I just had a 8.3cm lipoma removed from right side of neck and a Hemi Thyroidectomy because I had 2 nodules equal to 5.3cm. I had it done December 2nd and have numbness on my neck and jawline. I was concerned until I saw this video. My ENT says he wasn't to concerned that feeling won't come back. This video assured me that after surgery numbness is normal. I sleep better after surgery so I'm glad I did it. Just waiting on the healing process now. Thanks again 💥💥💥

Thank you for you message. I am 43 & have had Seizures since I was 6 years old. I was having around 30 a month and i had a Brain Resection where the Dr cut the piece of brain out that was causing my Seizures. On Feb 16th 2024 & i haven't had a seizure since. But my left side is having numbness. My Dr told me that it will go away just give it time. I do physically therapy everyday for it. But your video helped me to just keep in mind i just need to be patient. So Thank you Again.

Eight weeks ago I went down on a commuter scooter and landed squarely on my left shoulder breaking my clavicle. I went through ORIF surgery a week later and ever since I have a softball size patch of numbness that has caused onset depression and a ton of regret. Had I known about MIPO surgery or given the option of closed reduction nailing I would have at a minimum asked about alternatives instead now finding out the hard way that a solid 50% majority of people (stastically) do not recover 100% from the hyposthesia when clavicular nerve branches are sacrificed in surgery. Still, I will remain hopeful.

I will give my experience, I had scoliosis surgery 33 years ago at age 18, there was a lot of numbness in my back, I would say most of it cam back in ther first 1-2 years, but a lot came back over many years to come, I mean now at 33 years I think I have more sensation than I did 10 years ago. So never underestimate. those nerves, but you don't want to give false hope either, and maybe my operation was different than many other types of surgery, put also just telling my experience, and to not give up hope.

I'm destroyed by how calmly Mr Sivrich says "it's probably not coming back". I'm 1-month post-op after a clavicle fracture, for which I had 2 surgeries in a week, and utterly scared of this numbness might be here to stay. Is there anything I can do to avoid that fate or can a neurological prosedure not fix the issue should the hypoesthesia remain after the 1 and a half year mark?
@nsivrich
@nsivrich 6 лет назад
*click* thank you for watching. I am by no means a neurological expert. I simply give advice on my experience and knowledge. In my experience after a year maybe 2 what feeling you have is what you have. Nerves regenerate very slowly. And sometimes the damage is too severe to overcome.

The numbness of my front shoulder is the bottleneck for training my shoulders right now. I've had a clavicular fracture, bone was completly broken through right in the middle. For some reason, maybe because they had to move the bone pieces together, my shoulder is pretty darn weak now. I have the same problem with the upper chest, wich is reasonable because of the location of the fracture and surgery.

I had an osteochondroma surgery removal recently, under the knee cap to the far right side. when i tried to touch the area near the incision, it was exactly similar to the effect of anesthesia when it kicks in, and it felt like i am not touching my skin directly and as if it is covered in something, like multiple layers, or as if the nerves are so far deep. @nicksivrichpt. Hi Nick. Thanks for the video. I had microdiscectomy on L5S1 a little over 3 months ago. Still feel pain of various degree in both legs (before the surgery only in the right leg). Also, numbness around calf and toes area. Had another MRI done a week ago that shows no reherniation but still an inflamed nerve. Do you think if I don’t reherniate then eventually pain in my legs should disappear, right? I mean, there is no reason for it to persist? I did some OT, now doing stretching and core strengthening on my own. Will appreciate your feedback.
@nsivrich
@nsivrich 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching and your comments! 3 months is still early, but it depends on how long the nerve was compressed. If it was chronic then it could take a while to heal. Over 1 year possibly. If the MRI shows inflammation I would say it could take a while. Keep up with the exercise!

@@petyaklipo7331 you have to give it time. What I suggest is that you continue to move. Don't just sit around when you are in pain. Move move move! Motion is lotion. Work on your entire body. I had back laser surgery (PLDD) for my L4-L5 relatively small lateral disc buldge. 17 days out and still having much leg pain when walking and 10% of my old back pain. My surgeon caught Covid19 so i talked to another one who says that i might be iritation of the nerves from other discs but they are not for surgery whatsoever. My first thought would have been nerve damage. Are this point the nerve would have been healed by now. It may have nothing to do with his knee and may be coming from his back. Has he had his back checked out? He may have a nerve being irritated in his back during certain activities.

I understand marijuana is a schedule 1 drug and not allowed in all states. That said, here in Illinois it's legal. Medical gummies really help you with sleep. Furthermore, I used to smoke dabs everyday before surgery and quit per the surgeon's rules to 'stop smoking.' However since my surgery on October 19th, 2023 my nerves have been healing quite well, especially when ingesting magnesium. In addition, coughing could reherniate your affected disc. But, when dabbing properly without coughing, it really does feel excellent-I certainly felt LESS inflammation and really feel the affected nerves in my left foot waking up and feeling more normal. For any consumers of marijuana I'd wait for a few weeks to get the healing started and continually walk everyday. Just wanted to mention when dabbing after weeks, you can really feel your foot and less numbness. I wouldn't advise anything that will make you cough, so take smaller hits. Personally I have epilepsy so it really helps with sleep and allowing you to feel better.

