NT Greek: How to use technology to make learning Greek easier.

Imagine trying to learn all ~5,300 words of the Greek New Testament using paper flashcards.
While writing out your own physical flashcards can be great (because it involves your senses and muscle memory), it's really difficult to scale. Sure, it works for the first few hundred words, but how would you do it when you have 1000 words to memorise?
There are ways to do this and remain technology-free, I'm sure, but they cost a lot of extra brain power and added inconvenience when compared to some of the solutions on the market today.
These time saving innovations are what I'll be sharing with you today!

Today's technology is amazing! Even when compared to what was available to me in the very early 21st century it's a wonder that everyone does not know Greek. When I think of how I struggled with dozens of paradigms I am jealous of today's learning tools. More power to technology. Let's see where it leads. MikeInMinnesota

I’m with you there. With all the helps, it is amazing more people aren’t learning Greek! Maybe the new technology is the key to growing numbers of believers learning Greek!

I've been using Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar (Mounce) text book and his website videos through my seminary course. But I find him dry, beyond belief (sorry Bill!!). Languages don't come naturally to me and it drives me insane when he says, 'you'll just have to learn that!' (Plus I use a Greek paper dictionary and have made loads of flashcards - there is still something helpful in having something physical in my fingers!!!!) So I've been adding to my learning in lots of extra ways. The ones I've found most useful (in no particular order): 1. Blue Letter Bible (free app and website) - still a 'go to' resource as a concordance generally, but if you click on verses it shows the translation bit by bit and clicking on the individual words brings up dictionary features or parsing information depending on where you click. This mostly is based on Strong's and therefore the King James, but you can choose your translation! 2. Ginoskos (free app and website but you can pay to get additional features) is especially good for flashcards but also has a host of other resources. You can create your own flashcards on the website which then are visible in the app. Covers all three biblical languages. The way the flashcards is set up means you choose which words to learn, it introduces them a few at a time and regularly asks you to review them! Possibly my favourite from the list. 3. Daily Dose of Greek (free app and website) is great for seeing Plummer parse and translate one verse each day. The website also has a selection of videos of Plummer going through his course, and some songs/rhymes for learning some of the paradigms - these have been really helpful as Plummer is somewhat more dynamic the Mounce! 4. YouVersion (free app) - I've found a biblical Greek version being read by a Koine/modern reader as a different way to absorb Greek. 5. KoineGreek.com again allows you to listen to sections of scripture, but be warned they read quickly! 6. KataBiblon.com is a basic dictionary which you can type in using English or Greek, the glosses are not the best, however when I'm completely stuck on parsing a word I use this as it will offer me options which I can look up in a traditional dictionary! 7. I bought the audiobook Sing and Learn New Testament Greek by Kenneth Berding which runs through a few of the most important paradigms through song. I've not used this enough yet! 8. Alpha with Angela (RU-vid channel) goes through Greek in the way children would learn, an oral method. It takes some getting used to, especially if you've been working through grammar books as the order of information learning is very different. It can be a little patronising but that possibly helps with the learning! Less helpful if you are prioritising high frequency words as Mounce does! 9. I've set up Greek (and Hebrew) fonts on my phone and computer so I can ask my friends questions as I'm learning, discuss meaning and understanding. The phone doesn't seem to have all the accents available, possibly just my phone and because it's offering modern Greek which uses the same characters, but it gets much of the message across! 10. I've created some paradigm charts with plenty of colour on it and have it close to hand as I work. The colour blocks are helpful for the visual memory learning. I've been repeatedly told to try mind palace type techniques for learning vocabulary but my brain isn't visual enough to remember the journeys, words or stories! But worth trying if you have a good imagination and visual memory! I have been enjoying your videos Darryl for seeing which resources you recommend - but they don't make my top ten as they haven't changed my Greek yet!!!

I bought a CD ROM years ago (I forget who produced it), but my computer broke a few months later and I hadn't made much progress with it. It isn't compatible with my new computer, so I can't use it now. Ah, technology! :) I've been doing Greek old school ever since, but when I'm ready to commit I plan to give your program a closer look. Blessings!

I've beem learning hebrew but I understand that learning Greek is just as important as well as a bit of Aramaic as its all used in Scripture.I just have a few books and constantly looking on line for teachings.im curious to see other comments on how others do it as well. I do know enough now that I can see when alot of others who preach scripture that don't know what There preaching, who claim they do.it seems most just trust on another man who does a good job at motivational speaking.

There would be a coupon code for vocabulary pack for a Brazilian where the dollar is almost six times the value of the Brazilian currency?😄

Can multiple people use the same app with different IDs on the same/different devices or does each user have to purchase a separate app for each device? I have three current Greek learners in our house with a fourth right behind them.

It depends on the app and the platform. Apple allows you to share app purchases amongst family members. Other apps require individual email logins.
