Novak was right. They are looking for a story to spin drama into. Novak was having none of it. Everything Novak said made sense. He was calm, articulate, professional, and made the reporter look small.
@DCD He's 100% right, why else would you make such a stupid comment? Every tennis player has devoted fans - whether its Federer, Djokovic, Nadal - who get annoyed by retarded and loaded fake news questions from moronic reporters trying to get a reaction.
Novak sure was trying his best to avoid hashing through the deliberations via the press...pretty nervy of the reporter to think he should be privy to those discussions anyway - the press really grates on my nerves with their hubris in thinking that they have to have an ear (and voice) in these sorts of deliberations, as if they are a necessary monitor of the process and outcome. Their reputation has never been great, and is sinking by the day, and this journalist is a perfect example of that.
What I like about this interview is that Novak could have allowed the PR guy to move on with different questions from another journalist but at least he stood his ground and went toe to toe with this guy
yes, the main difference between Novak and other guys on the court is ....They are only tennis players, and Novak is a human being who works very hard on its self in every aspect of life every single day and he only currently playing tennis
@@miroslavvarga3707 Wow, the arrogance of Novak fans always astound me. You're putting your guy on a pedestal while demeaning all the others. That's one of the main reasons Novak's fan base is the most hated one and he has no crowd support when playing Nadal or Federer. You guys act religious about it and think of him as a God. He is a human being? And the others are not? Nadal or Federer or Murray don't work on themselves in aspects of life other than tennis? Do you actually follow tennis or just Novak? Ignorance and arrogance are not a great combination. Inability to recognize the greatness of your fellow champions is not what Novak does, it's just his stupid fanbase that does that. You should look up to your idol more and see how he speaks about others.
@Aston Martin 23, now explain how is that relevant and why should I waste another second on your worthless, childish ass who watches sports to compensate for his incompetences which makes him frustrated as can be seen from his comments?
Novak is one of the most articulate, intelligent, charming and impressive sportsmen.... on top of being one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Wow, what an understanding and respect Novak has for the Association of tennis as a whole. His maturity has grown so much. World class response from a world class player.
@@user-pn3fb9eo5i no, it's just that the journo in question is Ben Rothenberg, and he is a known Novak hater in tennis circles. He just comes across as a huge douchebag all the time, lacks any sort of neutrality, acts smug when he speaks, and uses every opportunity to smear players he doesn't like, and Novak is one of them. Novak should just ignore him completely.
Yes, that's the guy, Ben Rotenberg. I recognised his voice. He has his own agenda, he run his podcast about tennis gossip, so the more controversial he become, the better for him. It's all business for him. I thought Novak handle him nicely.
Ben Rothenberg has never been objective, he is always looking for salacious news items. Very different from other respected journalists covering tennis.
So glad I watched the whole thing. He handled himself very well. Very different to the hot head, brash character some always try to portray him to be. It's hard to remain calm and respectful when you have reason to believe a person has a hidden agenda/ a specific negative storyline they want to pursue.
This guy won 15 slams (so far) and broke so many records. If you believe that some random journalist will distract him, you shouldn't worry. If anyone out of top 3, he went through this type of stuff his whole career, he's mastered it.
Isn't it amazing how articulate he speaks when English isn't his first language. Compare this to a post match interviews given by English footballers who struggle to put a sentence together.
That journalist sounds like it was Ben Rothenberg who writes for the New York Times and has his own tennis podcast show. He never paints Novak in a positive light and never has been a big fan of him.
Galloping Nuns a lot of people don't recognize the difficulty in arguing with someone in your 2nd language, especially if the subject is quite complex, I am glad that you acknowledge this
@@alejandroimirizaldu9093 that's true; the nuances of language are very complex when trying to win any argument; the use of wit, one's fluidity & choice of words are often as important to effective repartee as the argument itself! I speak French & Italian but I wouldn't feel confident in an argument with native speakers... ...English, on the other hand? Well, try me - I'll rip you a brand, spanking new one! 😂
The western media to be precise, they despise the fact that a Slav(a Serb especially) is becoming the GOAT of the famous white sport. They even hired that Pepe Imaz fake guru to brainwash Novak through his brother and wife. tennistonic.com/tennis-news/61295/is-pepe-imaz-novak-djokovics-problem/
I've no idea about the who is wrong & who is right on this. What I do know is that Novak's English is way better than mine. And it's my first language.
Put the reporter in his place. I personally think though Nole should stay away from such questions, seems like a deliberate ploy to distract/malign him by some agenda driven journalists.
