I opened Salinas Valley 4 months before the inmates got there 1996 . I went to B-yard and We had this guy Garcia From Salas running my building and about 4 Northerns with Mongolians came off the bus. So I talked to him made sure they didn’t start nothing! I left that yard and those dudes started hitting the older northerners. That was structure, I believe! Back then 18st had a green light on them and didn’t know nothing about Nazi lowriders until they hit the blacks in High Dessert and the blacks retaliate a Salinas Valley!

I was with the Flores in Jamestown level 3 in 2006-2007 until they flipped the yard. they were firme and respectful. we had no issues with them. they only rushed other Norteños that came from certain prisons. Question for Josh: Did the State Faction as far as you know ever reach out to the Nuevo Flores? Either try to bring them back into the fold since the State Faction could be viewed as a new administration as oppose to the same group they rebelled against.

In a nutshell, Nueva Flor was begun by dropouts and rejects from the NF. Not saying those guys were PCS or trash, but they did originate from trash yards and SNY. In late 98-9, high desert d yard units 5 through 6 were known as a trash yard. I was on c yard during the same time. But my point is, these guys created Flor under SNY conditions and when they paroled they promoted it on the streets. When the new generations of recruits began to enter the GP Prison system they had no clue about the origins of their own click being known as forming alongside 25, IR, GL, etc., BUT EVERYBODY ELSE DID! Embarrassing that must be for any of these kids claiming that crap.

NVR been locked up in CA but in Rikers if you were a Bood ,Crip, Neta or AMLKQ you were allowed to get off on the first person if you couldn't be in that dorm. And it wasn't a matter of fear it was told to me it was a matter of self protection & being smart. Cus say it's just you & 20 enimigas & there was little no staff or cameras it was easy to find you dead or worse. So when we were moved we knew where we could function & if you had to bounce you pulled out that razor, shank, or just bomb on the first person, usually they were enemy gang members. And they new too so they would try to get off on us before the cuffs were even off. NVR made it up or downstate but spent the majority of my youth in YA facilities on Rikers, camp, group homes, & Spofford but that was then and no i live a different & great life! & So can u!

The core concern for any human being that is incarcerated can only be to survive. Different people will go about that different ways. What I always found interesting was the rapidity under which many would feel the unwavering desire to need to re identify themselves. Often times I would see one who presented themselves as a Soldier / Soldado in times of peace & tranquility. These same men would suddenly find a change in their hearts when it was apparent battle , war or conflict were on the horizon. Suddenly we would not see them at unlock. A celly would report they went to medical and just never returned. Battle is a funny thing. There are many variables and outcomes possible. One is foolish not to prepare & train. One is equally foolish to think he can control every situation. I remember my first ride across the bridge to RC and intake. I rode with another who had been inside the walls previously and he was reassuring me that I was more than prepared to meet any challenges that we would face. Years later on another case I sat in my counties main jail trying to prepare another youngster for his first ride across the bridge to RC. I assured him his size, case type, commitment and sentence were all things that would allow him to land safely in RC. Told him he had nothing to worry about. You touchdown, you report, you fall in line. I was pretty sure he would be ok. The guy never even made it out of R & R without locking it up. Sometimes the fear of the unknown is too great.
