What's going on in ReefMan's reef these days? Not too much! The tank has recovered from the copper induced tank crash, and it's time to figure out how we'll be rebuilding. There are a lot of options, I could downsize to a smaller tank - but that would entail getting rid of some of my prized fish like my Achilles Tang - or perhaps I could convert from a reef tank proper to a coral spawning tank. More than likely we'll keep the same tank though, it just needs some tender loving care and some repairs to be back in tip top shape.
My coral has basically recovered, at least the colonies that didn't die. Most of my Montipora survived, while all but one Acropora died. My Favia and Chalices are also fine, and didn't seem to be effected by the copper at all.
I might try running some tests with frags, though I'm not sure exactly what I'd want to test yet. Maybe the effect of direct feeding vs not feeding and just letting the tank's water carry food over would be an interesting thing to test.

The new tank I'm working on also has an algae problem. I prefer that type of problem over pest anemones, vermitted snails, and coral pest.

I agree totally. Algae is easier, and eventually just goes away

Sorry to hear about the loss. I can really relate we lost a tank we had for 15 years last year!!!

That sucks man! Have you tested so that there’s no copper bound up in the rock? From memory some amount can bind to the rock and be released if there’s a PH drop in the future.

I have not, yet this is concerning! Thank you! I’ll do some research as well.

@@ReefMan I’m bit foggy on the details but it might be worth a look. A simple way to test it would be to break of a small pebble, place it in some low ph water for a few days and then test for copper. Now get that awesome tank back to its former glory!

What’s the monti right next to the sunset?
@ReefMan
@ReefMan 2 года назад
I had a Rainbow montipora and also a Superman montipora and they’ve sort of grown together so it could be either.

Hi I don’t know if you can help me but I bought a pair of clowns 1 week ago, added them to quarantine treated for internal parasites and after a couple of days they were eating, doing 10 percent or less water changes every other day and then when I did a larger water change and added 2nd treatment last night, they have stopped eating today... acting normal swimming but look a little scared and stressed, maybe because of the treatment and heavy water change they are stressed? Any ideas?
@ReefMan
@ReefMan 2 года назад
Yea it could be! Give them a day and see if they start eating again. Praziquantel (I assume this is what you’re using) can suppress appetite if I remember. You could also try a new food - maybe frozen brine shrimp or small mysis shrimp? Good luck!

@@ReefMan thankyou, yeah it’s a praziquantel based medication so hopefully that’s all it is, thanks for the reply
@ReefMan
@ReefMan 2 года назад
I have had some fish die in praziquantel - but clownfish are pretty resilient and if your medications are fresh and not expired I would give them a day and maybe offer some more food after several hours or the next day. Just be sure that uneaten food doesn’t pollute the water.

@@ReefMan yeah, I’ve treated other clown with the same medication and it’s been fine, they seem to swim and act more normal when I turn the sponge filter off could this be a sign of anything?
@ReefMan
@ReefMan 2 года назад
Maybe if the tank is very small the sponge filter is too much flow? I would be surprised though..
