What a perfect answer! Playing pro hockey, and having hockey players as my role models growing up, Novak has now become a true sports icon and role model in my eyes. Having met him twice, I can say it was an absolute pleasure and he’s so fun in person. Positive energy
You obviously ignore all his poor behaviour, hitting lines women in the throat, tricking customs to get into countries and disobeying federal regulations, which all other tennis players and other athletes in other fields follow. Tantrums in the courts, breaking rackets. He's a great tennis player, but he's no role model.
@@mars27970It's so malicious to say he hit the lineswoman, as if he did it on purpose, which he didn't. Also, he didn't trick the customs, they tricked him.
@@mars27970 so what? I’ve broken a hockey stick in the heat of competition but I’m also a guy that helps an old lady cross the street and donate my earnings to help kids in need. Roger Federer is a God in most people’s eyes and he’s hit both a fan and a ball kid in the head (I still love him too). Maybe he’s not perfect but he’s absolutely a role model for many. His positive messages to young children (and old) to follow their dreams is admirable. Straight from the heart and he’s prime example. Let’s just agree to disagree.
I’ve been privileged in my life to watch all the great players McEnroe, Borg, connors Lendl in the early days and recently Djokovic, nadal.federer and also now some great youngsters coming through to keep us entertained, can’t wait for Wimbledon watching on a sunny day with some strawberries and cream, so thanks all you great tennis stars
SAME HERE, I am so glad to see the Goat win Gold at the age of 37, who does that? and 24 slams to his name, he also missed opportunities due to his stance on not getting the jab and was also disqualified in the US Open for hitting a crybaby ball girl.
@F5 Anabolic both Federer and Djokovic got slams during weak era, Fed during 01-06/07 weak era and Djokovic during 2019/20-now weak era. There is nothing more competitive about present times in terms of Grand Slams tournaments than 2 decades before. The young guys are shit in 5-setters, the old guys are simply shit/semi-retired.
@F5 Anabolic Let's also note that Novak has won 11 slams (and counting) AFTER turning 30. At the rate he's going, it's possible that he'll end up winning more slams AFTER having turned 30 than Sampras won BEFORE turning 30! I see only two possible explanations: near-zero competition or Djoko is Benjamin Button. *I* know which one sounds more plausible.
@@marton8288 Federer was not winning partly because others were winning and there can only be one winner per tournament. He retired last year. And considering the adulation of Federer by the crowds and their animosity against Djokovic, it is fair to say that the latter has faced a far greater challenge than the former throughout his career.
It's even simpler Roger, Rafa, Novak are all linked together, it does not matter whose the best or who have more titles! These three men are the face of tennis history! Lets just appreciate and be thankful that we are bless to witness Greatness!
Roger was a bit similar to this. When he got to 20 slams he proudly had this achievement as his top pinned tweet for years. Then in June 2021 he changed his mind a bit "It seems to be all about grand slams nowadays and I don't like that". I wonder why...
Quite simply Roger is an artist, Rafa a grinder, and Djokovic nothing but a backboard. My subjective opinion. Roger was the most amazing shotmaker to have ever picked-up a racquet.
@@justicegusting2476 Pity that Fed's backhand would reliably break down along with his weak mind when put under actual pressure. If you want exhibition tennis without the mental chops go watch that funny old Iranian / French guy who plays at Wimbledon and the French Open for the interval entertainment. Mabye Fed will join him for a few staged circus tricks?
@@huzcer what you called pity won 20 grandslam. This is the problem with Djokovic fans, you can’t just simply praise your idol without insulting others
Absolutely razonable answer, winning one more doesn't means he is better than Nadal and Federer!! When the difference becomes about 10... I will agree 100% that he is the best!!!! Right now they are all in the 20ths
This is an old interview, and saying one is better than the other would be disrespectful, while saying he is the best is wrong, even tho he is the best
I mean, Nadal won most of his on one surface, a surface he grew up on and is more difficult for everyone else, on any other surface, Nadal is far from the goat.