As Novak hinted, tennis (same as general) journalism is too clickbaity and irresponsible for him to have fully open communication, these folks tend to pull words out of context, create drama and all that. Plus I guess he is irritated by quite some sensationalistic hit pieces written against him recently, say Guardian's "series" come to mind (speaking of agenda...). Also his position in the council and the No1 rank in sport do oblige in ways people can't or don't want to understand. Pointing fingers and asking questions is the easiest thing in the world and that journo was obviously trying to provoke him. What I am ACTUALLY interested in are neither Justin nor Chris, but Nole's attempt to re-distribute money towards "lesser" players and young talents that would otherwise quit - we are potentially talking about thousands of players and hundreds of millions of money. As usual in politics, whenever someone tries to touch the money - hit pieces and smears start; and of course the given reasons almost always have nothing to do with the real topic.
@@GamesJoblin Yes, I think out of the 100s of articles, there was probably only 1 that actually interviewed a lower rank player and got their opinion, who was obviously in favour of Novak. None of the other so called journalists wanted to show the real side of Novak, very sad. I guess keep winning titles and shut their mouths.
It's a big question what they consider by giving more money to young players, how far would that go. Tennis is and always was sport for wealthy people. I'm afraid he's gonna bring some trashy guys into tennis by this change.. it's very tricky.
@@goxyeagle8446 I can tell you that all the younger Serbian players having some success on tour now (Djere, Krajinovic, Kecmanovic) did not come from wealth and privilege. The same goes for Novak. I agree with you that it is tricky, but putting some extra money in the pockets of younger guys will give them motivation to continue playing (including travel and expenses related to being a professional tennis player) and dream big.
@@goxyeagle8446 As @Branko Miladinovic said, sometimes just a plane ticket or a couple nights in the hotel can mean a world of difference to a talented beginner. The tricky part is to separate some rich folks from "their" money, rather than how to re-distribute (the simplest way appears to be by increasing the lower rewards).
Sure. But this is nothing compared to the way some (if not most) of these journalists pick on Nadal. They do not show Nadal the kind of respect that they show to Djokovic and Federer. They write lots of negative articles about him.
@@beniteztheconman Well hey, that's your opinion. I do understand that we live in a world in which some (if not most) people determine whether or not a person is likeable just by taking ONE LOOK at the individual. If they like what they see, they like the individual. On the other hand, some folks do not even want to show the person respect, if they do not like what they see. Much like the rest of us, Nadal isn't perfect. There are some things about him that even I as a fan do not like. But when I put the plus and minuses together, I find that there is more that I LIKE than what I DISLIKE, regarding Nadal. That is how I determine whether or not a person is "likeable."
@@TheTmat007 i have a different system. If i see someone has zero personality and is a cheating cunt who will do anything to win.... i tend not to like them.
@@beniteztheconman So, how is Nadal a "cheating cunt who will do anything to win"? Please explain. And his refusal to smash his racket like some other players do (Djokovic, including), when they're being outplayed by their opponent, is part of what you would describe as having "zero personality"? To me, amongst the Big 3, Nadal has the finest personality. And I'm sure even Federer would agree. After all, back at the 2009 AO trophy presentation, it was Nadal's kind and encouraging words that gave a tearful Federer the courage or motivation to get back on stage and finish his speech. Nadal is amongst the most humble and nicest athletes and persons. But I do find that he needs to work on the amount of time he takes between points (although it has been better since they enforced the shot clock). And I am also not a fan of the rituals that he does on court. But for me, those things don't make him "unlikeable."
Some so called “journalists” are pathetic and making himself like a joke! 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️Novak reacts in a reasonable way instead of avoiding it! This is how a true Champion to behave and that’s why we love you unconditionally!! ❤️❤️ Forget about the non-sense and get ready for Rome and Paris!! All the best!!!💪💪💪🏆🏆
tennisblood ben Rotherberg A clown American Journalist who always tweet bad about Novak, After this interview he’s even not tweeting single word about this
Well if the media leave him alone. So goodbye to the millions of dollars his making per year. He would be leaving in a low cost flat rather than a bungalow. Hate the media so much, but look at how rich he is. Better be careful with ur wishes.
@@ambk286 Oh come on. Without all those TV time he is getting, his press coverage on megazines and sports websites, if it wasnt for ESPN, Eurosports, etc broadcasting tennis matches and connecting tennis to million of fans. He wouldnt get a fraction of what he's getting right now. I really am sick of rude celebrities who cant handle bad questions. All they have to do is just to put on a smile and be diplomatic. Be professional and he gets millions. Meanwhile I got screwed everyday by my bully boss and all I get is crappy salary. When u have become rich, at least show some appreciation to the people who have give u gold and diamonds.
fix ,again I am saying about the portion of media who are asking questions and spreading fake news saying he is arrogant and when he lost a match it’s like a big thing .. have you ever observed news when he lost the match .. it’s biased and as a fan I am saying my opinion ... media shouldn’t be biased just give the news as it is ..