Hi nick, I recently just had acl surgery and I've had persisting shin and foot numbness for 5 days now. The doctor told me that the numbing feeling should've went away in 1-3 days but it hasn't. I can move my foot, but there is no sensation except for pins and intense heat. Both my foot, shin, and thigh are very swollen currently. At the same time, there is numbness around my injection site, near my groin area. My right ballsack also seems to be kind of inflamed and numb. On my left leg, there is a long strip spaning form around the bottom inner side of my shin, to the inner calf to around my inner upper thigh. However, most of my left leg works fine and my foot and toes all have feeling without pins and needles. I was wondering what the issue was for this, since the only injections they made for the nerve bloc was the femoral nerve block to prevent movement and another inecjtion I believe to prevent sensation. Should I be concerned about this? Is the pins and needle feeling on my right foot due to the heavy inflammation? Thank you!

Hi Nick, I'm 40 y/o male who had l5-s1 microdiscectomy couple of days ago. The reason I did the surgery was numbness, tingling and shooting pain in the sole of my right foot. Thanks for your thoughts...I had emergency appendix surgery (it was perforated but did not fully rupture). I was in the hospital for 5 days and on the third day realized part of my right leg was numb. The cause seems to be sciatica from being in the bed for so long. However, about 3 weeks after that a small section of my left upper arm went numb (I was also experiencing sharp nerve pain in that same spot for a while when moving the arm in a certain spot). My right upper arm developed a very small area of numbness about 10 days after that and the latest issue is a very minor burning feeling in my feet, especially when sitting. I cannot get into the neurologist for over 2 months and I am starting to think it might be post surgical neuropathy. I had a ganglion cyst removal surgery on top on my left foot, and am 9 days post op. Skin on my foot is numb, but under my foot is perfect. Just on my foot top skin and toes skin is numb. Please when is it possible for me to get a relieve 🥴

That area can be numb for up to 18 months. Most of if not all of that feeling will come back. Give it time.

Just had jaw surgery (3 weeks post op) everything below my eyes are pretty numb or tingly. Is there anything I can do between now and a year from today to help ensure I get the maximum return of my feeling back?

Thanks for the comment! At this point no. You will have to let things heal. I use a year as a guideline. It could start to come back in a few more months. Now you have to let your body heal.

Thank you for watching and for the comment. Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with hair transplant surgery. I would say that by the 1.5 - 2 year mark is what you will have. I would talk to the surgeon who did your surgery. Take care!

Without properly evaluating you I would not feel comfortable giving you an answer. Numbness comes from nerves being compromised or compressed. Also damage to them can cause numbness.

Hello Mr. Sivrich. My brother-in-law's spinal surgery was done two years back. Physiotherapy is still going on, though we see a little bit of improvement but he is still unable to walk and he is in very severe pain. Is there a scope of complete recovery or he is gonna be like this always. Please suggest ?
@nsivrich
@nsivrich Год назад
It is very hard to say if this is what it is. He can always see another surgeon to get another opinion. Without knowing the severity of how he was prior to surgery it's hard to say. Also, the type os surgery he had? Was it a trauma? Did he have a fusion? How long did he deal with it before he had surgery?

Hi I had a disc hysterectomy 2 weeks ago l4 l5 s1 bulging on the right side I hade sharp shooting pain in my abdominal wall prior to surgery and after the surgery I still have the same pain and my abdomen is numb is this normal
@nsivrich
@nsivrich 2 года назад
I would not say your symptoms post discectomy are normal, but nerves can be tricky. If they are compressed even for a short amount of time they can take a long time to heal. It's still early in your healing process. I would monitor these symptoms and continue to talk to your surgeon about it.

my wife had a c section 1 and half months ago.from knee to lower foot there is so much weakness and numbness that she can't move frequently.it was a spinal block surgery.whats the way to gain back the strength of legs?
@nsivrich
@nsivrich 5 лет назад
Thank you for watching and for your question! Is it in both legs? Have you discussed this with the gynecologist? I would strongly recommend seeing a physical therapist that is a specialist in women's health. Besides the weakness in the lower legs she would benefit from pelvic floor strengthening as well.

Had surgery for removal of ectopic pregnancy. Cut was made in the lowest part of my belly. Now 15 days past surgery. I have numbness and pain around the numb area which is my lower belly above the cut. Is this normal. ? How long it might take to recover ? Should i do any mild massage over this area ?
@nsivrich
@nsivrich 3 года назад
The numbness is normal due to cutting through sensory nerves. Could take over a year for full feeling to come back. Once the incision is healed you can do a massage over it .

This is not my area of expertise with the type of symptoms you are having. I would talk to your surgeon about your concerns. What I can say as I do in this video is that nerves can take up to 2 years to heal. They are the slowing healing tissue in the body.

When nerves regenerate they can cause an increased sensation in that area. It is normal and will go away.

@@nsivrich thank you so much. I had arm surgery and my surgeon said my ulnar nerve got bruised. I was completely numb from inner elbow to wrist. I’m 4 month post op and numbness is about 60 percent better but lots of strange sensations even painful sometimes and I hate how things rub against the area. Luckily my hand wasn’t effected. Just sensory. Think PT could help?