Great answer. All had a different journey. As a Fed fan, I respect Nola's achievements. I do believe that the rivalry between the 3 would be quite more interesting if the 3 came in at the same age/year.
@@josephmatt8173and also if Nadal foot injury not force him to change his playing style... After 2013 Nadal signeficantly change his playing style... But old Nadal always treat to watch and diffinly nake chalange djoko and rojar more
@johnkaufman2812 0 seconds ago Sampras raised the bar for the others to chase after… then Federer caught and surpassed that bar in short order.. Nadal & now Novak then caught and surpassed Federer’s achievements. It helps to have something to chase after.. to be the hunter rather than the hunted. They’re all great players.. fantastic and unique in their own ways. Federer’s beauty, Nadal’s strength, and Novak’s combination of both. Long live the 3 Kings.
Great answer from a really great Champion! It is my opinion that tennis has 3 GOAT'S and not just one. Nole is a fantastic Champion, absolutely! 🙌🏼 And i really love his sense of humor. 😂
Please bear in mind that of all the Slams are just 1 on clay and 2 on faster surfaces, so i stick to my opinion if you don't mind..... 😏 A bit of nuance please. 👌🏼
Nadal started his success at 17 years old, and Federer is 6 years older than Djokovic, and declined earlier than him. Djokovic was strongly challenged by earlier Federer (prime Federer?) but Nadal was always his real rival... Federer was a greater ambassador of tennis with his style, but I think Nadal has been the stronger player overall...
It's really not fair for Federer. He had 1 main rival - NADAL. He did everything he could to crack the code, even changing to a larger racket and improving his backhand. 2017 was evidence that Federer had indeed figured Nadal out. Djokovic was a monkey wrench in all of this. Federer must have been like, "Who is this guy??? I don't need another GOAT to contend with. Are you kidding me!?"
Federer didn’t really decline until 2016; until then he was always very consistent in making deep runs at grand slams and mostly lost to other GS champions. It was much harder for Federer to win slams after 30 than it has been for Djokovic because 2011-15 provided the highest level of competition men’s tennis has ever seen. I’m putting Federer above Nadal because he has been far more consistent; Nadal has lost to lesser players (players who have achieved much much less in their careers) much more frequently, even when he was in his prime. From 2003-2016, Federer had only one very bad season (2013) when he only made it to one grand slam SF and crashed after that. Nadal has had quite a few: 2009, 2012 (second half), 2014 (second half), 2015-16. And for Novak it’s even better: from 2011-now he has had only 1 and a half very bad seasons (2017-18).
Are we talking about 2003-2009 federer or 2009 on federer? 2003-2009 federer was the best player of all time. He played at the highest level of anyone in any era including djokovic. When the courts were fast like they were then, nobody could beat him. Once the courts slowed down it favored more defensive players like nadal and djokovic. That is why you see most of federers majors were during that 2003-2009 stretch.
Real classy of Nadal to be the first to congratulate Djokovic on winning his 23rd grand slam. However, there's been no reaction from Federer to date. Doesn't reflect well on his character. He couldn't possibly be all that busy. A tinge of jealousy, perhaps?
I don't think they really like each other. Djokovic's father might have a big mouth, but I think he's right. It was Fed who disliked Novak at the start.
But when the history books write their stories... It will be the number of grand slam titles that will be mentioned (who has the most) - everything else will just be superfluous. Yes they are all great champions but only one can sit at the top of the pile! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The difference between Novak and the rest of the players is his intellect and his ferocity! He’s a Serbian son and as such he has inherited ferocity and intellect from his ancestors who were fighting bravely different enemies to preserve their freedom since 14t century to present. As a child he witnessed the aggression on his country and no doubt that helped mold him in to what he’s today, a great champion, the greatest of all! He’s a Serbian National Tresor! May he be blessed!
