@@ProliantLife He took his teams to the playoffs year after year, and only missed when Yao and T-Mac went down. Not a HOF coach, but definitely not a bum coach either.
ufster81 the thing is, JVG understands the game of basketball on a different level than anyone who is a data miner. There’s merit in the Moneyball type of GM... but Van Gundy doesn’t give a fuck and he’ll let everyone know lol
@Stannis Baratheon Either the list is useless, or the list is good and Paul is extremely underrated. U cant really accept the list but leave cp3 out off it
@@SethKasso its just a dumb stat. if Herro Has another similar game where he drops 30+ and gets another -3, then has a game like i believe it was iggy a few years back who played 5 mins 0 shots 0 rebs 0 stl 0 blk and had a +25. he would have to have 9 games of -3 to lose his + stat where as Herro can have 2 bad +/-games and end up with a -9. he would then need 4 games w/+3 to end up in positive light. so iggy had 6 straight bad games he would have a positive +/- but herro who had 6 straight good games would have a - score
he is on Around the horn. he is a meh guy to me, doesn't do anything interesting or anything really junk. this seems out of character to the guy i used to see on Highly Questionable
Oskiii “Get him anywhere” really? Klay at times has been the 3rd and 4th best player on his team at times. Of course he will go further than dame. What would klay do on a team where he’s the best player?
Oskiii dude, look at the rosters tf 😂 even though I like klay Thompson don’t compare their playoff runs. Put klay on the blazers instead of lillard and see what happens
Love to see real basketball guys putting these advanced stats nerds in their place. You cant just make up new stats all the time then not watch the games and act like you know everything based of those stats
Yeah it was fun and everything until my Rockets decide to build a whole ass team based on numbers. Made me hate watching my team and expect a disappointing exit every year
@@tiji905 oh ok, ima be honest I only seen one or two heat games during the regular season, even tho i seen most of their playoff games... but thats why im not a voter either lol
I felt kinda bad about the writer but to be honest, this is what it comes down to today when it comes to sports analysis. You have these people who sit around all day and read stat sheets, sometimes they watch parts of games, and they are paid to form opinions on stuff that they although have some knowledge on, have vey little practical experience in. As sports writers and analysts, they're paid to say outrageous things that are more often than not more interesting than they are true, and they're paid more if they're good at protecting their narratives. Colin Cowherd is an example of this. Dude knows basketball, but what really kills me is, he's used to first coming up with a point, and then focus on some mindless detail and disregard everything else so he makes some sense on his show. It shouldn't be like this. Everybody should be paid to tell the truths.
If I recall correctly, it wasn't that long ago that ESPN had Ronda Rousey on the top 10 list of greatest athletes. Do those guys ever get anything right?
That’s like saying Dennis Rodman wasn’t supposed to be an all star. My man plays his role at the highest level. What else do you want him to do anyways, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
well Klay is averaging 22.3 per game despite being the 3rd option. he is shooting 41% from 3 and 51% from 2p. Lillard, on the other hand, is averaging 27 as a first option lol, shooting 35% from 3 and 49% from 2p. so basically klay would average 30 point if he took the same shots as Lillard (just projection). also, Lillard can't guard a can of coke.
mikediao15 but he is the only player on the team he is making shots for himself and taking most the shots himself klay on the other hand klay has curry and kd to put some relief on klay by making him open
mikediao15 false. Klay would lose every advantage by being a primary option. He wouldn’t shoot a high percentage, sure he’d score more but he wouldn’t play as much defense
I guess we're all going to let the entire conversation distract us from the *142* points on the board by the Warriors with still a minute left to play. lol. Where tf was the defense???
Wtf you want a team to do when they're going against 2 50/40/90 members who are both mvps and a third option who can hit 14 threes in a game and drop 50 on you by doing nothing but catch and shoot.
My favorite part is when I completely agree with Jeff, I was thinking “12 guys?” while Israel was talking and then Jeff showed that he was thinking the same thing lmao
He’s not wrong when it comes to stats but the allstar voting is always weird. Sometimes they favor individual stats, sometimes they favor team success.
Its funny how great perimeter defenders can get disadvantaged by the plus minus stat sometimes, especially on great offensive teams. if you sick 1 guy on the opponents best player, hes going to be on the court going against the best guy all the time...so yeah, every other player on that team will have a nice rotation spending some minutes going against second unit guys, but your stopper will spend all his time against a superstar.
Mark Jackson is so upset because he's the father of this team. Steve Kerr got handed a team that had been meticulously DRAFTED AND BUILT over a few years.
Mark Jackson really should have kept religion out of it. It fractured the lockerroom, it turned management against him, it basically got him blackballed from coaching ever again.
He really wasnt that good of a coach. They could defend, yes, sort of. But they had no offense system. Literally none. Kerr came in and implemented one
@@miguel151420 preach! Don't care that the warriors improved in wins with him on the helm. His offense was dull and iso-heavy compared to what kerr implemented. Mind you, even after incorporating KD's isolations, the offense was a lot less stagnant since there's plenty of movement done off-ball while KD does his thing.
People always disrespect klay because he is the third option on gsw. And I think that is absolute bull. I much rather be the third best option (by far) on one of the best dynasties in NBA history than the first option on a forgetable mediocre team that will get lost in the record books.
Izzy obviously meant 12 guys in the NBA ahead of him (including durant, steph, harden, westbrook, etc). He didnt mean 12 MORE guys. Izzy's point is that he shouldnt have made the all star team, meaning there were 12 guys better this year.. not 24
He did. He literally said it at the end. He said he's a great player and a great asset to the team, but there were 12 players that should've made it over him.
Jeff Van Gundy is also talking to most of you that comment on youtube videos talking about basketball when you try bringing up advanced stats to claim one player is better than the other lol
The media knows nothing, remember when Marc Gasol made All 2nd Defense and won DPOY. The media decided the DPOY and the coaches decided the Defensive Team.
Incorrect, they are a tool like anything else that can be used for player evaluation. However, just like statistics in any other situation, they need context. The teams that use analytics the best combine them with all other facets of coaching and scouting to properly evaluate a player. For example, a player's statistics can drop from year to year, but you have to look at the context. Who is that player playing with? Has his usage dropped? Do they have a new coach? Are they recovering from some sort of injury? Did the team acquire a new player taking away minutes from him? And on and on. The problem with this analysis is that the person looked solely at the stats without applying proper context.
It still boggles my mind that media members and writers get a voice/vote for All-NBA teams and annual awards. This clearly proves how flawed the system is. It’s media narrative that drives the popularity contest.
When you use plus minus as a pure indicator I’m not listening to you. Sure it works to see how a person played in one game but a hot streak of threes from the opponent ruins a plus minus.
And yet, somehow, the most prestigous individul regualr season award is voted on by the media, which, I assume, includes a lot of these "writers". Mindboggling and is precisely why MVP means squat and has for many many years.
This was a few years ago. They lost to the Cavs in the Finals this year. Varejao was going to get a ring from Cleveland since he was on the team for the first half of the season, but he turned it down.
Tony Bass No. They lost with Varejao (trash) in 2016. This was the 2016-17 season after acquiring KD, waiving Varejao during the season, & winning the chip in 2017.
Plus minus stat, if they choose to keep it, should be revised how they derive it. If you watch full games, the plus minus stat doesn’t tell the whole story how a player is playing, if they are actually playing good or bad, heck there are times is completely opposite from the actual game
klay thompson I would love to see him as a 1st 2nd option. I think he is going to go OFF this year with Golden State. 3 pt records beware because he will not be taking it to the basket as much coming off the ACL
