Watching the audience makes it clear that music for them was about losing oneself in the music and expanding their conciseness. My, how things have changed....
Yes. It's lovely to see folks sit back and listen to the music and not whip out their Instamatic camera or 8mm movie camera to record it for their scrapbooks and collection.
The 1ST seconds of THIS Tune just draws one in to listen 4 SURE.. A seminal prototype Band from the Bay Area it evokes EVERYTHING about "The Scene" back in 1967.. Many Bands encapsulate the sound of the Bay Area but for Me this takes top billing!!
You're right about the guitar at the end of the studio version. Whenever I listen to the song I inevitably have to rewind back the end a time or 2. It's such a delicious little tease fading out before I get my fill
When they played Woodstock, during their set, a gal behind me and my friends stood up and started screaming "Joe! I love you Joe!" He and Janis Joplin were together for a while, the love of his life, I heard him say in an interview. He had to break up with her because of her heroin habit.
I wish I had been a teen in the 60's too, but the 90's were fantastic, with all the Raves, clubs, Trip Hop, Industrial, Goth, Grunge, Lollapalooza, all the other rock concert tours, Social festivals, MTV still played music, great movies, think Quentin Tarantino, etc. There were so many forms of expression and I took as many of them in as I could.
Right. Must be this version people aren't so fond of. Definitely a must from the psychedelic movement back then Edit: nvm same version just different upload. Cool! 😎
@@bigtime2413 Section 43 was the first track of theirs I heard when I saw Monterey Pop about 40 years back, loved it and 30+ years later decided to finally check out more of their music. I've never looked back, love them :)
@@FiveGunsWest that's so cool. we had the album when i was about 12 living in Marin. Listening to this now becsuse i was telling my daughter asbout the I Ching!
Very suggestible. It goes beyond mere lyrical impositions - So many people does this song & lyrics apply to such psychic manipulations by persons who assume powers over others, and they, their subjects, allow & enable it. Still, a great song & performance.
Couldn't sing this today because we're no longer allowed to say anything about suicide... He sings the line "blow out my brain"... Nope, no longer allowed in society.
SWEET LADY OF DEATH WANTS ME TO DIE SO SHE CAN COME SIT BY MY BED SIDE AND EXPLAIN, WHAT IT WAS THAT CAUSED ME TO GO INSANE AND FINALLY BLOW OUT MY BRAINS!
They had albums reach #23 and #34 on the Billboard charts and Country Joe McDonald's solo album PARIS SESSIONS was one of the most critically acclaimed acoustic efforts of the era. You're either a troll or in the distinct minority.
