Thanks for sharing. I learn so much from watching your videos, and enjoy the way you describe your thinking process. I was going to build myself a new workbench but have now changed my mind and want to do something like this. I like the portable aspect of what you've made and yet still get the stability and clamping options as a normal workbench.

Great designs, Jay. I was thinking they appear to be quite light, but you addressed that. Something like this would be a great option for a small garage woodworker like myself.

Nice design! Quick tip for the end clamp at about 9:29. Put a nut on the bolt before cutting the head off. When you take the nut off, it'll fix the threads that might have been damaged from the cut.

This has to be one of the most timely projects I've ever run into. I was just trying to sketch out something similar to your traditional work horse for my very crowded garage workshop. Now I can refrain from burning my brain cells and defer to your well conceived design. Thank you my friend!! Cheers, dave

This is genius. I was about to attemp a Moravian workbench because it knocks down-I have very little shop space-but this is most of that functionality in a tiny form factor. And its cheap, so I could use this a while and decide later if an upgrade is really needed or not.

Amazing build that is incredible versatile. It just dawned on me, and it might be an easy upgrade that is not in the way when you don't need it and i'm far to inexperienced to just do it so i'll share it for you instead. On all four legs, cut a foot in length of the same material as the legs are, but make them slideable and be able to rotate them so they stick out flat on the floor. When you don't need them, just flip them up and fasten with a hook or similar. That yould give the table the support it needs in that direction, only when you need it. Fast and easy to fold and unfold. And from what i can see, they would not be in the way when unused either. Think of them as foldable stabilisers. Thanks for the video.

First time watcher of one of your videos and that clone in your glue up tripped me out. Anyways, this is exactly what I need. Workbench functionality without the size. Not able to dedicate my entire garage to my hobbies since I'm not the only person that makes decisions in my house. Btw, I enjoy your humor...off-grid, calorie burning, work plant. Keep it up and take care.

Definitely need to build myself one now! Around 18:00, I think I would want to add a middle row of dog-holes and use a two dogs on one side with the clamp on the other in the middle set of holes to provide 3 stable points of contact.

Top tip. A layer of cork or vinyl added to the bottom of the legs makes a small bench like this much more stable to work on. The added friction helps to prevent the bench from skating off across the workshop floor, reducing the need for sandbags. Another thought. If you still need extra weight, go make friends with whoever is in charge of your local dump/recycling center. Ask them to keep an eye out for weightlifting weights - not the cast iron ones, they are easily recycled, but the cheapo plaster filled plastic ones that usually end up in landfill. I've done this in the past & ended up with 50kg+ of weights for free. Better for the environment too...

This is a nice design Jay! Another youtuber (think It was Wortheffort) pointed out that any bench that is lacking mass can be fastened to a large sheet of plywood/OSB - your weight then standing on the plywood is more than enough to keep it from walking around on you!

I think this is honestly brilliant. I was debating on what kind of new saw horses to make and this really closed that debate in my mind. But it really makes me question the whole bench issue. Do you really need a full bench if you don't do a ton of hand tool work? I was planning to build a Moravian bench simply because I don't need the massive structure of a Roubo and I like the portability of the Moravian. This is basically a mini-Moravian with the legs splayed to the sides instead of on the ends. A more portable, cheaper and easier to build mini-Moravian...
