Well, the gratifying thing is that it's come back to bite the BBC in the arse big time. @@CLaw-tb5gg The real problem in a situation like this isn't that people are turning a blind eye to it, but you have to know actual specifics and have a witness willing to go forward. Even Lydon never directly said what he knew in the banned BBC Radio interview. I saw the Netflix documentary, and the most disturbing part on this front was that there was a point where there were three witnesses willing to talk to police, but the police never told them that others existed, and none was willing to testify for fear of being the only one.

The BBC did investigate, even called in the Police who found no evidence to prosecute, or even to carry on investigating. There were rumours, but would you be okay if your employer fired you over a rumour? As for the BBC why not criticise the NHS? It's turned out far more went on there, and the NHS gave Savile a flat within hospital grounds, keys to all areas and 24 hour access. There were plenty of rumours within the NHS, but they didn't do anything either. So why single out the BBC?

True, it just goes to show how much you get away with when so many people suspected and even knew, but few talked about it openly. But I still think the upper levels of the BBC were guilty of blocking their ears to even the quietest of whispers - lest their star fall from grace.
