I have like 40 of those!" My wife and I got rather upset. Beggers can't be choosers, right? I mean hell, we were trying to feed a homeless person who was suffering. Clearly, the guy wanted cash for something... we know what. And it was hard, especially for my wife, to not take it personally. But when we take a step back, it had NOTHING to do with us. This guy was STRUGGLING. He was hurting for a fix. He needed money. He was so wrapped up in his own stuff that he didn't care how he broadcasted it to others. The offer could have come from anyone, and he would have responded the same way. The lesson here is that it ultimately has NOTHING to do with YOU. But we internalize it. SO we need to learn how to NOT internalize other people's internalizations. Feel me? Watch that video and it will all make sense :) Hope this helps dude! And last thing --- getting thicker skin will help you in dang-near every aspect of life. Embrace the challenge.

I looked and noticed she had considerable wind and hail damage. The daughter contacted her dad and her dad said he was on his way to get the claim filed. Well On the way over there he apparently contacted his agent and his insurance agent wasn’t happy that I found the damage. The owner had me call the agent and he was angry to say the least from the get go. He told me that it was unsolicited and said he’d send his own roofer to check it out and told me to F&$k off. At the time I had 0 experience and had to clue what was happening. I tucked my tail and ran.

Wouldn’t recommend trying to keep them talking. Don’t Waite your time on so Some who doesn’t even want to give you the time of day move on to someone who will. And that will increase your yes. Don’t spend that time trying to convince one person when in those 10 minutes you could have been a few houses down and gotten a yes by now. That time in someone who doesn’t want to give you theirs is a waste. You could have gotten a yes internet he same time your trying to take to convince someone. You only have a couple hours to be walking around door knocking and certain times of days people aren’t home. Be quick and fast. Find the Ideal homeowner to talk to and make that deal

Coming from someone who doesn't want people knocking on my door trying to sell me stuff, how do we gently tell you "No" in such a way that you will gracefully go away? I have been trained by so many door knockers that the only way to make them go away is to get rude, and I literally just want to be left alone and not have that conversation. Smooth talking manipulative door-to-door sales people have conditioned me and probably a lot of other people.
@brandihunter1518
@brandihunter1518 2 года назад
But sometimes people are resistant to hearing people out or think they don’t want information because it’s an auto reaction. Think about when you go to the store and the associate ask if you need anything…without even thinking it’s an quick automatic no even if you will need help.
@ByronBennett
@ByronBennett 2 года назад
@@brandihunter1518 Completely agree. The door answerer's reaction is often 100% automatic. It is like after you place your hand on a red hot stove head five or six times, you instinctively jerk your hand away the next time you see a red hot stove head. You've heard the "Oh, you've got a Boston Terrier, me too. Don't you just love how they snort when they're sleeping?" And if you've heard it enough, you now know there is no Boston Terrier on the other side and your defenses rise. The good news for d2d salespeople is that there are a lot of people who have only encountered the hot stove once or twice, so they will be susceptible. And when you encounter somebody who's been burned enough for the lesson to sink in, it is 100% not personal when they have the reaction. You can just go on to the next house with confidence that you've experienced a casualty of the d2d warriors who came before you. The bad news for the door answerer is that, if they're like me, they now have another stress-inducing memory to carry around with them for years to come. I don't like being rude, and doing so causes me significant stress. Even the memory of the encounter is super negative. And seeing RU-vid's suggested videos on the right-hand side of my screen teaching thousands of people how to do d2d tells me that when I go to answer the door, I'm dealing with a System, not a Person. People are literally being taught not to take No for an answer. They're being taught to look for the weaknesses that will allow them to get past defenses. The System dehumanizes the door answerer to a puzzle to be solved. "There is a path through the maze of defenses that leads to glorious dollars. Just find the right heart-string and give a gentle tug." I don't mind dealing with a Person at my door, someone who respects my right to say no and not have a stressful conversation where I am piece of meet in a cage with a lion trying to figure out how to get it unlocked. Unfortunately, I've been burned way too many times and my ability to distinguish a Person from the System is sadly 0%. My wife is still a sucker...we now have 5 new iPhones that we didn't need because she walked past a kiosk at Menards last week. Good news for d2d folks, the System works.

@@ByronBennett I want to thank you for your honest, raw, real response. This response that's coming is not some sort of tactic. You are not my customer. You are not a customer of anyone watching. I'm a human being on this end of the screen responding to a human being. I teach every single one of my people to RESPECT no-soliciting signs. Your home is your castle. If I see a no-soliciting sign, I'm not going to disregard it. That's downright rude. The ONLY exception to that rule is for a courtesy visit if I'm roofing the neighbors house and am giving you my information to call me should any debris or inconvenience enter your yard. I believe in taking care of our customers AND their neighbors. I also agree with you that D2D has a horrible rep. Most people put a "bullseye" on the homeowner. That sucks. It's not right. My "Just Cause" (the BIG mission I am on with my business) is to help each and every sales rep obtain the training and path to smashing their income goals WHILE giving each and every customer an AMAZING experience. Going D2D is a very, very, hard career. Mostly because of the personal tension and internal obstacles.There's a lot of rejection and unpleasant people. Clearly - that's not you. You just replied with a super thoughtful and true-to-life response, which I sincerely appreciate it. At the end of the day - the people I teach (and the companies who are attracted to my sales philosophies which are based on SERVICE, EDUCATION, and CONVERSATION) are providing sincere value to the people they serve. These are REAL people working to make an honest living with a servant's heart and are willing to face some really, really unpleasant scenarios to provide for their families. And no - not everyone is a customer. Same goes for every business in the world. I wish I could speak for all D2D sales people, but there are plenty out there who are downright disrespectful, pushy, and sleazy people who are trying to make a quick buck. Fortunately - those types of people typically don't like me or my style. Back to you -- My best advice is to hang a No Soliciting Sign. You also don't have to come to the door. If you have a ring door bell or something, answer through that. Tell people to respect your wishes of the No Soliciting Sign and close the door --- because it should have been respected to begin with. I wish I had a better answer for you - but unfortunately I'm in an industry with a not-so-great reputation and have a mountain to climb as I pursue my "just cause" to change that.

