That is Griff Rhys Jones - he was a BBC radio producer and comedy writer until he was asked to do Not the Nine o Clock News. Curiously one of the programmes he produced was Top of the Form on which a young schoolboy Hugh Grant was a contestant. Bit of comedy trivia for you. You're welcome.
No he's dead? When did this happen? I had no idea. Mel Smiths died, has he really? Mel Smiths dead! No! Mel Smiths dead I didn't know that! Hey did you hear that folks? Mel Smiths dead! Yes really, Mel Smith is dead at least we still have Victoria Wood and Caroline Aherne to laugh at! What?! Hang on a miniute! No! Them too. Never!
@@gowangoldy8515 He said "another Cayman penny blue". The expression "THE Cayman penny blue" indicates that that's a unique postage stamp, and bringing up another piece of something that should only exist once implies that one of them is fake, if not both.
Good old Rowan Atkinson. The only sane man left in Britain. And having spent much more time around hospitals in the last 6 years than I care to mention, I totally relate to that sketch. Come to think of it, I also relate to the Belgium bits as well.
He can back up all of his intelligence with the novels he's written and papers he's peer reviewed, what have you got to show for it, snarky comments on youtube?@@timewalker6654
I'm glad i checked the comments before I said the same thing! Funnily enough, the Belgian chargé d'affaires would probably be happier eating 'horse willy' than his French ancestor :)
*Guido Motshangen:* Rowan Atkinson was the Chief Inspector in the brief 2016 series, _Maigret,_ set in 1950s France. Each of its two series only consist of two episodes; it was cancelled by the network.
Man, why can't comedy be like this these days! This shows serious talent, ideas with thought to them. Comedy these days, most of the time, is simply about making an ass of people. Thank goodness we can watch these over and over again, cause they never go out of date:)
Hammern28 Just as to consider and ponder, the weight of the vocabulary used and the skill in which it is, has run off a cliff in 2017 comedy. I do in my mind, while laughing at their jokes, think how good use of the English language is done in the NTNOCN and is still, in British comedy. I really hope that it doesn't erode away.
That's a comparative word---my experience goes back 70 years, and today's efforts are poor, but put this down to the grey death-like hand of the PC loonies.
Le Compte de Fru Fru reappears in Blackadder the Third as an impoverished nobleman escaping the French revolution and reduced to eating horse Willie's at Mrs Miggins pie shoppe.

Memorable comedy that kindalingas 😆 Now that shows my age, having watched this show since it's first airing. Now where's pam and my American express card 😍
I can't explain why but the beginning of the Glee sketch is like ASMR to me, I would literally just watch a video about that guy talking about his toothpaste lmao
I lived in Belgium for 15 years and never had a bad meal when eating out. The standard of its cuisine is one of the many hidden surprises of the country.
@@hunterluxton5976 No, I’m very British, I’m a huge NTNOCN fan, and I get the humour fully. I also know Belgium and its cuisine very well. Nothing in my comment negates the humour. I’ll let any Americans out there respond to the implications for them of your comment. Personally I think Americans have produced some of the very best humour of our times.
It's a crime that Not the 9 o'clock News isn't available to buy in its entirety. There are so many superb sketches left in the vaults, purely because it's believed that today's audiences wouldn't be familiar with or care about the often contemporary political satires featured on the show. We've all heard about Thatcher, right? That's all you need to know.

@@hasan_z Yes, there are few episodes here and there, and also the compilation that was released years ago. But if you want the complete series, you're out of luck. I honestly have no idea who could possibly have a copy of the tapes. Not unless there are some old Betamax copies in a basement somewhere...
Blahblahblah Blah they all bid on a stamp they expected to be very rare and valuable, but then with the punchline we see that they are very common and not unique essentially and he just wasted 8 million pounds
@@billowen3285 WELL-- there are, such rare, and often UNIQUE items, that any big collecter would know about. and never expect to see up for auction, so--for ANOTHER ONE, to be so casually announced, would be a shock, and devalue the first one, straight away.
Hello from France, I just found out that Mr Atkinson had a télévision existense before impersonating Mr Bean. This is so odd and funny. Just as at beginning of all Mr Bean épisodes, i thought he just appeared out of nowhere . Never crossed my mind that he most likely had a career before Bean 😂
Incidentally the Le Comte de Frou Frou is a name that reappears in an episode of Black Adder the Third, I think it was the 3rd episode with the Scarlet Pimpernel.
