I appreciate all the comments, all I can say is it was a great time and I love my Bronco! Ain’t nothing wrong with a little trail trophy. Andre and his crew were super cool and I had a blast at the Ranch. Side note: was by far the longest road trip I’ve done with my Bronco, it is an awesome road performer as well as a kick-butt off roader!!! Thank you for the Opportunity TFL

Great attitude Lance. But TFL, I’m confused. You brought a Ram HD out there, why didn’t you use it? Start with a tow or winch from that heavy beast first, move to kinetic if that doesn’t work, a little bit more slack each time and stop once he’s out- you don’t need to drag the guy 10 ft out of it- once his rear wheels were out and on solid stop, his lockers will get him the rest of the way out. Jeez man you guys just went straight to the nuclear option. And as I’ve said before when you recovery from a side by side’s hitch- If a metal D ring breaks off someone could get killed. I sure hope that before you attached to that point you know what that attachment on the Polaris is rated for- kinetic ropes multiple the force substantially. You also may have weakened it for future. Attachment points are not always rated for hard recoveries. You know what would be a great TFL video- one where you guys team up with some popular RU-vid offroad recovery channel like Matt’s or something and get instruction on recovery. I think it would be popular for you but more importantly would instruct people on how to do recoveries safely. Because so far the ones I have seen you guys do are not it. And there are a lot of people who watch your vids that do not know that and might go out on a trail and try this and it ends in disaster. I love your vids but please be safe guys.

Okay, definitely some problems here: - in the first half, honestly I'd have been annoyed if someone told me how to drive as much as was going on (tho it got better, amusingly as it got harder) - a kinetic yank for someone suctioned into mud isn't great. This wasn't sitting for ages so it wasn't as bad, but it wasn't the best strategy - use a truck, you brought it for a reason. Use the power to pull it out slowly and in a measured fashion. Get tension before applying wheel speed, and ideally you'll not get the stuck guy spinning wheels unless that's needed, makes it much more violent once it is unstuck - a winch would have made that even easier. Given the difficulty, I think having one on hand is a good plan - I'd not put a metal D ring there if I didn't have to, a soft shackle is a lovely piece of kit to have. Props to the owner for taking it in stride though, I'd be kinda annoyed tbh. It didn't have to go that way. I pinstripe the crap out of my vehicle but that's because I have no choice if I want to keep driving up the mountain, and I generally want to do so. I don't enjoy scratching it up needlessly

I think TFL should have been a lot more careful, and the driver is obviously inexperienced, but if he is a visitor then he likely has seen a few videos and should have had the foresight to ask for a raincheck due to weather. Wow, this was wrong on so many confusing levels. While it is easy to sit in hindsight judgement in front of a computer, take into consideration, I have 35+ years of OR experience, so there is more than just watching and critique going on here. And TFL crew has been in their course more than a dozen times now, it should be almost 2nd nature to what you are doing with people out there. Should not be a struggle. #1. Why in the heck would you consider using that Ram you drove down into that course as a recovery vehicle? It is a press vehicle and you know that course is not kind to street rigs. So error idea 1. Obviously you did not use it, so good correction there. #2. The 2nd recovery vehicle idea. Complete disaster. Why would you use a vehicle that is 100% not designed for recovery at all, but rather going balls to the walls out in dunes??? That was not a Mule/utility Side by Side. It was meant for racing. SMH. It is a small miracle nothing on it was destroyed in the process. (assuming nothing was, for all we know it was not shown on camera) It was also a small miracle it was able to help that Bronco at all because of the weight and gearing differences between the 2. Also in that scenario, since it was clearly WRONG for the job, it could not finesse the recovery, which is exactly what was needed.(almost always is) Instead you gunned it like a thief breaking out of prison. That is a disaster happening and that is what you got. And the victim (showing composure) I am assuming signed a no claims waver so you were not liable for his damages. But still, I would be unhappy at that procedure. Tommy should have been there doing this. The 4 Door Bronco TFL should have been there as the recovery vehicle. #3. At that point might as well have gone all the way to Tommy's demise and finished the course. It is my assumption the victim after that messed up recovery said enough "help" for 1 day. If it had been me, I would have definitely been more hands on with what was going to happen and discussed the procedure and given my input on whether it was a good plan or not. Then at least I would have been partly to blame for the way it was handled. #4. Your last comment about Tommy's demise being only good for heavily modified vehicles, that indicates no other road legal vehicle will be attempting this course now? I am sure that 2 door Bronco could have finished the course had things not gone foul in the muddy recovery pit.