I know you explain them really well but I think it would also useful if we could see them being used in a real situation, like you could get the audio and have the camera recording from the truck so we can still see your body language. Idk just a thought🤷🏻‍♂️

Ugh. Home owners do NOT contract with door-to-door sales for a variety of VERY good reasons. Our homes and our lives are NOT a freaking GAME. We do NOT want to be BOTHERED by HIGH PRESSURE sales bs, and NO compliment will gain our TRUST. There IS no "while we're at it", compliments or humor will make us TRUST YOUR COMPANY. Owners want a personal experience, we rely on each other's references, and WE contact contractors for multiple bids when we NEED work. The companies who go door-to-door provide us with an over-priced quote, and unskilled subs to come do a horrible job. We ALL know it is just a SCAM, so PLEASE leave us alone, go to trade school, and become a trustworthy local INDEPENDANT contractor, and OUT-COMPETE you current rip-off company. Because THAT is how you ACTUALLY make money! Just get a REAL job. You get DOORS slammed in your faces because we refuse to pay your commission (thus over-priced quote), and will FIND someone when we NEED work, so "No thank you!" Can you blame us?

I would also say that instead of looking at it only from the lens of how this can benefit you, also keep in mind who you are talking to and be respectful of their time. Retired men, for instance, who were in a sales related field often enjoy a good conversation, have more time on their hands, and be more receptive than others. A woman who still has younger kids at home that she is trying to attend to will not be as appreciative of you trying to keep her at the door and engaged in conversation. Look around and pay attention to what's going on or not going on in the background to gauge whether or not this is the one you want to use to for your own personal growth. And for goodness sake, if there is a No Soliciting sign or a Day Sleeper Sign, please skip that house. Please.

I tell them what I got and what I can do for them and the value of it. And getting a no is a great thing per it will put you that much closer to your next sale, good luck to all....

Anytime you can compliment that, even if you don't know anything about gardens or plants can help create a serious connection and build rapport. One time I had a prospect who was buttoned up tighter than a you know-what-what. I couldn't get him to drop his guard down. Then I saw a deer rack mounted on a guys garage and started talking hunting and the entire energy shifted from combative to buddy-buddy. It works!

When you suggest role play, how do you prepare the person acting as the homeowner? Just be themselves? I was thinking about giving my wife a bunch of note cards with scenarios ideas to go off of. What's your top 10 list of role play starters for the homeowner.
@TheRoofStrategist
@TheRoofStrategist 3 года назад
GREAT questions. I'm stoked to see you committed to role play. It is the #1 BEST way to improve your skills. I'll be doing a video on this soon. In the meantime. I usually act as the homeowner and provide different scenarios. I start new people off with the basics where I "set the stage" for what we'll do. That way they get used to the role play. I set the scenario, and warm them up as to how to approach the door. Then I make it progressively harder. I spit objections out so they must adjust on the fly. If your wife is playing homeowner, I would do this: #1) Practice for EACH scenario: Approaching a door and the homeowner has NO CLAIM, PARTIAL PAYMENT, DENIAL, or CHECK IN HAND. That way you get used to it. #2) Make a list of your top objections (5-7) that she can choose at random at the door. #3) Practice canvassing different scenarios like the ones i teach in Your Complete Sales Strategy. Right after signing up a customer - when the job is scheduled - day of install - install complete - after the job is done and paid in full. Pretend you're working the neighbors/neighborhood to drum up more business. That should get you going :)

Hey Lance, you got this dude. Getting discouraged is SUPER normal. With the right mindset, you can shake it off. Watch this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AMauGbP-pks.html that should help a ton. Sending my best!

Super common in solar because it sounds too good to be true. Roof sales are a totally different animal. Sorry to hear you had a rough go at it dude.

Guy came to my door, gave me sob story about living on streets, drugs, turning his life around, and then asked for five minutes of my time. I said "I'm not interested, sorry" and then he actually got annoyed and accused >>ME

Started selling solar PPA recently and although I have a solid pitch and great communication skills I’ve yet to have any success, I’m having a lot of people saying they’ve spoken to solar guys about once a week and having troubles transitioning from there

I've been knocking doors for over a year in solar, top performer in my office. Sense of humor and being informative are key, plus building great expectations. The PPA is also a poor man's option, owning the system is the best thing in the long run.
