Never forget when the ball was stuck upright in the mud

With the exception of the Cardinals/Giants 20-20 tie in 1983, this might be the ugliest game in the history of Monday Night Football. It was glorious. For those wondering what happened in that 20-20 tie, a brief rundown: - Giants QB Jeff Rutledge had a passer rating of 39.2. Cardinals QB Neil Lomax had a passer rating of 30.4. Both of those ratings are worse than if you did nothing but spike the ball into the ground on every single play (39.6) - The teams combined for six turnovers and 20 penalties - Cardinals kicker Neil O'Donoghue missed 3 field goals in overtime alone, including a 20-yarder - Giants coach Bill Parcells said afterwards: "if somebody had to win that game, we might still be playing out there"

My gods, if the Gators didn't name their stadium "The Swamp", you would give that nickname to that field.

Saw the thumbnail and immediately thought, "Isn't that the game where the punt just got stuck in the turf."

I remember living in PA at the time and my dad called it the night before. "They've played 9 games in 3 days on that poor field and it's gonna dump rain tommorrow, it's gonna be a total mess." I bet he wishes he went big on the under betting line with that foresight.

I watched this shitshow live. Truly the lowest of the low points during that season for the Dolphins.

Lol my favorite team is the Steelers and this was the first home game I ever went to. The kick attempts were hilarious

Can't wait for the sequel, Vikings vs. Raiders in week 14 of the 2023-24 NFL Season. No team scored until just under the two minute mark in the fourth quarter. Not as close as this, but still pretty rare and impressive to see both offenses be so incompetent. What is more impressive is that this was under a freaken dome in Vegas and not in a wet field out in Pittsburgh.

Watched this game from start to finish…

That game was some of the most fun I've had at Heinz Field.

This game deserves all the tribute videos. I'm glad you did one. That stuck punt is one of the greatest images the NFL has ever bestowed upon mankind. The sheer confusion as 6 grown men surround a football and stare at it in disbelief and bewilderment. You could do an entire episode on just that punt.

That is EASILY the closest we will ever get to seeing a scoreless tie in the 21st century, especially now with Heinz's improved field and the rules being even more namby-pamby about "protecting the quarterback". This game belongs in a museum.

Such fond memories of this game. It was a Monday night and had school the next morning, so I had to go to bed early like in the second quarter. But I just had to watch, so I snuck out my room and went back to the tv when everyone was asleep and was able to watch the second half. I couldn’t believe it that it was 0-0 so late, I had to watch till the end as I now knew that it was a game I would remember my whole life. Plus being a Steelers fan, I love defensive games. It truly was the greatest game.

This game reminds me of my high school field. I grew up in the rainiest place in the 48 contiguous states and the grass field quickly turned into a mud bowl most weeks especially since the field was built on a flood plain.