I think we as fans have been incredibly lucky to have these 3. They're shared the accolades between them for so long; few other players managed to win a GS while these 3 were competing. I often look at the list of grand slam winners, and this period of time is unlike any other in the history of the sport. 66 GS's between 3 people in the same era has never happened before.
@f5anabolicI agree with that, then again Novak's stats are more impressive for me because tennis is not a team sport so trophies reflect performance better
With Messi goat debate there is still the argument of Pelé and his 3 World Cup victories. With Novak there is no more arguments against him, unless Nadal somehow makes a comeback, but highely unlikely with his injuries and age.
@@GhostruckerX but even with Fed nearing retirement and Nadal still at a prime age, Fed won most of their last matches. whe Fed was 27-32, no one between the ages of 31-37 was beating him much at all. if Fed would have changed his tactics sooner, he wold have beaten Nadal more times than not throughout his career.
Novak is a most impressive player. I have enjoyed watching the trio in their quest for greatness, each in his own style and all three as great as one can expect. Lately I have to elevate Novak to a top level as a human with values and principles to stand against the most absurd and evil Covid vaccine pushed by malignant so called scientists and big pharma, to a point that he was comfortable with not playing again if that was the case. A lesson to all of what it means to have values and principles for a meaningful life. My admiration to Novak and hope I can keep enjoying watching him play.
See how the reporter questions the big 3 and brought the new gen as biggest rival. Big 3 are retiring and will be retired as age. Not necessarily because because the new gen are better. The quality of tennis will go down after the big 3.
The sport of tennis has evolved into an international sport, thanks to the rivalry of the Big Three, and it is rooted in a long historical tradition that has yet to be identified with the Byzantine Empire where the royalty played the game in the first grass tennis court some 10 centuries or so ago. That said, the sport spread to other European and Russian courts, eventually the British Isles. It never reached such popularity as we have today for reasons that can be explained. In the beginning the sport was looked at as entertainment for the rich and powerful, exclusively for the benefit of the Court. There is a Byzantine title 'Kyr' also given to those who master a profession, vocation, etc. To put everything in perspective, Novak Djokovic deserves to be anoited Kyr Novak.
@@thesoccergod Definately a "master" of something by the indication of his surname. It could also mean 'nobility' of sorts? But that's up to Kyrgios to find out for himself?
@@tommiejohansson962 Of course, just as aviation and technology facilitated it. That's what I'm talking about; the coming of age. That why I used the word "evolved'.
He didn't need to add on a neutral surface. That doesn't make sense. Nadal was so much better than Federer on Clay, you have to take that into account. Federer never beat Nadal one time at Roland Garros. I still think Roger is the goat though, even if Novak may be the better returner and have more slams.
It is always amusing to see how Novak haters claim that Djokovic won most of his GS in a weak era , but do not explain how come only Djokovic was able to " take advantage" of " injured Nadal " in SEVEN(7) consecutive finals starting with the 2011 clay season and ending with the epic 5hrs.53min.2012 AO final, or how he took advantage of " old FEDERER" by beating him in 3 Wimbledon finals, even though Roger had two match points on his serve.
Real tennis fans or tennis fans under 25 years old? Lol the Federer Nadal rivalry recreated the sport and put it back on the map after the Sampras Agassi days died.. there is zero reason to disparage Federer to try to prop up your guy.. they were all great. End of story
Actually what Novak wants to say is what kind of Stupid Question is that. If that's Coach Pop of Spurs asking stupid questions trust me the answer is absolutely brilliant
I've been a loyal fan of Nadal since the first time I watched him beat Federer for the first time as a teenager. But I've learned to admire Djokovic as one of the three best tennis champions of our generation. They pushed each other to become better and should be appreciated for their unique personalities and abilities. It's great that Novak is still competing against the NowGen Sinner and Alcaraz and we should enjoy him while we still can.
To me all Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are all unique legends in their own ways and are very different tennis players as well with their own unique styles and what they do best in each areas of tennis. So to me all these comparisons honestly makes no sense to me. sorry.