Hey Lance - I’m the guy with the blue Jeep you met the day before. Great to see you and the Bronco getting into the mud! Bet it was even tougher than what we faced after the snow! I’m sure there was little desire to take another shot after the trail damage, but I agree with your attitude. You better do your homework on offroad recovery before someone gets hurt. Using a metal shackle on the sbs without proper recovery point could ended in some injuries. At least use some soft shackles next time. And never start from so much speed and slack on the rope its better to try the recovery 2-3 times with each time more speed more slack instead of what you did and risk in broken recovery point and shackle that goes to a windshield.
@dalejones4322
@dalejones4322 Год назад
I guess in retrospect the recovery should have been done differently. Hopefully lessons were learned and the adage of slow as possible fast as necessary will be brought to recovery. The CLUMSYNESS and AKWARDNESS ANDRE showes in every video is well put into actions here. If a channel called or has the name “offroad” in it THEN, there has to be a minimal level of knowledge about every aspect of offroading including recovering stuck vehicles. Their guest can have any level of knowledge it doesent matter , he is hosted by “professionnals” so the damages he sustained are 100% not his but ANDRe’s lack of thinking and irresponsability. Plus they are making $$$ off of this video in wich they used somebody else to provide content. His lack of 1. Respect for the guy and his bronco 2. Irresponsability 3. Cringe... Some experienced drivers here in the comments have already pointed out all of the bad choices in the recovery. My issue is with the video editor; the Polaris (incorrect recovery vehicle) getting its own cutaway, Nathan coaching bad recovery habits??? Very difficult to watch. best thing would have been a voiceover with some "lessons learned" and a heart felt apology to lance.

TFL should pay for this damage in full. This is bullshit! I would have been so pissed! They don't know what they are doing, and this guy clearly does not have much off-roading experience. If TFL is going to have people drive their own personal vehicles through this course they built, they should at least educate themselves on proper recovery methods, so that they can in turn educate the inexperienced.

This video really bothers me! Andre- you seemed really on edge with Lance, like you didn’t trust his driving. And then his Bronco gets jacked up due to your towing, and you laugh about it? Kudos to Lance for taking it so easily, but there is certainly a sense of broken trust- Lance got screwed bringing his rig on your channel- at least offer to pay for his repairs. Not cool!!!

Should really have a support vehicle with a winch to pull people out of the mud. The slow tension and the control breaking the suction is better then hitting hard with a kinetic rope and and having a greater risk of breaking a person vehicle or pulling them into a tree. We all know tfl can afford a some crapbox 4x4 that has a winch on it.

As soon as they started hooking up the kinetic rope I thought to myself oh you’re not supposed to use a kinetic rope when the stuck vehicle is in deep mud… and then bam, he got pulled into a tree lol. They should have told Lance to turn his tires driver so when they pulled him out, his bronco would’ve gone away from that tree/brush. And the recovery vehicle definitely should’ve tried a small bump on the rope first before giving it heck. Use as little force as necessary. I do feel bad for Lance. That’s going to be a good chunk on money to get that fixed. He did roll with it quite well though. Hopefully TFL offers to help Lance with the bill for the damage since the damage occurred during a not so well planned/executed recovery.

I’ve never seen them recover a press vehicle like that before yet they thought this was a good idea? I work in digital media and content creation. I understand the struggle of creating fresh content constantly. People volunteering their rigs is the backbone of their content and how they make money. When I say they should make it right i mean it in the sense that it would be an unwise business decision to not do so as it will discourage others to lend them their vehicles.

A kinetic rope attached to a side by side is not a good choice for a nonsensical extraction in a made for YOU TUBE video by a bunch of clowns. As one responder pointed out, if that attachment point on the little Polaris had broken during high stress and that “D” ring gone flying through the Bronco things could have gotten a lot worse then the scratched door and broken mirror.

The guy driving is super nice and a good sport. Both the driver of the side by side and the bronco driver was to blame. Bronco driver could have easily overpowered the inertia with his brakes the second he got close to the tree. The side by side was already stopped. However bronco driver kept giving it gas, backing into the tree. The whole situation happened too quick and was not planned out.

The problem with soft shackles is that a lot of tow points on vehicle’s are not smooth enough to safely use a soft shackle. That being said there is no way a kinetic rope is stronger then a D ring Shackle. As long as the tow points themselves are strong enough it’s a non issue.
