It’ll be a close game. Hoping my Ags can pull out a win, it would be a great start to the Elko era. Glad yall are back and hope Daniel has a speedy recovery!

I don’t disagree with the overall substance of your argument, but I do find it funny that I see a bunch of commentators citing ND’s own defense against Leonard as evidence he can’t pass against top teams. ND had, quite literally, the #1 pass defense in the country last year - no one had success passing on us. ND might be even better against the pass this year, BTW.

The NIL fiasco was proved completely false at A&M. Jimbo had a good relationship with this class. Those relationships along with a bunch of coaching changes at schools like Miami and OU played into A&M's favor. Many of these guys were injured in high school so places like OU, Bama, and UGA passed on them even with the 5* ratings. Some still haven't played much in college due to those injuries.

This game is a bigger deal for Freeman and my Irish. We’re a program of ‘almost’ for close to my entire life. Need to win this type of game. I say this hoping Elko succeeds in his career, just not on Saturday. Go Irish!

Told you NDs defense would stop A&M's offense. A/M OL couldn't move ND and ND DBs totally shut down Aggies.

There are two things i think about in this game. The first is that ND doesn't have to field poor players. They are all talented, experienced or both. The second is that ND has seven 5th or 6th year seniors on their defense and they are all in the front seven. In another time these guys would be playing on Sundays. Youth in the secondary won't be a liability if the QB is running for his life.

I think this is the trickiest game to take on this weekend. Since the game is being played @Kyle field, ima go with the Aggies 23-14. Notre Dame's O Line may have their hands full with this A&M defensive line. But alot of people thought FSU's defensive line was the greatest since the invention of football, soooo yeah. #Gigem

Hard to disagree with much here, but I did have one question. While no one is arguing that A&M's defense will improve (probably dramatically) under Elko, there are a lot of transfers starting and a brand new coaching staff that may not be firing on all cylinders in game 1. Does that lead you to downgrade your expectations for their performance in this game, or do you see them overwhelming ND's brand new offensive line regardless?
@CollegeFootballNerds
@CollegeFootballNerds Месяц назад
It’s always hard to say, but what we saw at FSU in 2023 is if the transfers were genuine all-conference players previously, they tend to be good immediately. (And in 2024 we saw that former backups even from Bama tend to look likely newly minted / inexperienced starters).
@corykelley5534
@corykelley5534 Месяц назад
Agreed with this, I'll flip it though, because it can/does go both ways. Why aren't more people arguing that Denbrock (who coached the best offense in the nation last year) will drastically improve ND's offense this year, an offense that has upgraded the WR room and has a lot more speed overall in the backfield + a dynamic QB.
@dbenedict357
@dbenedict357 Месяц назад
@@corykelley5534 but as the OP pointed out about A&M having first year system.. the QB also is in 1st year of this system. Had this been last year would have given edge to ND.. but with it being in CS.. I feel it is a toss up and will be a close game.
@Chrislw35
@Chrislw35 Месяц назад
@@CollegeFootballNerds But,,, A&M transfers in the back end are not great. Maybe not even average. A&M will not be able to stop guys like Greathouse, Mitchell, Collins etc. ND mass protects and one on one wins vs. A&M DBs. for enough big plays to seal the game while A&M cannot score vs. ND Defense.
@mikephillips4475
@mikephillips4475 Месяц назад
@@corykelley5534bc although it seems ND improved the WR room, I don’t think they will have much time to get the ball downfield with this very inexperienced OL in one of the loudest stadiums in the country. The QB is a dynamic player, but coming off injury and he didn’t even get spring ball in a new program. He’s also more of a threat running than throwing the ball downfield. I think later in the season ND offense will be much better, but this is not the environment or DL you want to break in a new OL with 6 career combined starts against!

Just saw Daniel is off the respirator. Great news! Now time for the bad news, your opinion is wrong. Notre Dame 20, Cultists 17. I think our defense keeps us in the game long enough for us to create some big plays against the mercenary secondary.

As a horn I'll be happy with either outcome. Aggie win means they get an inflated ego for most of the season. Aggie loss and they get ridiculed. I don't think the Irish are prepared for a night game at kyle field. Sorry ND bros.

@marshallc4035 Месяц назад
I don’t think A&M gets ridiculed if they lose. It’s the first game under a new HC. Unless they get blown out. On the other hand if A&M were to blow out ND people would wonder “what is wrong with the ND program” and likely not establish credibility to A&M. Interesting game either way.

@@Chrislw35I’ve been to games at both A&M and OSU. Kyle Field is MUCH louder!!! I’m personally not saying ND hasn’t played any good teams or in any big stadiums but they also haven’t won those games. Like OSU they lost (a close game) last year. Someone gave a stat today on TexAg radio today that ND is like 0-9 on the road with 90k plus attendance over the last x years (I forgot how many years that was). Sure, those are all good teams they played, but still an interesting stat.