Oh noes. I come back to this vid to resume a conversation (not a particularly sensible one, admittedly) and I see that crazy assertions such as Djokovic having a better slice than Federer was too much even for the uploader. Oh well. Off to another vid to pick a new fight.
Novak is right, these three led the golden era of tennis. When they all retire, tennis is gonna suffer. Pretty much like the ladies tennis hasn’t risen to the occasion since the retirement of the Williams sisters
Novak was given a platform to provide his analysis of his rivals’ games. In a recent video, he was reported to have said Murray is better than Nadal. I don’t remember coming across Federer and Nadal doing similar analysis of their rivals. Perhaps, he is getting a head start on his announcing career to rival John McEnroe. Very shrewd business mind.
on wii tennis? Nadal won't be back until 2024, will retire in the same year and MAYBE has a shot at a RG and by then Djokovic will have more than 23 slams in any case. When Djokovic soon enough gets to DOUBLE Nadal's time spent at number 1 it's going to even more clearly underline what's what.
WATCHING THIS......................AGAIN I SERIOUSLY SUGGEST NOVAK SHOULD BE A STATESMAN FOR SERBIA, IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE..........HE CAN BE/IS FAR FAR MORE DIPLOMATIC & CAPABLETHAN MOST OF THE SO CALL BEAN COUNTING PRESIDENTS WHO THINK OF ECONOMY & THE WORD""DEMOCRACY"" ONLY......
Federer has 8 Wimbledons, Djokovic 7. In a few weeks there's Wimbledon 2023 - Djokovic with 8 AND 3 Wimbledon final defeats of Federer would be a hard case to argue against....
In men's tennis, Nadal has the record for most titles in one grandslam - 14 Djokovic has the record for most titles in two grand slams - 7 Federer has the record for most titles in 3 different grandslams - 5 Djokovic has the record for most titles in four grand slams - 3
Federer has won more Grand Slams than Nadal and Djokovic in Wimbledon (8) and US open (5) That’s 2/4 GS surfaces.Hard court & Grass Djokovic (10) in AO Nadal (14) in FO
Hard court has to be the neutral surface and Roger won 7 ATP Finals events where Rafa won ZERO. More than half of Rafa's GS titles came on a speciality surface. Not to say he's a one trick pony, but Fed showed better balance away from Grass than Rafa from clay. I'm sure Nole could have been more decisive in that answer, but he knew better than to pick between his chief rivals and pick a fight with their fans though.
@pashapasovski5860 in your dream.. Federer is definitely the master and smoothest, elegant and stylish tennis player of all time. After Federer, I would definitely choose Nadale or Sampras.. it's not about how many trophies you won, it's about how beautiful your game is. In the same way, LeBron can never compare to Jordan even if he has played longer and won more points than Jordan.
@HMKHABIB1 Actually Because Jordan has the more trophies than LBJ he Is GOAT ,you obviously don't know nothing about the discussion between the fans and the reason why Jordan is the GOAT and Djokovic is the GOAT of retrospective sports! Only one matrix counts and that's championship rings or whatever! On tennis is much easier to determine the GOAT, most victories in masters and Slams, mathematics doesn't lie ,so by a Rolex if you love the advertising so much! Hahaha, imagine a watch company changed its advertising because their representative isn't the GOAT!
Against Nadal he was mostly defending. Against Federer he was doing everything. But these are, without question, the BIG THREE. They're all #1. But like many other pros say: "Federer makes hard things look easy".
In there Minds They believe That RF Is The most completely player In the History . But Normally They Can not say That at all …. That question maybe you Can asking Messi & Ronaldo about Tennis World to Give you a good answer 😊
Reporter: Who do you think is better between Federer and Nadal? Djokovic: When you talk about the Big 3.... we have all pushed each other. Bro felt left out and inserted himself into the answer. Lol.
Federer was the better server and had the better backhand of the three, Nadal's forehand was the best(especially with that top spin that gave Roger fits) and Novak was the better defender.
