Extreme have released yet another single for their latest album "Six". This song is called "The Mask" and it features not only Gary Cherone on vocals, but Nuno Bettencourt is singing on it too! What do you think? Do you like it as much or maybe more than the previous singles? Tell me.

Go find Nuno's solo stuff. He has an amazing voice! After he left Extreme, he went 'straight up' grunge, and he was amazing!!!

Justin, in case you haven't heard Nuno singing before he's made 5 solo/project albums where he sings lead vocals: Schizophonic - his first solo album, absolute masterpiece, some incredible songs. Mourning Widows & Furnished Souls for Rent - The two Mourning Widows albums are more straight ahead driving rock. Population 1 - more of a band endeavour, and out of nowehere Nuno suddenly has this wide, emotional, breath vibrato. Some fantastic songs, and one of my favourite albums. Drama Gods - OK, but not as good as previous releases. I would recommend Schizo and the Population-1 album (the EP is good too) if you want to hear more of Nuno singing, and some awesome songs.

Love Schizophonic - I think he plays most of the instruments too, with Anthony Resta

'Furnished souls for rent' by Mourning widows ? ..'Schizo population one' ?.....I think he was being a bit cynical there with his titles. He should send them to the READERS DIGEST. They have a page for people like him 🤔

I absolutely hated _Schizophonic_ when I first heard it. It was the 90's, and I was expecting a solo guitar album like _Passion and Warfare._ But the more I listened to it, the more I loved the songs. It was a process of growth and appreciation, and there's something very special about experiencing an album that way. Some records reach out and grab you. Others extend a hand, but require you to reach out for them.
@walterevans2118
@walterevans2118 9 месяцев назад
@@thealrightestguitarist9135 yes, Passion and Warfare was very much a guitar aficionado’s album with more emphasis on experiments with sounds than with SONGS but to be fair to Steve Vai he did write some great pieces of music which stood on their own as just beautiful compositions irrespective of ‘the guitar hero press’….Yes. Being moved by songs is very important.

@TheSquidgal

I think they got caught up during the transition between the 80s neo-glam bands and grunge. There was a lot going on at that time, and Extreme never neatly fit in with any "sound." Throw in the confusion and dismissal of the band by many because of their megasucces with More Than Words, and I believe they were overlooked. If I recall properly, Alice in Chains opened for Extreme on one of the first tours they did to support Facelift so that puts them squarely in the middle of that transition. I think that there are so few rock bands that are big and drawing audiences comparatively these days, that it really makes them stand out. I also think that Nuno has really got his fingers on the pulse of how social media can now be used to promote a band and has executed the roll out of this album flawlessly. It has been fascinating to watch this play out. I am so glad they finally are getting the recognition they deserved all along.

@@TheSquidgal "More Than Words" is the reason I was so happy and surprised with this album. You are so right about Nuno and his social media skills. I hadn't considered that point at all. After seeing their videos and then purchasing the Six cd (yes, CD), I knew it was imperative to see them live. I did just that a few weeks ago, saw them perform in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the Paramount Theatre with Living Colour as the opening act. Extreme opened with "#Rebel" and encored with "Rise". Absolutely rocked the house! Gary is easily one of the most energetic frontmen in rock today and Nuno conducted a masterclass in electric solo, acoustic guitar, and rock vocals. One of the best concerts I have seen in years and years! It was a statement to the effect of "Rock Aint DEAD"!

Extreme were always one of those bands just shy of greatness, to me. All stellar musicians, great singer...but they were always hit or miss with the actual songs. I'd usually find one, maybe two songs I liked each album. But this new record, they put their all into it! The songs are there. They're all playing next level compared to their past. They seem more energized and inspired.

I'm a massive Nuno fan from way back. But I feel the new album has neglected the funk aspect, and instead gone for the straight four on the floor rock... People are raving about Nuno's soloing but he's always been amazing technically ...so that's really old news. There is a lot more talk about the guitar playing than there is about the music of this new album, which no me is indicative of the fact that musically there's not that much going on. Definately a step down from the previous albums. I would have thought after such a long break there could have been something better released from such a great band ...
@harryosullivan9632

Absolutely this. I'm a huge fan (and have an N4), but the songs on this album just don't hold a candle to the earlier work. The solos are outstanding, but you're right, they always were. Rise is a strong song, but in comparison to Get the Funk Out, Lil' Jack Horny, Rest in Peace? No. There seem to be a bunch of co-writers in the credits. That's a shame, just let Nuno do it, he's really very good at it.