Jack we are now in 2022 and nothing in that respect has changed. If journalists had done their homework, humanity would not be in such a mess which we see today!
I don't even like Novak but he shouldn't have even given the question the time of day. Real stupidity from the journalist and Novak handled the madness well.
It's those times that you realize someone is smarter and more logical than you and you try to argue but keeps making you look like an idiot. That reporter is in quicksand. Respect for Nole.
I like Djokovic very much. He is mostly/always doing his very best in as good as possible English to respond the press (his English us very good). Always motivated, sincere, philosopheeing. Must take a lot of energy. Deserves to be the new GS-recordholder of mens tennis. If it will happen we have to wait and see.
Ben is a clown! I hope Novak never talk to him after this, he deserves nothing but ignoring. Novak handled him perfectly and you can see how bad he felt when he asked the question. We All love and adore you Nole! Roland Garros is ours!
Novak called him and the media out. He’s so smart. Journalists, you should collect your facts and then write your stories instead of making questionable assertions. That’s not news.
Love you nole. You are a champion on and off the court.. Keep doing the good stuff and keep winning trophies. One day those idiots will realize and admire you. Until then let them be idiots . you are always our HERO
Top marks, Nole! - not just as a top tennis player but in how you so eloquently handle all the difficult (and sometimes irritating) questions by the media
He really did so well to answer that discussion,if he's the right guy to be president of the council,I don't know, but he's definitely a honest person and I sure he wants the best for the sport, and I agree with him about them putting a lot of pressure in one guy just because he's the leader, they need to analise all the process before making a fuss about a story, despite all those problems off court,Novak still playing some good tennis and I think that's what he needs to worry,no so much in ATP politics.
He is a known Djokovic hater. Everyone who follows the world of tennis know that dude, and he always paints Djokovic in bad light. The name is Ben Rothenberg btw.
Chuck the discussion about the technicalities for a moment, even though Nole meticulously explained them, just the sheer, intentional targetting and restlessness of the journalist says a lot about his motivations. People like that should just get lost!
Nole is the real example of an intelligent and educated boy, great athlete. His answers prove it.I do not talk about tennis results..because everyone know how much he is good.He is real champion...And this journalist is not professional and objective. As much he does not like Novak, he should have respect for champion...Novak have respect for him as soon as he answers questions. There is Novak's size...that journalist can learn something from Novak .... such as professionalism and respect for who you are.Nole you are the best...stay calm like always and do not let it provoke a fool.
Am ashamed to be British watching this/following the whole Kermode saga. Disgraceful treatment of Djokovic by British media and Rothenberg et al. They're always (unfairly) out to get him. Hope people realise this isn't attitude of British people at large....... Only British journalist who is ever honest on Djokovic is Matthew Syed. Hope Novak proves them wrong in next few months #goat
Champ needs to focus on playing tennis and forget this players council and being president of that bullshit irrelevant council, he Must win both Rome and French open trophy to break 2 more records.. 1st man to win all 4 grand slams in a row consecutively more than twice and Most 1000 masters won ever .
Nole is great! Not only in tennis, but also in IQ! I'd like to pay more to watch him playing tennis! And I'd like to pay even more to listen his seminar in the future! Tennis need Novak! Fans need Novak!
They don't have to ask Roger or Rafa. Those two are more than happy to start talking about the council on their own. 😂 Ever since the Aussie Open . It worked for some time to derail Novak. But he is now handling it better.
Disgusting british soap opera media, Novak should just completely shut them out and never answer these kinds of questions. They are just trying to provoke him, and he is letting them do it.
Ben Rothenberg is NOT British. I though Novak actually did a great job not getting provoked, or at least not showing it. I wish he could avoid all the politics, but obviously wanted to have his say.
Novak is the best player, the most intelligent and cultivated, besides having great sense of humor. Journalists always attack him in favor of Fed and Nadal. Nothing new here. Keep It Up Champion.
Best player- debatable Most intelligent and cultivated- absolutely not Great sense of humour- when it suits him, definitely not Those comments don’t help him, just elevates him to something he isn’t.I admire and respect Novak, yes he is a fantastic player, but his comments, demeanour of late has been pretty ‘bolshy’ A more intelligent and cultivated player wouldn’t rise to the ridiculous comments of these idiotic press questions- has Federer,Nadal,Isner,Murrayto name a few ever risen to the bait? No Novak concentrate on what you do best- playing tennis!!
No, even fed and nadal also had hard time in press. Go and watch it If you are president, then questions will ask to you and he handled very well Nothing bias in this
